Vaqueros & Vigilance by Bailey Bradford

What starts out as a one-night stand ends up changing two men forever.

Joaquin Almodovar has been disowned by his family and shot by a mad man. To say that he’s had a few bad months would be an understatement. When he finds out he can’t be the vaquero he’s always been due to the extent of his injuries, Joaquin is even more lost than ever.

He might be the best-lookin’ man at the Mossy Glenn, according to Hector and the others, but that doesn’t make Joaquin a man at all. Not when he can’t cowboy up like he used to. Learning that there’s more to him than the job he’s always loved isn’t easy, and Joaquin’s not a hundred percent certain he’s up to the task. In fact, he’s lost so much faith in himself that he doesn’t know what or who to believe in anymore.

Time heals all wounds, the saying goes, but it sure doesn’t seem to be doing much to heal Joaquin. It’ll take the help of a man he shouldn’t trust to learn that there’s more to himself than how well he sits a saddle, and how good he is with a rope.

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to domestic abuse and child abuse, and the backstory involves kidnapping and enslavement.

Erica☆☆☆☆
Bailey Bradford is a new-to-me author, so I jumped at the chance to read and review, not realizing Vaqueros & Vigilance was book #8 in a long-standing series. Warning: I'd suggest not reading this as a standalone. While books in a series where each book is narrated by different characters, only having a common thread by the same cast of characters, can be read as a standalone, this series was most definitely NOT written that way. Not a positive or negative, just my fault for not researching prior to saying yes to review. So allow my mistake to help those who mistakenly pick a book in this series out of order. Start at book one.

FYI: I actually love an involved series, where many threads connect each book, which is why I will be reading book #1 and working my way to #8.

With that being said, I was confused around all of the backstory, but was still able to become fully invested in the storyline. Vaqueros & Vigilance is perfect for a few hours of escapism, with its warm and fuzzy sweetness, the savoriness of a darker thread of storyline, and the spiciness of scene after scene of scorching hotness.

I'm a serious reader, more into storyline than romance, so I will state that the book was definitely more romancy and sweet than I'm usually accustomed to reading. The attraction, affection, and connection between the two characters was almost instantaneous. But then again, I have no knowledge of what happened in books 1 – 7, so that may not be reality for readers who read the series in order.

I'm also not one who reads a lot of erotic level romance, but there was enough story to keep me fully engrossed. In fact, the confusion and the need to know who and what of the series had me marking off time to start the series from the beginning, which I'm highly looking forward to in the near future.

As you can see, I'm having a hard time reviewing this title, as I feel like I don't know enough to lead readers in any direction. So, if you'd love to read about a smoking hot cowboy with an innocent abuse survivor, have heat pooling in your belly, and want the warm and fuzzy 'feels', then this is the book for you.

Genre: MM Romance | Cowboys | heat level: erotic |

This is a series which needs reading in order – whilst it mostly deals with different pairings each time, the storylines definitely build on through the series. The story of Seb is most definitely started in the previous book, so at least go that far back. It will make the experience all the richer.

The guys benefit from living in a supportive community, but that doesn't mean that the ways they have been treated in the past don't affect their thoughts now. This book’s duo has possibly suffered more than most – even if for different reasons. Can they allow their chemistry (oh and how genuine and hot that is) to overcome their fears and future uncertainties? Well, get your copy and find out.

Another very enjoyable story, thank you Ms. Bradford!

A native Texan, Bailey spends her days spinning stories around in her head, which has contributed to more than one incident of tripping over her own feet. Evenings are reserved for pounding away at the keyboard, as are early morning hours. Sleep? Doesn't happen much. Writing is too much fun, and there are too many characters bouncing about, tapping on Bailey's brain demanding to be let out.

Caffeine and chocolate are permanent fixtures in Bailey's office and are never far from hand at any given time. Removing either of those necessities from Bailey's presence can result in what is known as A Very, Very Scary Bailey and is not advised under any circumstances.
