Autumn was in love with her brother's best friend. He was her first at many things, even the first to break her heart. When the company she works for sends her to help Julian with his image, she knows that there is more on the line than just the promotion they are offering her.

Julian seems to be the ultimate playboy, alpha a-hole. When Autumn walks into his conference room, he cannot believe his eyes. The girl of his dreams has returned but is now the woman before him. Now all he wants to do is claim what he has always wanted.

As Autumn tries to do her job, Julian wants to rekindle what they had. Will Autumn give in to what she is feeling? Will Julian end up hurting her as he did 10 years ago?

I really liked this story, but I didn't feel that it had the angst as M. Robinson's other stories. There were times I wanted to slap Julian on the back of the head and tell him to wake up and stop messing up. There were parts of this story that were perfect and others I didn't like, but in the end, it was a good story. And with that said, I cannot wait for the next book, I need to know what is going on with Autumn's brother.

Shannan☆☆☆☆
Alpha CEO is a stand-alone, second-chance, angsty romance read.

Autumn was in love with her brother's best friend, Julian, for as long as she could remember. Julian was Autumn's first love and first heartbreak when he just vanished out of her life ten years ago. In those ten years, Autumn has become one of the top publicists in the country. After her name was made working with an out-of-control band, she is the most sought after publicist. When Julian Locke's multi-billion-dollar company is about to go from private to public, the people around him know he needs to change the public's opinion of him, and they hire Autumn. Autumn takes the job knowing this will make her career, but not knowing how her heart will fare.

Julian walked away from Autumn knowing he was making the only decision he could. Making her hate him was the only way he could let her go. Now he's known as the Alpha CEO, putting business above all else. When they are thrown back together, all of those feelings come back. The man Autumn knew isn't the same one standing in front of her now. Can Julian and Autumn pick up where they left off?

The angst is high with this read. There is so much history between them and a ton of baggage that needs to be unpacked. The chemistry is unmatched. I flew through the pages wanting to see what would happen.

I can't wait for what's next with Christian and Kenley!!

Shannan☆☆☆☆☆
All in With Him is the third installment in the Men of Summer series. I recommend reading them in the order in which the author intended. The buildup throughout this series is amazing.

Grant and Declan have finally worked through what has kept them apart, they are living together in the same city and playing ball for their respective teams. But doubt is still creeping into Grant's thoughts. It's too perfect, they are working too well, and Grant is still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I loved watching them work together and making what they have go the distance. AND THE EPILOGUE!!! I was so invested in these characters. Lauren Blakely wrote an amazing sports read. It is definitely a favorite and I highly recommend!

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in this really delicious series – and I highly recommend that you read them in order, as it is very much an ongoing story. I am assuming that you are up to date in my review.

After the last book, when, finally, Grant and Declan are in the same city and have no conflict of being teammates... five years (!!) after they first fell in love but parted. They have both made their own lives, but never really forgotten that they were each other's 'one that got away.'

Of course things are not all smooth sailing, but this is the reward book for the faithful reader. It is very engaging watching them smooth out the differences between them. The compromises each is prepared to make, the self-learning that Dec has gained thanks to being in therapy. I loved every bit of it.

A very satisfying trilogy – which I have added to my must-reread-all-in-one-go list. Thank you, Lauren Blakely, for a passionate, intense, and very enjoyable read.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
Too often authors give us a happy ending for a couple but we don’t see what happens next. All in With Him gives us the story of Declan and Grant after they have gotten together. We get to see what happens next. I loved seeing how they cope with being together and managing their baseball careers, which send them all over the country, sometimes in different directions; how they cope when one person loves and wants to do something the other one hates; and a big one, seeing what happens when one party wants kids and one is unsure.

We see Declan and Grant dealing with the same sorts of issues many couples deal with. All in With Him didn’t provide the same highs and lows of the previous two books in this series, it was mostly full of love and happiness, and given what Declan and Grant went through to be together, they deserve it. And I loved experiencing their love and joy as they navigated their new life together.

A big thank you to Blakely for giving us Grant and Declan, it has been a pleasure reading each of their stories and All in With Him left me with all the warm, happy feelings.

Where I Left Her by Amber Garza

When her teenage daughter goes to a sleepover and doesn’t come back… It’s a mother’s worst nightmare come true. Where I Left Her by Amber Garza.

From the author of When I Was You comes a spine-tingling new thriller about a mother’s worst nightmare come true, when her teenage daughter goes to a sleepover and doesn’t come back.

Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren’s house. She’d never met the parents, and usually she’d go in, but Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the little house with the roses in front.

But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answers the door—Amelia and Lauren aren’t there, and this couple swears they never were, that she’s at the wrong house. As Whitney searches for Amelia, she uncovers a trail of lies her daughter has told her—from the Finsta account to rumors of a secret relationship. Does she really even know this girl she’s raised? And Amelia’s not the only one with secrets. Could Whitney’s own demons have something to do with her daughter’s disappearance, and can Whitney find her before it’s too late?

Avid Reader☆☆☆☆
Psychological Thriller

Whitney is trying her best to raise her daughter, Amelia, through the rebellious teenage years. Whitney is a divorcee who is struggling with how to connect with her daughter and not be the pushy mom who is overbearing. But because Whitney has a past that includes behaviors she's starting to see in her own daughter, it makes Whitney want to hold on that much stronger to her little girl.

Amelia is a sixteen-year-old brat. In all honesty, I disliked her character right away. She's entitled, spoiled, whiny, and somewhat annoying. I felt sorry for Whitney's character at the beginning of the story because Amelia had no respect for her mom.

This is a story told on two different timelines. I found the format somewhat choppy and difficult to read, but I think that's just personal preference. You get to see Whitney's life in parallel with what's happening currently with her own daughter's life.

As the story unfolds, you'll wonder who is telling the truth. It's a twisty, turning road that you'll find yourself wandering. Whitney will have flashbacks to her past, Amelia will see a different path, and Lauren... well, Lauren will give you a whole different perspective.

Once you read the conclusion, you'll be left wondering how one lie can snowball into a lifetime of choices and lies. Is that really all it takes? At times, this book felt like it was dragging on. I understand needing the background, but it was a lot of back and forth. Overall, it was a good psychological thriller and even though I guessed the ending, it didn't detract from the story at all.

TRIGGER WARNING: While there are a few triggers in this book, I am only going to warn about one: PPD. It doesn't play a huge role in the majority of the story, but it is a theme throughout. I am only warning about this one because to warn about the others would be to spoil the surprise.

Crooked Crows by Elena Lawson Blog Tour

Crooked Crows. Boys of Briar Hall. Book One. Elena Lawson. Blog Tour.

Unapologetically f*cked up. Heartlessly cruel. Broken beyond repair.

Corvus, Rook, and Grey – The Crows.

Bred in a world of gang wars, violence, and secrets, they rule the bloody town of Thorn Valley and all the people in it… too bad for me I’ve never been good at kissing ass or keeping quiet.

Even if their savage spirits awaken something inside of me I thought was long dead, I can’t break. I won’t.

They think they scare me, that I’ll run and hide, but the joke’s on them. The Crows aren’t the first monsters I’ve faced, and they won’t be the last. There are worse evils out there waiting to take their stab at Ava Jade Mason.

I say let them try. I’m tired of running. Tired of holding back my darkness. Thorn Valley isn’t ready for a new boogie man. Too bad I’m already here.

Crooked Crows is a dark, enemies-to-lovers, reverse harem romance, meaning the main character will have more than one love interest.

Warning: This series contains foul language, explicit sexual content, graphic depictions of gang violence, and jealous/possessive themes. Recommended for readers aged eighteen and up. Please read responsibly.

Ava Jade is sent away to a new school by her aunt, after losing her father; who knows where her mother is. Ava Jade is not someone you want on your bad side. She was raised to take care of herself. She doesn't take trash from anyone and when she is pushed by the mean bitchy girl at school, Ava Jade fights back. This puts her on the radar of the "bad boys."

Corvus, Rook, and Grey are The Crows and they run the school. Their adoptive father runs everything else. What these boys haven't learned yet, and they will, is that Ava Jade doesn't back down. The funny thing is that each of the three wants her in some way.

Ava Jade is attracted to each of the boys; she wants to know what they are up to. What kind of bad stuff they are doing and why? Will it get her in trouble or get her pulled into their circle?

I was pulled into this story by the intrigue surrounding Ava Jade and the boys. The attraction between them could be good or might end them all. This is a first for me from this author and I cannot wait for more.

Crooked Crows is the debut in the Boys of Briar Hall series, as well as the first I've read by new-to-me author, Elena Lawson.

I need to preface this review by stating the novel's opener was not a hook for me. I struggled several times, picking the book up, attempting to read a few pages, then putting it down again. Having the boys open the novel wasn't a choice I would have made (from a professional standpoint). AJ being a singular narrator vs the three boys would have made for easier digestion of info, less chaos or confusion at word-one.

Once AJ was narrating, I was off, hooked and read to the very last page in a singular sitting.

AJ's father recently passed, his sister becoming AJ's benefactor. After a hard life, it's impossible to switch from independence to subservience, even if that means a brighter future. Attending Briar Hall places her in the crosshairs of the boys.

The three adopted sons of the leader of the local gang affiliation. To be honest, I spent most of the novel confused as to which of the boys had which personality/appearance, their voices so similar. It does get more firm as the story progresses, so book two should be a good divide as to the boys being separate individuals. Of course, they go to school but conveniently have a home of their own nearby the school, with no adult supervision. Of course, they're bullies and misogynists and everyone is terrified of minor children. Of course, they're built like grown men, not like the rest of the teen male population.

As usual, I never truly get a bead on WHY the boys bully her. As a sucker for this genre, maybe three times in hundreds of books has the bullying actually make a lick of sense. This wasn't one of them. The reason weak. But I rolled with it, enjoying the tension.

I won't go into the plot to avoid ruining the experience for readers. Just roll with it, don't think too deeply on things, as they won't get explained. Backstories, personalities, and emotions are just hints, blips on the pages. But since I rolled with it, not thinking too deeply until writing this review, I was thoroughly entertained.

To be honest, there are many issues, but they didn't seem to take away from the addictive storytelling. Other than the difficult opener, a bit too forceful to try to sound badass, there were a TON of loose threads that were never explored or explained, just left dangling, and I hope they're revisited in the sequel. The minor ones will be lost, as they were book specific.

AJ's backstory for one, just snippets one assumed we'd circle back to but never did, the narrator musing as if the reader just knew what was happening. Her two friends, whom she never communicated with, her father's death, why she hated gangs, the first kill.

I'm not a fan of using this style of writing for mystery sake. It's not a mystery when you're literally inside the narrator's mind yet it doesn't get explained. That's a flaw in the writing. A mystery is part of the plot, not evasions inside the narrator's head to add unnecessary confusion. If you don't want the reader to know how the dad died or who these two friends are, don't introduce it as major plot points.

The entire novel surrounds the death of her father, with no real details nor explanations. How does one think about it yet hide it from readers who are literally reading the thought?

What's up with the smell? AJ and Rebecca both smelled it, thinking it nasty, never investigated it, and it was just dropped half a page later. It wasn't AJ after two showers. I expected a dead animal in the dorm suite or something.

That's my point. Things like that. Just brought up as if major, then left hanging or never brought up again. It was bizarre. I understand how the writer knows what's happening and it doesn't transfer to the pages (been there, done that). This is where early readers and an editor should make note of it (awkward, confused, what's this about, explanation needed, is this going to be answered later).

With all that being said, I read it cover to cover, invested in AJ, wishing I had the next immediately. I just hope the author solidifies the boys' voices and personalities, while also making sure, small or large, plot points aren't left hanging. I'm not speaking of a continuing arc over an entire series, but small stuff like the smell, and large stuff, events that shaped the character, like numerous mentions of a first kill but no real info given.

Recommended to fans who enjoy bully romances and reverse harem. I'm looking forward to reading more from the author's backlist, as well as the sequel.

There’s no question that there’s evil at work when he’s called in to examine the murder scene of a college student—but is it just the evil that one human being can do to another, or is it something more? When demonic possession is a possibility, even angelic protection can only go so far. The race is on to stop a killer before he finds his next victim, as Zaniel is forced to confront his own very personal demons, and the past he never truly left behind.

This is a weird and wonderful treat from a favourite author. Laurell K. Hamilton has swapped vampires and shifters for angels and demons – and she immediately pulled me into her fabulous new world.

Laurell K. Hamilton isn’t the first Urban Fantasy writer to take on angels, but this feels fresh and exciting. Part jaded cop, part angelic interpreter, there is nothing straightforward about Zaniel. This first book is part theology, part police procedural, and part horror. Zaniel and his team are chasing something demonic. The tense encounters between the police and the demonic being and the trail of gore left behind will satisfy fans of Anita Blake the marshall. Zaniel’s messy personal and professional life will appeal to readers who love a complex central character.

I really enjoyed the world building here. I love the murky sense of good and evil that develops in this first book as nothing is quite what it seems. Zaniel’s early experiences as an Angel Speaker prompt reflection from readers. Zaniel’s struggle to hold onto his faith while rejecting the cruelty and inconsistency of the cult-like group who raised him will be relatable to many readers.

I feel like this book works on many levels. On a basic level, Zaniel slots easily into the role of a self-destructive Scandi-noir detective in the tradition of Wallander or Harry Hole. The first book is fast paced, carefully plotted, and exciting. On a more complex level, readers are only given a taste of this new world and left with many questions. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

M/F Paranormal

Havoc, aka Zaniel, is a police officer in the Metaphysical Coordination Unit. His job is to notice details that other officers might not notice or see details that others simply can't see. Havoc is trying to find out why there has been an uptick in deaths, with angel feathers in connection to the deaths. That's not normal for angels.

Havoc is also going through a trial separation. I'm not entirely sure why this is in the story. It seems strange to have this line in the book, but maybe it'll play a larger role in the coming books. For this one, it was off topic and didn't mesh well.

The mystery behind the College of Angels and what they are supposed to be teaching is what makes this a mystery. Havoc has only known that the college was doing good, training those around them to be conduits for God. To fight off the evil in the world. But when his long-lost friend is found again, with no signs of being as disturbed as he had been, Havoc has to question all that he was taught.

Then, on the job, Havoc has to deal with a demon who simply won't die in the normal way and has an uncanny ability to evade them. What's going on? How is the demon able to travel and be part of a human? Is the human a willing participant? All of those questions are planned out and asked.

This book is intriguing, and I definitely want to see where this goes. There are a lot of characters introduced in this first book and I hope we get to see them more in the next one.

Wild Spirit by Audrey Carlan Blog Tour

Available Now. Wild Spirit. A Soul Sister Novel.

The newest sizzling romance from Audrey Carlan, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Calendar Girl series.

When I was born, I was beloved by my parents. I felt their warmth from the tips of my toes to the untamable curls in my hair—until tragedy hit and I lost them both.

With no extended family, I ended up in Kerrighan House, a home for girls just like me—girls who’d lost everything. Mama Kerri took me in and treated me with nothing but love, as did the rest of my sisters of the soul. In that house, we formed a bond that could never be broken.

Now danger seems to follow all of us. But what danger could come to me: a petite, high-school Spanish teacher who’d never hurt a fly? The only one on my tail is Omar Alvarado, the bodyguard hired to protect me from the danger lurking around my sisters. The more I shun his advances though, the harder he tries to earn my favor. Omar seems to like my brand of sass and doesn’t hide the fact he wants me for his own.

I’m determined to not get caught up in his beautiful smile, the sexy suggestions he whispers in my ear, or that incredible body that would make any woman swoon with desire.

Even with the tension rising between us, all seemed to be kept in check—until I found myself in the middle of a high stakes bank robbery.

And the only one who could save me, was the one man I tried so desperately to push away.

Excerpt

Which is when I truly noticed all that was Omar the bodyguard.

Heat infused my cheeks as I stared slack-jawed at the magnificent man in front of me. He was much larger than me, but most people were. My sisters called me “Sprite” for a reason. Standing at only five foot three, I was several inches shorter than all of them. Standing next to Addy I seemed miniscule in comparison.

Only this man was something else. Muscular biceps stretched the fabric of his black athletic T-shirt to the very limits. The hem dug into his warm brown skin as though trying desperately not to tear against such bulk. My gaze flowed down his wide chest that went into a V-shape at his waist. I could actually see the ridges and indents of what had to be a washboard stomach through the tight fabric. On his lower half he wore black cargo pants and matching boots, but it wasn’t the imposing nature of his size or clothing that unnerved me. It was his sleek, gorgeous face. Rigid jawline, slashes for cheekbones, and dark, arching eyebrows that haloed the prettiest deep brown eyes. My own were milk chocolate brown, but his, they were melted brown sugar, searing with intensity as we both stood silent and looked our fill of the other. His hair was cut short at the sides with long black layers slicked back and swept off his face on top. If he were wearing a suit, he’d have no trouble fitting in as a put-together businessman with that chosen hairstyle. His lips looked plush, with a plumper bottom one that would be fun to suck on and snap back playfully.

My blood warmed and seemed to pump faster as the images of touching all that muscle, trailing my fingertips along such golden skin, invaded my mind. The more I took in, the more I realized he was simply the most handsome man I’d ever laid eyes on.

Trying to hide my visceral response, I pushed a lock of unruly curls behind my ear, checked that my flirty sundress wasn’t out of place after my dash down the stairs, and slowly looked up into those brown sugar eyes. “Um, hola. I’m Liliana.”

He smiled, and I swallowed slowly while letting out a breath I’d been holding since this vision of male perfection entered my sphere of recognition.

Addison’s voice broke me out of my reverie. “Well, I’m going to leave you two to your introductions. See you later?”

My automatic response was to nod dumbly.

This is the third book in the series – and I would definitely recommend that you read them in order, as the story is ongoing. This one picks up part way through the previous book, this time from Liliana's viewpoint.

After the last book, it seemed unlikely that there could be any more drama, but this time it is pure chance and incredible bad luck which causes danger to a soul sister. I was really curious how it could possibly play out, but should not have worried, as I am well aware of Carlan's writing talents. It is a very tense and engaging plot, which helps showcase Omar's seriousness about his feelings for the wary Liliana.

I loved catching up with the Kerrighan family and seeing how the previous romances were standing firm and that there were possibilities for the sisters who are still single. We are promised more stories only if we ask for them and time permits... so I am definitely adding my voice to a request for more Soul Sister stories – no rush, but yes please!

The Sinner by Emma Scott Bookstagram Blitz

The Sinner by Emma Scott. Available Now. Kindle Unlimited.

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Emma Scott, comes an emotional paranormal love story of passion, sacrifice, and the soul-deep love of a lifetime... more than one.

Shy, introverted Lucy Dennings lives a quiet little life in New York City, working for a nonprofit and keeping to herself. Every afternoon, she goes home to her empty apartment and Edgar, her houseplant, and every night, she loses herself in the pages of her beloved romance novels. Her lonely heart seeks solace in tales of passionate, enduring, all-consuming love, but more and more, Lucy feels she's not just reading for pleasure but searching for a lost piece of herself in the pages. As if she once touched something beautiful but it's been ripped away.

Until one day Lucy discovers a dead body in the alley behind her apartment. Even if it's too late, her first instinct is to help.

Her second is to run.

Because the dead body isn't so very dead, and suddenly, her little world isn't so little but one in which dreams feel like memories, "inner demons" actually lurk in dark alleys, and a beautiful creature of darkness with amber eyes and wings like night might hold the key to what her heart has been aching for... if she doesn't fall down the path of eternal damnation first.

When I received the email regarding this book, I knew I wanted to read it. I don't think I even read the synopsis, I saw the cover and author and I had to have it.

It was more than I could have imagined. Lucy and Cas had me not wanting to put my Kindle down, not even for sleep. I was hooked from the very first page – I mean, Lucy finds a dead body (or so she thought) in the alley behind her apartment building. It is the perfect way to draw you in and you will be on the edge of your seat because you will want to know what happens to Lucy.

I love stories with angels, demons, and good versus evil. This story covers all that and then some. Author Emma Scott has taken the love of two people and given them a second chance that has to fight evil, demons, and damnation. You have to be rooting for Lucy and Cas throughout this story, it is the only way for this story to end. I loved everything about it, and I hope you do too.

I would wait for you until the sun goes black and the stars fall, beloved.

This was real. He was real and not a dream. This wasn’t someone else’s story but ours. His and mine.
