I absolutely LOVED Consort of Fire, book one in the Bound to Fire and Steel series, and they do need to be read in order as book two is a continuation from the first. I promise you, this series doesn't disappoint!

As Zanya finds herself, Sachi is left drifting and trying to find her purpose. The gods all have their own gifts and Zanya is trying to learn how to wield her power, often clumsily, but she's doing the best she can with what she has to work with. Ash is trying to keep the world together, avoiding any further confrontations with the Betrayer. To summarize, there is too much going on and something has to give!

I adore the growth that Zanya experiences, I find myself drawn to her and hoping everything finally "clicks." That's not to say she is more important than the other two, not at all. All three have a lot to overcome and are stronger together yet each have important roles to play.
Sachi really shines in this book (quite literally)! She is the embodiment of love and light; she is the perfect complement to Zanya's dark. When the time comes for Sachi to step up, she embraces the challenge with no fear!

Overall, I really enjoyed book two in the newest series by Kit Rocha (I love both books)! The story is unique, the characters are interesting, and the romance is different (and spicy). I don't want to say goodbye, I would really like to see how the court deals with the new, improved world!

This is the second book in this very engaging series, and you most definitely need to read them in order... or you will be pretty lost! If you read Consort of Fire a while ago, I think you will find that it all comes flooding back to you very quickly!

As Ash, Sachi, and Zanya somehow start to understand what they mean to each other and how their future might be, the women are also learning about their godly gifts. For Zanya, in particular, she needs to gain control of the immense power that she wields. Her lack of knowledge is causing mayhem and destruction – I loved how she is finally accepted for herself... even if she finds it very difficult to believe or trust it. Sachi is intent on finding a non-violent solution to the problems of The Betrayer still wanting to beat his brother Ash. Her world of Dreams is also one she is not entirely in control there yet. Ash and Zanya want to protect Sachi, yet their actions drive her into action.

This is a great adventure in another world, with at its heart the love of the three of them. The passion they unleash on each other is wonderfully hot and intense – giving them a chance to show how they feel even when they are not good at saying it. Very sensual and romantic amongst the madness going on around them

Already waiting for the next installment!

They arrived at the cabin, but as much as he wanted to jump on his mate’s cock and ride it like he stole it, as the saying went, he didn’t want Marcus to mistake his passion for incubus magic again, though the lingering effect had left Dane more than a little hot to trot.

“Why are you telling me this?”

As Marcus used the keycard to open the door, Dane explained, “Because I intended to make love to you tonight, but since it happened, I thought you deserved to know. Do you still wish to make love?”

Just as Dane asked, two women walked by dressed as Wilma and Betty from The Flintstones for the Howl at the Moon party. The caveman/sasquatch/werewolf theme allowed shifters to let their fur down while a shifter rock band provided live entertainment. The women had obviously overheard Dane because they giggled.

Cheeks warming, Marcus looked at the retreating women then smiled at Dane and hesitated, the door half open. “But you wanted me before that... right?”

He hated how he’d caused doubts for his mate. Wanting to reassure him, he placed a hand on his chest. “I cannot lie to you, heart of mine. I always want you. I want to make love.” That was something Dane had never done before. “The passing whiff of incubi pheromones just made the want more... urgent, if you will. I’ve been half-hard ever since and with our bed so close, the urgency has only increased.”

Dane ran both hands over Marcus’s chest, the soft white linen of their funeral attire scratching his palms as he deliberately teased his mate’s sensitive nipples. “I will not lie to you, Marcus. I cannot. Being in Nathan’s presence always runs the risk of affecting me. If he feels or senses desire, his demon side responds, and therefore I will feel it, sometimes even when he has a shield up, like tonight. But know this, it is you that I want. It has only been you since I first laid eyes on you. Only you, Marcus. Do you understand?”

“I do.” And his entire body seemed to uncoil, right before Dane’s eyes.

“Now let us retire to our cabin, darling.”

“Where you’ll make love to me?”

“I will.”

As he slipped into the cabin, Marcus smiled so wide his eyes creased and almost disappeared.

But something he’d said dawned on Dane. “I enjoy bottoming and I know you let me take you our first time, but is it something you enjoy?”

Chewing his lower lip, Marcus nodded, then he hastily pulled Dane all the way into the cabin and shut the door before anyone else could walk by and overhear their intimate conversation. A small desk lamp provided the only light besides the stars and moon in the porthole window, but Dane could see the sudden fire in Marcus’s dark gaze.

“Yeah, I do like bottoming,” Marcus whispered, as if they weren’t alone. “But I had a question first.”

“What’s that?” Dane queried, toeing off his shoes and kicking them out of the way.

“Can you...?” Marcus hesitated, cheeks darkening. “In your... true form. Can you, I mean, do you have... um, you know?”

Dane grinned. “Is everything in proper working order in my true form?”

Gaze hungry, Marcus chewed his lower lip again, nodding.

“I assure you everything works, though it is much larger. Why? Would you like me to fuck you while I am in my true form?”

The lip chewing intensified along with his mate’s hungry blush. “I’ve um, never...”

“Never what?” Feeling predatory, he stepped closer to his mate. The man’s erection, like his own, made a rather obvious display in the linen pants. “Speak freely. There can be no embarrassment or any more secrets between us.”

Marcus swallowed hard and released his lip, now swollen and red. “I’m a big guy.”

“I know.” Dane ran his hand over said big chest again, slipping a hand beneath the hem of his white tunic to caress those warm muscles. Dane could practically feel Marcus’s submission like a heady drug, amping up his own arousal.

“I’ve always been the bigger guy when I have sex, and I usually top.”

Though Dane despised hearing about his previous sexual experiences, he listened intently, wanting to give his mate everything he’d ever wanted. “Go on.”

“I’ve bottomed enough to know I like that too. And I have a few toys.”

The words themselves were so honest, so pure Dane felt the magic in them. A vow of protection and care.

This is the fourth book in the series. While I have enjoyed this series, I'm starting to lose interest for some reason and I honestly don't know why. I liked Marcus but I didn't really like Dane – he refused his mate, who does that? And he was kind of a jerk and hard to like. Dane finally gets his head out of his butt. They do figure things out after facing danger and all the twist and turns of their journey, and finally get their happily ever after.

Twenty years since Somerset had tried to tap the power of his old position. Now he had done it twice in one night. He would never admit it, but as the wind blew up into his armpits, he wasn’t sure the magic he’d set aside would answer.

Cold filled his chest and soaked out into his body. It spilled out of his mouth on white fog and turned his marrow into frost. The only heat in him came from the prickle of pain as a dozen tiny fractures crazed along the bones of his arms and legs. The threads of the North Wind surged up around him and thickened under his feet. His boots skidded on the slick, snow-vapor surface at first. It was solid, but not still. The wind blew and eddied under his weight. It made for unsteady footing.

The weight of Dylan as he swung awkwardly from Somerset’s grip didn’t help. Somerset briefly indulged the thought of letting him drop. He was not a sentimental man at the best of times, that wasn’t what his kind had been made to be, and the chill of Winter magic in his bones reduced the idea of logic and odds.

Mostly.

Dylan didn’t scream or thrash. He gripped Somerset’s wrist with white-knuckled fingers and kept his eyes closed so he didn’t give in and look down. Somerset had always liked that quality about the wiry paramedic. No matter what happened around him, Dylan was always the calm at the heart of the storm. It made him… pleasant… to be around.

Something in Somerset’s chest, buried down deep under permafrosted meat and organs, felt warm. The rest of him was too Winter-numb to put his finger on what the feeling was. Guilt maybe. Or something stupider.

Either way, as he remembered the knack to riding the storm, he dragged Dylan into his arms. The other man resisted at first—Somerset didn’t take it personally—but the only other option was to fall. It wasn’t a hard choice to make. Dylan pressed against Somerset’s chest, arms wrapped around him so tightly that Somerset could feel knuckly fists dug into the small of his back.

Somerset enjoyed the feeling of the warm, lean body pressed against him for a moment, then he had to focus on what he was doing.

“You can fly?” Dylan asked, his voice ragged and his breath warm against Somerset as it seeped through the cotton T-shirt. When Dylan laughed, it was a thin, nervous sound. “Explains what happened to my car.”

Somerset hesitated as he narrowed his eyes. He could see the snow caught in his lashes. Dylan was right; that probably had been what happened.

As many questions as that answered, though, it raised more. Wolves couldn’t walk the storm, so who’d brought Gull down? Had he already been injured?

The wind took advantage of Somerset’s distraction and tried to drop from under him. He stumbled, caught himself, and did his best to ignore the way Dylan’s arms tightened around him.

3.5 stars rounded up

This is the first in a new series and mindful of that, I expected some world building; however, I did feel that we were expected to have some understanding of things which didn't really ever get fully developed – it will be interesting to see if future installments fill in the details. I particularly would have liked a little more on the main characters before they were pitched into the crazy.

Some elements were telegraphed loudly though, and that was both confusing and intriguing! What I did feel was missing was any softness whatsoever. Whilst I hadn't expected a sweet and cosy Christmas love story from the blurb, I did expect more emotion or romance. There was much merit in showing the darker underbelly of the Santa story, the violence and power play at times overrode the message of the book.

I am very curious to read the next installment!

Stings and Stones is an anthology collection of short stories from the Elemental Assassin universe, narrated by several of the main cast.

Note: These stories are not new shorts; previously featured on Jennifer Estep's website and within multi-author anthologies. For the first time ever, all the shorts are bundled into one handy location.

I would suggest only reading this collection of shorts if you have read at least the first 10 full-length novels to avoid spoiling the plot, as well as it would help to avoid confusion since the world building would be established.

Even though I had read every single one of these shorts previously, it was delightful to revisit the series again. Gin's sarcastic flair and how she views the world eradicated my reader's block. It was nice to sit down, enjoy a short story for a few minutes of escapism without the long-term commitment of reading a novel from start to finish. I read this during the Thanksgiving holiday while hosting guests, where I took a few minutes to myself to read a short or two at a time.

As soon as I hit post on this review, I have Spider's Bite already queued up. Time to go back to the very beginning and reexperience everything. My name is Gin, and I kill people.

This is the first book in a trilogy, and it definitely leaves you wanting more – and quickly! So cliffhanger haters, be warned!

I love the layering of this story, and the time travel dreams which soon cause the heroine, Sonya, to wonder just what she has stepped into!

We meet her dissolving her relationship and leaving her job due to an unfaithful and vindictive fiancé. She is then catapulted into a new life, as an heiress of a haunted mansion in Maine, with a decision to stay man free seriously challenged by the arrival of the rather wonderful Trey.

As she tries to rebuild her career, and understand the somewhat cryptic messages and frightening dreams of her inheritance, we travel with her in this unexpected change of direction of her life – finding out more about her father's family is intriguing for sure. I loved that once her best friend Cleo came to visit, she decided to also move and support her in this adventure – always good to have a friend by one's side when things go really weird!

Expect lots of gothic drama and modern-day romance in this very engaging and page turning story... I just need book two and soon!
