I was mad at the world, at the whiskey for not being strong enough, at the drugs for not lasting long enough, at the fucking whores I banged for not getting me off when it was my fault my dick was fucking useless after a bucket of fucking blow. I went so far as to be pissed at random people on the street for laughing or smiling when I felt like I’d never be able to smile or laugh again.

How dare they?

How fucking dare they be move on with their lives like my friend hadn’t just died.

I was on the verge of losing what little sanity I had left when I rode out of Logan's Beach and set off to find a place, or places, where I could numb myself against the feelings that followed me from town to town, cheap motel to cheap motel, girl to girl, high to fucking high.

Then, this pink haired girl from the past came barreling into my life and it was like for the first time, I’d found a purpose. A real genuine purpose and not just some shit Chop spewed out as orders that I and every other member of the Beach Bastards took as bible, but a true reason to live again.

To WANT to live again.

Someone to live for.

Ti was my chance at some sort of real happiness when Lord fucking knows I had no idea what that really was before her. The only glimpses of real genuine happiness I'd ever had came courtesy of Preppy, King, and of course Grace. Like when King tattooed us for the first time and we loved them, even though they were crooked and downright fucking awful. Like when Grace made me my very first birthday cake. Like the time King Prep and I sat at the top of the water tower and thought the world was ours to take.

Because at that time, it was.

Then there was Ti and my new happiness became the first time I saw her smile. The first time I kissed her. The first time I tasted her pussy by the fire. The first time she let me inside of her, shamelessly pushing through her virginity in a frantic need to make her mine.

Because that's what she was.

That's what she would always be.

And I will kill every motherfucker who dares to try and take her from me.

The world was dark and you turned on the fucking light switch and now it's so bright, I'm walking around blind. I'm in fucking jail...and I've never been happier.

Soulless picks up where Lawless ends. Bear's walked away from the Bastards for the only family he's ever known. He takes the blame for the murder of Thia's parents to save her from going to prison. He has a plan, he only asks one thing of her, to trust in him. She's to stay at her parents’ house and with Rage to watch over her, to stop her from leaving the house.

I had no use for dreams when mine was already lying on top of me, fast asleep.

While in prison, Bear learned some valuable information to use against Chop. One way or another Chop is going down. War has been declared and Bear fully intends to walk away. When Thia disappears, Bear knows exactly where to look for her.

I wasn't just after revenge. I was on a fucking hunt.

On my bike, with Logan's Beach blurring around me, I became the soulless monster who was willing to spill rivers full of blood for my girl.

Bear makes it to the club, but what he finds isn't exactly what he thought it would be.

I can't go into any further detail without spoiling the story line, you'll just have to read it to find out what's worth it.

I loved Soulless, fell in love a little deeper with Bear and cried my heart out for Grace. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? Soulless was a huge 5 star read for me...until the epilogue. I know it will not be a popular opinion when I say I really, really wasn't a fan of the ending...not the bonus scene, I enjoyed that. The epilogue ending. I can see where Ms. Frazier is going, or at least I hope that is where she is going, but I still felt cheated. I had grown to accept and love the reality that was going on through the second, third and most of this book. I'd come to love the smart ass replies, the words of wisdom, funny stories, but for it to change in one sentence...which should have made me ecstatic but did just the opposite. I was seriously mad about that when I closed my Kindle. It definitely had me scratching my head, thinking what just happened?

4.5 Stars!
Once I started reading this one I couldn't put it down, I loved it!

After reading Lawless, Bear was my favorite and since the ending of book one, I've been highly anticipating this book!

After taking the fall for Thia, Bear is in prison and coming to the realization that he may never be getting out. Soon after being put behind bars he receives a visit from his mother, whom he thought had been dead since he was 5 years old, and the visit left him even more confused than before. Bear spends the bulk of his time in prison dreaming and wondering about Thia. While Thia spends the time that Bear is in prison locked away in a safe house with a slightly crazy woman that King and Bear hired to protect her. After several months of waiting, Thia overhears a phone call about Bear and sets out to "help" him, winding up in big trouble.

I love Bear and Thia's relationship. They both have such strong loyalty to the other and it's inspiring. Thia realizes her own strength during this book and she's definitely a woman who will do anything for her man.

I highly recommend this series and can't wait to read more from TM Frazier.

This series has been a serious roller coaster of crazy from page one and book four did NOT disappoint!
Lawless left off on such a cliff-hanger that I couldn't wait to finish Bear & Thia's story, they so deserve their happily ever after.
Imagine my surprise when starting Soulless to a completely different scene then the final one in Lawless!
Knowing that Bear is all-in with Thia, protecting her from prison – we expect nothing less from him than absolute biker perfection. Prison provides a lot of information about the Beach Bastards, giving Bear an opportunity that he just can't pass up.
Meanwhile, Thia is continuing with her life sans Bear – not to say she's alone...we get a NEW character: Rage. *What I will say is Rage seems like a kick-ass character (when she's on your side), unfortunately she didn't have much of a personality. I'm hoping this will be resolved in subsequent books as I really want to get to know her.

Their love story is certainly dark and difficult, with danger lurking around every corner, but when they are reunited – Watch Out!! These two are just amazing together and deserve one another.
I really did love this story, all the ends are tied and still surprises pop up here and there.
Be prepared to laugh and cry – there is plenty of opportunity for both.

If I had to list a con to this story, it would be the insane epilogue. I just don't understand how it's possible...or WHY. I need to re-read the other books because I'm just really confused (and not in a good way).

Counterfeit Conscience by Helena Maeve

On the brink of retirement, a spy will risk all.

The writing’s on the wall. Will Rowe has no illusions about retaining his post as the head of the largest Section field office in South America. Private contractors, some more lawful than others, already see to most of their interests. It’s only a matter of time before Will himself is made redundant. He’d like to think he’s made peace with the inevitable, but when a figure from his past offers one last chance to make a difference, Will can’t resist.

Caught between his duty to the agency and his commitment to protect his operatives, Will must persuade the man who nearly wrecked his career to give up the one and only constant in his world—revenge.

Ignacio was a low-grade runner for the infamous Macias cartel the last time he and Will spoke. Now he is the head of the family and a direct beneficiary of MI6 cost-cutting measures. Will knows that approaching such a man without his superiors’ knowledge or approval is a perilous undertaking, but he doesn’t expect his body and heart to become forfeit. As events spiral out of his control, Will finds himself at the mercy of an old lover intent on awakening desires he long thought suppressed.

This is the fifth in the series – and I would recommend that you read them in order...even better, read them one after the other, as the underlying plot is convoluted to say the least, and not everything is yet revealed! I am looking forward to them all being out and having a reading jag, so that I will get all the subtleties that I miss due to not having all the names and roles at the front of my mind. What I have thought, as I have read them, is that being sexually open is obviously an advantage and also a disadvantage when you are in the spy business!

There is a little more information about Karim's bosses here, but not a lot – and we get an interesting cross/double-cross scenario playing out with Will and his erstwhile lover Ignacio. Can I tell you how it ends up? Possibly not, because there is bound to be another twist in the offing. Good to meet some new characters and hear of old 'friends' too. The mix of spies, harshness and intimacy is confusing, but makes for interesting reading.

Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy

Perfect for readers of Colleen Hoover, Jay Crownover, and K.A. Tucker, the first novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy kicks off an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I'm a fifteen-year-old again--the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She's grown-up now--beautiful, quiet, composed--and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she's safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends...but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I'm stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she'll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team

Blurb was strangely compelling but the actual story didn't really grab me to be honest. Author even states that she is writing out of category for herself, but all I saw was there was no way this relationship could survive without major problems. Katie survived a horrific kidnapping and rape only to have feelings for the son of the man who kept her. Sounds plausible...but a few minor secrets, which turn into huge problems after they come out. As always, some reporter is always looking for a story and we must always make movies based on someone's pain and suffering. This was a train wreck book. Even going in you knew this was going to go to hell fast, but I still plugged away at it hoping for a different ending minus a cliffhanger. My entertainment was three and a half stars, and I would still read book two. This author is pretty much hit or miss with me but I find myself on the fence with this one.

Not having reread the blurb before starting this book kind of left me reeling as I really wasn’t expecting the story I delved into. I read one of Murphy’s books a few years ago, so I suppose I was relying on that experience and the new adult genre as a vague guide of what to expect. While the author’s writing has only gotten stronger since then, Never Tear Us Apart wasn’t what I was expecting when I began reading, but I’m actually glad I didn’t reread the blurb because it gave me the opportunity to experience Katie and Ethan’s story without any expectations – except knowing that it is the first book in a two-book series (at least I think it’s only two).

By opening the book with Katherine preparing for her first ever interview to discuss what happened to her eight years ago, Murphy hooked me completely because she does such a good job of making Katherine real. The way the book jumps from the past to the present is seamless. I would have expected the way the past jumps around – with it not being told in the sequential order of events – would have made it difficult to keep up with, but it wasn’t. Because parts of the story are told from Katherine/Katie’s point of view, and parts are told from Ethan/Will’s point of view, trips to the past are recollections of events that are typically triggered by something in the present. So even though the past is presented out of order, it’s done within the context of present events and this helped me prepare for some of the revelations better. Getting both characters’ points of view helps immensely because even though you know Ethan’s secret will eventually come out and it won’t end well, it’s hard to fault him for it. While his intentions might not be pure, they don’t come from a bad place and the more time he spends with Katherine, falling for her, caring for her, and wanting to protect her, it’s abundantly clear that his fear of losing her makes it that much harder for him to tell Katherine who he is. Now with this kind of storyline and knowing it’s book one, it wasn’t difficult to see that Katherine would eventually discover who Ethan was, but I really wasn’t expecting it to play out the way it did.

While Never Tear Us Apart certainly deals with some dark subject matter, Murphy doesn’t force the reader to relive it in detail through Katie’s memories. We know what happened because of the bruises, because of the details Katie can admit to (i.e., being slapped), by what her memory shies away from, and because of the conviction. This doesn’t mean that if you are sensitive to the subject matter that you won’t be affected because you don’t have to read the details. In fact, I suspect it will be quite the opposite because not knowing the details of Katie’s abduction leaves the reader’s imagination to fill them in and that coupled with how effectively Katherine’s emotions come across the page means that it may be even more of a trigger for some readers. Never Tear Us Apart was a thoroughly engrossing read for me and even knowing that it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, I still wasn’t prepared for it. I cannot wait to start Never Let You Go and am beyond relieved that I don’t have to wait for its release – just until I can find a “free” day in my review schedule (and that’s actually laughable).

Lost was another crazy ride from the creative collaboration of Ker Dukey and D.H. Sidebottom. Together, these ladies were able to create a story full of suspense and darkness that ONLY they can create.

Winter and Summer have had a very difficult start to life, born to a drug-addicted mother who turns tricks to afford her habit, they are doomed from the beginning. Winter has always protected her younger sibling, taken the brunt of abuse from johns, and ultimately sold her soul to get them out.
When Summer goes missing, Winter's world is destroyed and our dark, depraved story starts!
Not trusting the police to find Summer, Winter embarks on a journey to save her sister again.
With a serial murderer on the run, Winter will do whatever it takes to find her sister – ANYTHING.
With a little help from super-hot policeman Cole, they take the case...

This was a thrilling story full of suspense, depravity, sexy-dark scenes and secrets. I was guessing at every turn, my attention never waived, and I just couldn't devour this fast enough!!

You can't go wrong with the duo. Dukey and Sidebottom bring it in this one. They give you everything you crave in a dark read.

Being the daughter of a drug addict, Winter has had to sacrifice. She grew up fighting off her mom's "boyfriends" and protecting her sister, Summer. Being saved from that hell, she thought the worst part of her life was over until she finds out Summer is missing and there is a serial killer, The Angel Killer, on the loose.

I'm going to find my sister, and if someone has her, I am going to kill whoever took her.

Winter will do anything to find her sister. She's killed for her before, she wouldn't hesitate to do it again to have Summer safe. Cole was the cop to save Summer and Winter from the tragedy that was their mother. By some coincidence, he's back to help Winter again. The two fight the chemistry between them while trying to track down her sister before it's too late.

Lost is a page turner for sure. The dark that this duo can produce is awe inspiring. I loved seeing the dark, deprived, intense world they can create. They kept me guessing throughout the read.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active… I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could have improved the story if they took another direction so I thought it best that I tell my own.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I'm not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I'm a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Frisked in Fondant by Nikki Duncan

A kiss by any other name would never taste as sweet as his.

When Gisella Sands isn’t busy creating magical wedding cakes, she shows the outside world the lighthearted, teasing manner that fools everyone, even her friends at Tulle and Tulips.

Once she’s home alone with her cats, the façade falls away. No one would guess that her tragic past is her only companion in the night. Or that this confectionary genius has never tasted the sweetness of a man’s kiss.

The less Kyle Riley talks, the more others fill the silence—a handy skill for a homicide detective, not so much for a social life. Dedicated to his job, he’s never been tempted to take more than one taste of any woman. Until he responds to a home invasion and finds Gisella, the bridesmaid he walked down the aisle at a friend’s wedding, bleeding on the floor.

In a heartbeat, all thoughts of keeping his professional distance disintegrate. But when the heat melts the walls guarding their secrets, their recipe for one perfect night could fall flat.

Warning: Contains a man who rarely strings more than fifteen syllables together, and a woman who can read him like a cookbook. When strong and silent meets sweet and bubbly, something’s bound to boil over.

Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team

In such a short novel, there is no time for a happily ever after, but we do get a happy for now, which is better. The leads met a little while ago, and so have some history, which also makes the events much more believable. These things matter in shorter novels, as rushing is not always sexy. We get plenty of context and enough detail about their pasts to make this a well-rounded story. The snippets about Gisella's friends will have me reading more of these books, that is for sure.

Not having read any of the previous installments in this series or any of this author’s work, I still found myself unable to pass up Frisked in Fondant because the blurb was just too appealing. After finishing it, I’m very happy that I didn’t say no to it because Gisella and Kyle’s story proved to be even more enjoyable than I expected.

Even though it’s clear that the two are barely more than passing acquaintances, having been paired together in a mutual friend’s wedding, the connection between them is undeniable. But rather than creating an insta-lust or insta-love feel to the novella, Kyle’s presence gives Gisella a sense of safety and security she hasn’t experienced since her parents’ deaths when she was a child. That Gisella discover this when he’s called to the scene of a home invasion and discovers that she is the victim of an extremely violent attack proves tricky as he is the lead detective on the case. Duncan’s ability to establish such a powerful connection between the two without falling into the insta-love trap was quite impressive.

I enjoyed Kyle’s inner struggles as for the first time in his career, he was finding it impossible to keep his personal feelings out of his professional duties. I also enjoyed that while he did this, he didn’t suddenly become the overly sensitive male we frequently see in romances. He did have his moments of sensitivity, such as when he asked his father “How’s it make you feel when Mom walks in the room?” But they were along the lines I would expect of a man in his job and with the past the author provided, including the broken nose he delivered toward the end of the book. The sexual chemistry between them is steamy and I liked how the author treated Gisella’s inexperience. I was further impressed by how Duncan was able to make Gisella’s attack and tragic past powerful, without being graphic in the details. I might enjoy reading dark and violent romances, but it wasn’t appropriate for this one and I appreciated the authors decision not to take it there. The author’s handling of the crime spree felt realistic and I liked the way it played out. All in all, I found Frisked in Fondant to be a thoroughly enjoyable read, giving me more depth and character connection than I expected to find in a novella of its length, enough so that I found its length to be irrelevant as it was a whole story. I look forward to checking out the other books in the Tulle and Tulips series.

Days once filled with heart stopping puppy chases and aborted hangings of Vampire Barbie now resound with the high notes and low notes, the trills and vibratos, and the dynamics of two budding musicians in the hectic life of Nikki Duncan. The athletic equestrian turned creaky jointed author is drawn to the siren song of a fresh storyline.

Nikki Duncan plots tragedies over breakfast, sexual adventures over lunch and turns to sensual phrases after dinner. Every story greets her with the anticipation and pleasurable excitement of unraveling her characters’ motivation and keeps her writing well past the witching hour.

The only anxiety and apprehension tormenting this author comes from pondering a heartfelt outcome to satisfy her characters and readers.

Nikki loves to hear from readers, so don't be shy.
