In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler

He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had aimed at him, but nothing would come out. It was like she'd robbed him of the ability to speak. Shooting her wasn't an option, though. And the idea of arresting her didn't make him feel any better.

There's a new gang of criminals in town who are organized and ruthless in the extreme. When Eric Becker, along with the rest of the Dallas SWAT team, ends up in the middle of a shootout, he immediately senses werewolves-a lot of them. Turns out, the new bad guys are a pack of wolf shifters.

In a spray of gunfire, Becker comes face-to-face with the most gorgeous woman he's ever seen. Becker does the logical thing. He hides her and leaves the scene with the rest of his team.

Jayna Winston has no idea why that SWAT guy helped her, but she's glad he did. Ever since she and her pack mates got mixed up with those Eastern European mobsters, everything had pretty much fallen apart.

So what's a street-savvy thief like Jayna going to do with a hot alpha-male wolf who's a police officer?

I really enjoyed this book even though I hadn't read the first two books in this series. We did get to see the two previous couples (or who I assume they were) but the story was strong enough and I didn't feel like I was missing out on much from having not read the others.

There was a lot of action and some seriously hot romance going on. I loved the SWAT aspect along with the pack and Albanians. I couldn't put the book down. There was so much going on, I just had to know what was going to happen and how it was all going to work out.

I can't wait to read more from this author in the future!

Although the third in the series, I think that it can be read successfully as a standalone. There are hints as to what the other books led to, but the romance here is new.

I really enjoyed the story, felt that the plot was strong enough in all ways, except one – why did Eric feel the need to keep the whole thing secret from his team? I am still not sure that I get that bit. That said, it did not reduce my enjoyment overall. In fact, even though I have read many paranormal stories in the past, I liked that this one was a bit different, that the Weres weren't so rigid in their thinking, or understanding of their roles. It was refreshing and made plot twists more realistic. The dynamics between the characters worked partly due to this and helped the story along. It ends well, and with plenty of openings for more stories in the future. I look forward to seeing whose turn it is next!
