Love Me Tenor by Annabeth Albert

There’s no way he’ll shake this off…

Trevor Daniels is feeling aimless. A recent college grad, he’s not sure what to do with his useless degree, and his family all but abandoned him after he revealed the truth about himself. But a friend’s suggestion that he take his chances on a reality show aimed at finding the next big boy band strikes a chord with him—until the show’s producers convince him to act like he’s in a relationship with a guy who’s not at all his type. It isn’t exactly love at first sight for Jalen Smith either—but lust just might push them in an unexpected direction. If only their secrets weren’t even more twisted than their sheets, threatening to cost them the win—and each other…

Kris☆☆☆☆
Love Me Tenor is the second book I have read by Annabeth Albert. I really enjoyed her writing style and the subject matter of the books. The A Cappella and singing competition aspect of these novels drew me in (avid American Idol watcher) and Love Me Tenor plays along these lines also.

I loved the tweets from the cast of the show displayed in the book and the dynamic of the groups performing. Love Me Tenor is like a behind the scenes view into the inner workings and relationships formed during filming of reality music TV shows. I enjoyed the journey with Jalen & Trevor, a made up relationship for the camera that turns into the real thing. Which neither boy was really expecting and the pitfalls of what is real & what is staged really makes for good drama. The trials of their relationship were poignant and what I think would to be very real life. Trevor just came out and Jalen isn't sure he can handle all of Trevor's quirks. Trevor's family problems and his guilt about his not living up to their expectations was written heartfelt and emotional. The side characters were nicely displayed and have me wondering who might the next book be about. Looking forward to more!

When Trevor's family learns that he is gay, they turn their backs on him. He's about to be homeless until he learns about a singing competition that is being filmed with housing included. The competition is about making a boy band. They think making "boyfriends" of the teams. Trevor's "boyfriend" is Jalen. Off camera these two can't seem to get along, but need to be "on" for the cameras. They need to make their relationship seem real. Eventually a friendship starts to build, a flirty relationship starts.

Love Me Tenor was a quick read. I like the premise and that the story was more about the relationship than all of the show stuff. It really was a sweet read.

This is the second in the series, and is another hit for me. This time around we are not in A Capella, but boy band reality TV. And we have Trevor as the lead. He was such a sad character that he definitely deserved his time in the sun. Well after a few false starts and worrying turns, he finds all his heart, and body desire. I love Jalen too, and how they grow together as a couple and as part of the band. There is humour in the storyline – who cannot laugh at the workings of a reality show? But it is done with good grace and is a fun and romantic read.
