Corbin’s Bend – Deceptive Practices by Tabitha Marks

Nancy always dreamed of becoming a doctor and planned to spend her life focusing on her career, giving little thought to marriage or having a family. Luckily love found her when she met Sebastian Zeal in college. Supportive, gentle and loving, Sebastian was her rock through her long years of medical school and residency, even leaving his own teaching career after an unexpected pregnancy.

Despite being a successful doctor, Nancy longs to give up control to her husband and have him spank her when she needs it. Unfortunately, Sebastian doesn’t understand her desires, instead believing an equal partnership is the only path to a successful marriage.

He eventually agrees to give Nancy the occasional spanking, but she wants more, and ends up tricking her husband into moving to the spanking community of Corbin’s Bend. When Sebastian discovers Nancy’s deception he decides to embrace the lifestyle, but Nancy soon realizes there’s a definite difference between dreams and reality. Will this couple find their balance and embrace their new lives in Corbin’s Bend, or return to their old way of life at the first opportunity?

I have been really disappointed with books in this series lately but this book was good. There were several times I wanted to reach through my e-reader and slap Nancy silly. I am so glad Sebastian finally took on the HOH and gave her what she needed. This was a really good story and held my attention the entire time.

I have enjoyed reading all the seasons of Corbin's Bend books, and this season is bringing us some great new stories. Do go back and read some of the others if you enjoy this one, as they are fun.

I really enjoyed this story, and felt that the picture painted was very clear, a testament to Ms. Marks' writing style. I found the relationship between Nancy and Sebastian to be really vividly described, and the gender career reversal worked well when coupled with the HOH dynamic. I loved that we got to see the nurturing and supportive side of Corbin’s Bend in full swing. All in all a great addition to the series.

This is the latest installment in the Corbin's Bend series. It has an excellent premise and storyline. To me, the story fell apart when Brent and Jonathan found out about Nancy's deception in order to move into town.

I fully expected Nancy to be taken before the disciplinary committee for a public punishment if she expected to stay in Corbin's Bend. Yes, she is new to the lifestyle, but she manipulated not only her husband, but the housing board as well. Until now, the "housing board," to me, has been this very thorough group of people who vet the applicants extensively.

Not only does Sebastian have to deal with a cross country move but also the fact that his wife lied to him about the community they were moving to, he has to explore the DD lifestyle if he wants to stay in their new home.

I really enjoyed this book. Along the same vein as last season’s Psychology of Submission by Livia Grant, Deceptive Practices looks at a domestic discipline (DD) relationship in which the taken in hand (TiH) is a well-educated medical professional – someone I can relate to career-wise. Unlike Traci, Nancy has no practical experience with DD, having only researched the subject online, yet believes it to be exactly what she needs from her husband. While she was able to convince her husband to spank her erotically, her efforts to convince him that a DD relationship was what she needed from him have failed completely. Because of this, her decision to apply for a radiologist position at the new Corbin’s Bend Medical Center without telling Sebastian was kind of understandable. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision, coupled with low expectations of actually getting the job because it was just too good to be true. Besides, if she didn’t tell him, it wasn’t real. With that kind of set-up, Deceptive Practices promised loads of entertainment for me as the reader and even more spankings for Nancy as the TiH once her deception was uncovered because there was no way she could move her non-spanko husband to a spanking community without incident.

It’s clear from the opening that while Nancy loves her job, some days it takes a serious toll on her emotionally. As she works primarily evening and night shifts, she doesn’t get to spend as much time with her husband as she would like and even less with their daughter. When you add in her desire for a DD relationship, it’s understandable why the idea of moving to Corbin’s Bend was so attractive. Once we learn that Sebastian defers to Nancy on all decisions that affect her career, it wasn’t really surprising that she pursued the employment opportunity without consulting her husband. While she told Sebastian about the job, the small-town community, the schools, and the housing co-op, she failed to mention a teensy, tiny detail … that Corbin’s Bend is a spanking community. Now anyone who has ever read any romance knows there is no way that will play out in her favor. But Nancy compounded the situation by not telling Sebastian about Corbin’s Bend during their three-day cross-country drive. Nor did she tell him once they arrived. Nope, Sebastian found out from Brent and Jonathan. Not surprisingly, Sebastian was not a happy husband once he learned about his wife’s lies – nor was Brent a happy Housing Board President. But what made that whole scene so entertaining, was that once Sebastian dealt with his anger and embarrassment, he started asking questions about a DD relationship because he acknowledged that if Nancy was willing to go to such lengths to make DD a part of their life, then she must really need it. That he found himself itching to dole out a bit of punishment for her lies and deception was merely icing on the cake. Oh yes, she definitely earned that spanking. And I had to confess that I found myself chuckling at her surprise at how much worse a punishment spanking was versus the erotic spankings she had received.

As both Nancy and Sebastian were new to DD, there were plenty of growing pains to be experienced. We not only got to see Nancy flourish in the DD relationship as well as at work, but we also got to see Sebastian grow into his position as Head of Household (HoH). And Marks finally provided me the context within which to understand the concept of and purpose behind Maintenance Spanking. I’ve never really understood it before and what the point of it was, but as it was presented in Sebastian and Nancy’s relationship I finally got it. I also enjoyed that we got to see Traci and Sean as they served as Nancy and Sebastian’s mentors and again found myself chuckling when Nancy learned just how much the HoHs shared with one another. I loved the ending and how despite getting her family there under false pretenses, Nancy’s decision to uproot them all to Corbin’s Bend ended up being the best thing for all of them – both professionally and as a family. Deceptive Practices was another enjoyable addition to the Corbin’s Bend franchise and I’m looking forward to the next installment.
