Finding Mr. Wrong by Charlie Cochet

He’s nobody’s definition of Mr. Right—but that might make him perfect.

Matthew Hart is heir to the family fortune and owner of Hart & Home. When a near-death experience has him fretting over the future, he decides he needs a husband, and not just any husband—an appropriate man to protect the Hart legacy. The last thing Matthew expects is to cross paths with Jax Foster, his first love and the boy who crushed his heart when he disappeared.

Jax is unlikely to make Matthew’s list of suitable candidates. Bad boy, vagabond, deep in debt, with a father who can’t keep out of trouble, Jax has nothing to offer—except his heart and a second chance at the romance they never got to explore.

I really enjoyed this book. You have two boys who were best friends as kids, experimented, fell in love, and were torn apart. This book had a little bit of angst and a lot of love. Matthew and Jax are from different walks of life but that has never been an issue with Matthew, he has always loved Jax. When they unexpectedly reconnect after several years, you could tell that things were gonna start flying. Matthew's assistant, Adam, and Matthew's father find Jax after Matthew tells Adam he thinks he wants a man for keeps. There is no denying there is chemistry between Jax and Matthew. I love how they each thought of the other over the years and kept mementos, and I loved that Jax still remembered about the lemon cake. This was a sweet love story with a little angst at the end, but it was all worth it. Great story.

Little bit classic fairy tale, little bit daytime soap opera – this book plays with familiar romance tropes for a fun, exciting story.

Matthew is another implausibly young, successful, and wealthy billionaire. Beset by scheming family members and supported by his loyal employees, Matthew sets out to find a husband and make an heir so his company doesn’t fall into the hands of his villainous cousin (yes – I did say this was a soap opera). Matthew is likeable and heroic but the character development is pretty superficial and he never really becomes more than a sexy ideal.

Jax is a talented and undervalued artist struggling to make ends meet. Since childhood, every attempt to succeed was thwarted by his father’s gambling addiction. Jax is also the scholarship kid Matthew fell in love with as a schoolboy. Again, Jax is sexy as hell but he doesn’t really develop beyond his hard luck story or his role as Matthew’s ill judged ‘bit of rough.’ Jax is a little more proactive than Cinderella, his past isn’t quite as sordid as Vivian’s, and he is definitely not as innocent as poor Anastasia, but we’ve seen his character more than a few times in the world of romance.

The relationship between Jax and Matthew is pretty formulaic, but they are sweet together and the chemistry between them is pretty hot.

I think this is Charlie Cochet’s attempt at light and fluffy. Even so, she has added a little attempted murder, an exciting kidnapping, and a bit of a mob connection. And this is a little bit sexier than most of the Dreamspun Desires books. There are also a few wonderful moments where the traditional romance formula slips and we get some of the sarcastic banter I love in Cochet’s THIRDS books. As Cochet’s THIRDS books are a little more my style than the Desires books, I loved the slight genre subversions and the hints of personality beyond the formulaic storytelling. However, I do think fans of classic romance will love Matthew and Jax.

Bringing you stories with heroes, humor, and heart.

Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters, to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance, too!

Currently residing in Central Florida, Charlie is at the beck and call of a rascally Doxiepoo bent on world domination. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found reading, drawing, or watching movies. She runs on coffee, thrives on music, and loves to hear from readers.

  1. I like the Mr Wrong concept in books, in real life I rather have Mr. Right... or going solo, which is better sometimes. ;)
