The Prince and His Bedeviled Bodyguard by Charlie Cochet Audiobook Tour

Prince Owin

Being a fierce predator – not at all adorable, despite my graceful stature – the last thing I needed was a bodyguard. Especially a wolf shifter, whose presence alone was an insult to my princely principles.

As prince of the Ocelot Shifters, I prided myself on my infallible feline instincts, uncompromising dignity, and flawless fashion sense. If having a canine follow me around at all times wasn’t bad enough, I now faced the most important moment of my entire life.

The time had come to prove I was worthy of my crown. If only I could find a way to get rid of the pesky bodyguard.

Grimmwolf

When the king of All Shifters asked me to guard Prince Owin, I admit I had no idea what to expect. Cat shifters tend to be a little intense, not to mention kinda cranky. Owin was no exception, though he seemed crankier than most.

Being his bodyguard was proving to be one of the greatest challenges of my life, but not nearly as great as convincing him there was something special between us.

When Owin was tasked with a perilous quest to prove his worth, I was determined to keep him safe, even if the same couldn’t be said of my heart.

“What the—” Grimm dropped the orb, and we both jumped back. To my utter disbelief, it spread upward and sideways until it was roughly the size of a large doorway, a forest appearing inside. “Hmm. What do you know? A portal that will take us where we want to go.”

How cross would the king be with me if I accidentally pushed Grimm off a cliff? Or left him with the Cù Sìth? Not like he didn’t have plenty of wolf shifters. What was one less in the grand scheme of things?

Grimm narrowed his eyes at me. “You’re not leaving me behind.”

How did he do that? “Are you sure you’re not a seer wolf?”

Grimm didn’t look impressed. “You’re right. I’m a seer. My curse is that I’m limited to visions of you being a jerk.”

I opened my mouth to respond, then thought better of it. “Can we just go?”

“As you wish, Your Highness.” He bowed and motioned for me to go ahead. Clearly, he thought I was an idiot.

“What if it’s a trap and I step through and burst into flames? You go first.”

“Your generosity knows no bounds, my liege. Fine. I’ll go first, but if I meet my demise, my blood is on your hands.”

I shrugged. “I’ll get over it.”

“So mean.” He shook his head at me and stepped through. On the other side, he turned and held his arms out. “See? All good. Wait…” He gasped and clutched at his chest. “What’s happening to me? It burns!”

“Grimm?” My heart lurched in my chest, and I stepped up to the portal.

“I can’t,” he gasped, falling to his knees. “I can’t…”

“Can’t what!” Oh my Goddess, oh my Goddess. I never expected him to actually burst into flames! I flailed around feeling utterly helpless. “What do I do? Is it flames? Are you bursting into flames?” I frantically looked around. “I don’t see a fire extinguisher!” Not that I knew how to use one. I’d just have to toss it at him and hope he could do it himself.

“I can’t…” He gasped for breath. “I can’t… believe you fell for that,” he said with a laugh.

“I’m going to kill you!” I darted into the portal, ignoring his laughter as he took off, his long legs putting him out of my reach in a heartbeat. “I hate you!”

“Admit it! You were worried about me,” he called out from across the field.

“Worried you’d die and I wouldn’t be able to pry the magic purse off your cold, dead, dog-smelling corpse!”

“It’s a satchel!”

Adorable. The word is bandied about quite a bit in the story in reference to Prince Owin, but I think it’s a rather apt descriptor for the entire story. Yes, there’s plenty of action and a good bit of suspense as Prince Owin undertakes his quest in order to prove he is fit to rule his people, the ocelot shifters. And I cannot discount the steam factor as Owin comes to realize that he feels far more than the dislike and feigned disdain he heaps upon his wolf shifter bodyguard, Grimm. But Cochet balances all that out with just the right amount of humor and several laugh-out-loud moments woven throughout the story in such a way that I couldn't help but find The Prince and His Bedeviled Bodyguard to be an adorable and delightful listen.

I jumped at the chance to listen to and review The Prince and His Bedeviled Bodyguard without actually reading the description simply because I love Cochet’s writing and Boudreaux’s narration. As such, I had no expectations of the story because I didn’t know much beyond the title and the audio sample, but my faith in the author and narrator was well placed. Not only did Cochet pen an absolutely adorable story of an ocelot shifter prince finding love, Boudreaux perfectly captured both the affection King Alarick and Grimm feel for Owin, as well as the snarky insecurity and huge heart that makes Owin deserving of said affection.

I’m keeping my review shorter than normal because I don’t wish to go into any of Owin and Grimm’s tasks, but I absolutely must say that I cannot wait for the next installment because not only am I looking forward to the next prince’s quest, but I really, really need to know if King Alarick is going to wake up to Jean’s devotion to him. I KNOW there’s something there and I’m looking forward to their story being slowly unveiled over the course of each prince’s story – at least I’m assuming the series will culminate with the king finding the love he’s so intent on his “children” finding.

This is Austen's story and it didn't disappoint! I love how Austen has been able to keep tabs on Ozzy (or Z) despite believing that he, himself, is not good enough for him. Austen has been living his life on the edge for so long that he isn't sure if he can ever really live a true and normal, happy life.

Ozzy is one of the many Zachary brothers who are part of the THIRDS squad. When an assignment goes a little sideways, Ozzy is hurt. Despite all of his family surrounding him, when he sees that Austen has come to him and wants to protect him, he can't help but fall more in love.

Z and Austen have a chemistry that simmers just below the surface. They know that they belong together, but with Austen's past and Ozzy not willing to push too hard, they kind of dance around each other until they can't any more.

I loved the relationship that you got to see develop in this story. Austen is still wary of his past and how it could determine his future, but he's also willing to take a risk. Their love is so genuine. I do wish that the resolution maybe wasn't so tidy. It seemed a little abrupt too. But, overall, I loved it.

I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

I just loved this book. I have always wanted to know more about Austen and for him to have his own book. I still feel like there is more to learn about him, but I loved what I saw. Zach is just a huge teddy bear and you can't help but love him instantly. These two have been yearning for each other for years and when Zach gets hurt, Austen is there in a heartbeat. The love these two share is so sweet. I love how patient and caring Zach is. This book gave me the feels and I can't wait to see whose story is next. I really hope Brayden gets a book; I love him and his honesty with Zach just made me love him more. Great addition to the THIRDS world.

After ten books, this is the last adventure for Destructive Delta and the last time Dex and Sloane will work together before their wedding and their move to TINS. Over the course of this series, I’ve grown attached to the whole team and their many friends.

While some of the most recent books seemed a bit like fillers, this final story reminded me why I fell in love with the THIRDS series in the first place. Like the best books in the series, it is full of action, humour, and romance. The focus is back on Dex and Sloane as their wedding inches closer and I love the way their relationship has developed over the course of the series.

For the first time in a few books, I love that the action actually drives this story. While the overarching storyline has been building across several books, much of the actual story in this book feels self-contained. The story has a clear focus, which makes it a more exciting read than some of the recent books. (Whew. I think I managed that without spoilers!)

This feels like goodbye. From the start, the members of Destructive Delta know that their time together as a team is nearly over. There are some really touching moments as characters and relationships struggle to readjust. It’s a pretty special goodbye and it does the series and the characters justice. However, I’m still holding onto the hope that we may see a little more of Dex and Sloane in their new careers. I’ve loved this series from the start and I don’t think I can bear to let these characters go just yet.

This is a great story. It has a ton of action and there are a lot of things that are revealed. I enjoyed the banter, as always with these characters and really liked that we were able to learn more about the secondary characters and other relationships in the story.

Dex and Sloane are getting ready to walk down the aisle, but there are people vying to destroy the happiness that they have started and will stop at nothing to take down TINS and the people who are part of the organization.

There is so much going on and the stories all kind of culminate in this one. I don't want to write too much because it will give the story away, but this feels like the end and there could be some good spin off material in this one too.

I remember when I read the first book in this series that I thought the book was too wordy. Who knew that 10 books later, I would be begging for more words. This book was amazing. I didn't want it to end. So much happened, we learned a lot and we once again have questions that need answers. One thing is for sure, Dex and Sloane are one of my all-time favorite couples. These two just melt my heart in so many ways. Simply an amazing addition to the series. This group of characters shows what true friends and family really is. Love, love, love!!!

Gummy Bears & Grenades by Charlie Cochet

THIRDS agent Dexter J. Daley can’t wait to marry his fiancé, Team Leader Sloane Brodie, but first he’s looking forward to celebrating his bachelor party—which he intends to be a shenanigans-free evening of getting his groove on with family and friends.

Of course events don’t work out as planned, but for Dex that’s nothing new. One thing is for sure, dodging drug dealers and hired thugs amid booze, dancing—and even a bear costume—will guarantee it’s a night Dex will never forget. Now he just needs to survive all the fun.

Enjoy this bonus story from the THIRDS universe. These events occur between Darkest Hour Before Dawn and Tried & True in the series timeline. While reading this story would enhance your experience of the THIRDS series, it is not essential to read before Tried & True.

This was a short story about Dex's bachelor party. Holy crap was this everything you would hope it would be and more. The private dance was so flipping hot I needed to shower afterwards! I have loved Dex and Sloane from the start and I grow to love them more with each passing book. There was buildup for what is to come in the next book and I am already on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. This was a fun, fast-paced book filled with laughter, sex, and, of course, a little drama.

I love these characters. Sloane and Dex are a great couple and they are allowing their friends to plan and throw a bachelor party for Dex. All of their friends grab Dex and head out for a night of laughter, drunkenness, and crime fighting.

You get to see hilarity at the antics of the friends, see crime fighting action with the always intriguing Wolf around, and then you get to see just Dex and Sloane, happy in their relationship.

I can't wait to see more of all of these characters!

Sarah☆☆☆☆

This is one of the sillier books in this series. It’s a novella about Dex’s bachelor party – which was always going to be an unconventional one.

We get snippets of the bigger story in this novella and we get to catch up with the huge cast of THIRDS characters we know from earlier books in the series. There are too many characters to catch up with properly at this point in the series, so many characters are mentioned or introduced and promptly forgotten. There are constant teasers about Dex and Sloane’s future in TINS, but no actual development of that storyline.

There are some exciting scenes in this novella. Somehow, Dex manages to spend part of his bachelor party chasing baddies and, as always, things go from bad to comically worse in the process.

As always, Dex and Sloane can’t keep their hands off of each other. There are some steamy scenes and one very memorable bachelor party striptease in this short story.

This is a short, catch up with familiar characters. It isn’t my favourite story in the series but it was a fun read.

Rachael☆☆☆☆☆
I loved this story. It's Dex's bachelor party and of course, you know there is going to be shenanigans. I love the little peeks we got to see of all our favorite characters as well as some others. Just like all the other books in this series, there are some super hot, sexy times as well as serious, life threatening times.

I have to say this story made me really want to know more about Wolf. I mean how could I not want to know a psychopath who is sexy and kills without misplacing a single hair on his British head or breaking a sweat.

I'd say this is one of the funnier stories in the series, but that's to be expected any time we are following Dex around. That man is always getting into trouble and this time is no different, but we see that he is also adapting to his new abilities.

Can't wait for more!

Finding Mr. Wrong by Charlie Cochet

He’s nobody’s definition of Mr. Right—but that might make him perfect.

Matthew Hart is heir to the family fortune and owner of Hart & Home. When a near-death experience has him fretting over the future, he decides he needs a husband, and not just any husband—an appropriate man to protect the Hart legacy. The last thing Matthew expects is to cross paths with Jax Foster, his first love and the boy who crushed his heart when he disappeared.

Jax is unlikely to make Matthew’s list of suitable candidates. Bad boy, vagabond, deep in debt, with a father who can’t keep out of trouble, Jax has nothing to offer—except his heart and a second chance at the romance they never got to explore.

I really enjoyed this book. You have two boys who were best friends as kids, experimented, fell in love, and were torn apart. This book had a little bit of angst and a lot of love. Matthew and Jax are from different walks of life but that has never been an issue with Matthew, he has always loved Jax. When they unexpectedly reconnect after several years, you could tell that things were gonna start flying. Matthew's assistant, Adam, and Matthew's father find Jax after Matthew tells Adam he thinks he wants a man for keeps. There is no denying there is chemistry between Jax and Matthew. I love how they each thought of the other over the years and kept mementos, and I loved that Jax still remembered about the lemon cake. This was a sweet love story with a little angst at the end, but it was all worth it. Great story.

Sarah☆☆☆☆
Little bit classic fairy tale, little bit daytime soap opera – this book plays with familiar romance tropes for a fun, exciting story.

Matthew is another implausibly young, successful, and wealthy billionaire. Beset by scheming family members and supported by his loyal employees, Matthew sets out to find a husband and make an heir so his company doesn’t fall into the hands of his villainous cousin (yes – I did say this was a soap opera). Matthew is likeable and heroic but the character development is pretty superficial and he never really becomes more than a sexy ideal.

Jax is a talented and undervalued artist struggling to make ends meet. Since childhood, every attempt to succeed was thwarted by his father’s gambling addiction. Jax is also the scholarship kid Matthew fell in love with as a schoolboy. Again, Jax is sexy as hell but he doesn’t really develop beyond his hard luck story or his role as Matthew’s ill judged ‘bit of rough.’ Jax is a little more proactive than Cinderella, his past isn’t quite as sordid as Vivian’s, and he is definitely not as innocent as poor Anastasia, but we’ve seen his character more than a few times in the world of romance.

The relationship between Jax and Matthew is pretty formulaic, but they are sweet together and the chemistry between them is pretty hot.

I think this is Charlie Cochet’s attempt at light and fluffy. Even so, she has added a little attempted murder, an exciting kidnapping, and a bit of a mob connection. And this is a little bit sexier than most of the Dreamspun Desires books. There are also a few wonderful moments where the traditional romance formula slips and we get some of the sarcastic banter I love in Cochet’s THIRDS books. As Cochet’s THIRDS books are a little more my style than the Desires books, I loved the slight genre subversions and the hints of personality beyond the formulaic storytelling. However, I do think fans of classic romance will love Matthew and Jax.

Darkest Hour Before Dawn by Charlie Cochet

THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are as much in love now as they were nearly seven years ago when a tragic event on the job destroyed their relationship. The two drift together only to be pulled apart time and time again. When Hudson draws the interest of dangerous enemies, both within and outside the organization, Seb wants nothing more than to protect the man who still means everything to him.

As life and death events, an uncertain future, and startling truths draw Hudson and Seb to each other yet again, they must make a choice: trust their love and take strength from what they share, or lose what matters most for good this time.

Hudson and Sebastian have been dancing around each other for years. Despite them being a mated pair, when a past tragedy hits the team, Hudson knows that Sebastian and he cannot be together any longer.

Then there is a new agent who is supposedly joining their crew, but things are not going as planned. Despite his newness, Trent is trying to make a good impression. He rubs Sebastian the wrong way, but Trent's interest is more in Hudson. Because Sebastian and Hudson are mated, they can feel each other's emotions and when Hudson is targeted, brutalized, he runs right back to Sebastian.

Sebastian takes care of Hudson and Trent all in one take. There is also a mystery agent who keeps sweeping in to help when the agents need it. I really hope that we get to see more of this new agent in the upcoming stories.

In the end, Sebastian and Hudson have to figure out if their bond is enough to pull them back together.

I really like this group of characters and feel that the development of the stories is fantastic!

Angie☆☆☆☆☆
Oh, I was so excited to see this story was about Hudson and Sebastian! These two have been in previous books and we know they still love each other, but a tragic event pulled them apart. We see characters from previous books and some of their storylines continue in this book, this book is by no means a standalone book. I just loved this book, I didn’t want to put it down because I wanted to read it as fast as I could, but then I found myself putting the book down because I didn’t want it to end and I was trying to make it last as long as I could. I don’t want to give away any of the book, but we have laughs (you know Dex always makes everyone laugh), we have tears, tender heart moments, and then angst and tension. I know this story is about Hudson and Seb, but man, I love Dex more and more with each book too! You feel so much love and chemistry in this book you just want everything to be okay. There are twists and turns in the road ahead it seems, but I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Characters: Well written
Sex: Oh yeah!
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: M/M Paranormal Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

I feel like I’ve waited forever for this story! This is finally Seb and Hudson’s story and we finally learn about the long history between these two marked mates. Oh – and we finally learn the identity of the elusive Wolfe.

Seb’s background has been teased out through the series – especially in his brother Ethan’s story. Here, Hudson’s past is finally revealed. Honestly, I was more than a little disappointed. To a British reader, Hudson’s English past doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and his speech is a garbled mash up of vocabulary from all corners and classes of the United Kingdom.

I enjoyed Seb and Hudson together. I love second chance romances and the angst, longing, and tension between these two is fabulous. I was hoping for a slightly more dramatic reason for their separation, but the drama, guilt, and chemistry between these two makes for a very satisfying and very sexy romance.

There isn’t quite as much action in this story as I’ve come to expect from this series. Like book eight, this feels like a stopgap between the first story arc and the TINS story arc that keeps being hinted at and prepared for. There are some exciting scenes here and I loved the explosive ending and the shocking revelation that ends the story.

I loved the action and the romance in this story. I loved catching up with my favourite THIRDS characters and I loved the revelations at the end. I just wish more time had been spent making Hudson a believable Englishman.

Even though this was a very short book, it was jammed packed with story. Things are changing, everything is changing, and we all know that not everyone likes change. At times throughout this entire series I have mentioned that there is sometimes not enough dialogue and too much detail, and this book, at times, has that again, but I overlook that because everything else is sooo good. Dex and Sloane just make my heart melt, and Ash is fast becoming a favorite of mine. This little teaser book was great and I can’t wait for the next installment to see what happens next.

Characters: Well written
Sex: Ohhhh yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: M/M Paranormal Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

Dex is starting to realize that there is a lot of adjustment that needs to be done now that he has different abilities. He is trying to make everyone around him happy, but also trying to hide his abilities from his teammates too – he's nervous how they will react.

Then you have Sloane. He loves Dex with all that he is. Without hesitation, he follows Dex down what they both know to be a rabbit hole. The twist is that the team has to hear that Dex and Sloane are jumping ship accidentally – or at least without intention to tell them when it all came crashing out.

This was a short book and, while it was packed with a lot, there are still a lot of unanswered questions. The chemistry between Dex and Sloane is still hot and I can't wait to see what will come next.

Huh? I was so excited for this story after the revelation at the end of book seven but I kinda thought my Kindle was broken when I hit the end of this very short story without anything actually really happening.

This series has become an autobuy for me, so I will admit that I didn’t read the blurb or check the page count before requesting it. However, this really should have been part of book seven or marketed obviously as a stop-gap 7.5. There was clarification of the revelation/choice made at the end of book seven, but the series doesn’t really move forward here.

I’ve been a fan from the start, but I’m growing a little bit weary of Dex and Sloane. Each of the last few books has brought hints of new couples (I seriously want to read Seb’s book!) but keeps revisiting the same characters. Book nine will really need to impress me with something exciting and new if I’m going to remain loyal to a series that I absolutely loved for the first few books.

I know that fans like me will blindly autobuy this book, but it can definitely be skipped. I am really hoping that the next story delivers and actually introduces something new into the series. The author has opened up many new possibilities for the THIRDS books and I’m hoping for a return to the magical combination of humour, violence, suspense, and sex that drew me to this series in the beginning.

This is just hilarious! This one was much more comedic than the first one. I liked seeing the snippets of the story and felt that they were longer, more developed, and stronger than the first volume.

These were witty, endearing, happy, serious, and sometimes dangerous.

I would recommend these to anyone who wants to see more within the story – it gives a different perspective and insight.
