Temporary by Sarina Bowen & Sarah Mayberry

The most beautiful man I've ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything.

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful – pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works--if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can't afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo...

Grace is just trying to make enough money to help support her teenage sister, Olivia. They both share the unfortunate parentage of a mom who would rather do drugs and drink than take interest in her children. Grace is practical – she knows that in order to continue having Olivia stay with her, she needs a decent job. While working for a temporary agency, she meets Callan, a hot Australian who knows how to party and keeps his true self hidden.

Callan is a playboy on the surface but a humanitarian to his core. His only true relationship was with Jack, his uncle. When Jack dies unexpectedly, he rushes to Jack's estate to make sure that his horrible mother, Vicki, can't erase her brother from the earth. Callan runs into Grace and while cleaning out Jack's apartment with Grace, under the guise that he's helping, finds the one things that he set out to find.

In the midst of the relationship that blooms between Callan and Grace, despite knowing that she shouldn't, Grace takes time to be selfish. In that process, she may lose the only things that she knows and loves. Callan's immediate jump to Grace's defense is sweet and endearing.

I can't wait to see what Claire's story will bring, but I can only hope that Vicki suffers greatly in it.

Lee’Anne☆☆☆☆
I really enjoyed this book and one of my favorite parts was the originality of the plotline. Callan Walker has major family issues, his mom is an evil witch and when his uncle, the man who was like a father to him, passes away, Callan’s mother is named executor of the estate. His mother hires Grace, a temporary employee of her company who happens to have studied art, to go through her brother’s extensive art collection and auction everything off. When Callan finds out about his uncle’s passing, he heads straight for his New York home in the hopes of finding a newer will naming himself as executor. When Grace and Callan meet, they immediately butt heads, both making inaccurate assumptions of the other. Once the two actually start to get to know one another, the attraction intensifies and feelings start being developed. Grace, having to care for her younger sister after her parents ran off, can’t afford to get involved with Callan and risk losing her job. Things get really complicated, really fast.

This story has an intense storyline that will have you unable to put it down. I was surprised to realize that this book is actually written by two authors, it has a great flow and is done very well! I loved all the characters and the authors did a great job conveying how evil Callan’s mother is. I think my favorite character had to be Grace’s sister though, she’s an absolute trip! I look forward to more from both of these authors!

Sarah Mayberry

Sarah Mayberry lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her partner of nearly twenty years (who has recently become her husband!). When she's not in her pajamas eating peanut butter sandwiches and typing away madly on her latest story, she enjoys reading, cooking, sleeping, pilates, going to the movies and shopping. Not necessarily in that order!

Some of Sarah's favorite authors are Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, Karina Bliss, Mary Balogh, Julie James, Sherry Thomas, Meredith Duran, and Loretta Chase. Her favorite movie is When Harry Met Sally, although she is also very fond of His Girl Friday and Something About Mary.
