Forget Me Not by Willow Winters

I fell in love with a boy a long time ago.

I was only a small girl. Scared and frightened, I was taken from my home and held against my will. His father hurt me, but he protected me and kept me safe as best he could.

Until I left him.

I ran the first chance I got and even though I knew he wasn’t behind me, I didn’t stop. The branches lashed out at me, punishing me for leaving him in the hands of a monster.

I’ve never felt such guilt in my life.

Although I survived, the boy was never found. I prayed for him to be safe. I dreamed he’d be alright and come back to me. Even as a young girl I knew I loved him, but I betrayed him.

Twenty years later, all my wishes came true.

But the boy came back a man. With a grip strong enough to keep me close and a look in his eyes that warned me to never dare leave him again. I was his to keep after all.

Twenty years after leaving one hell, I entered another. Our tale was only just getting started.

It’s dark and twisted.

But that doesn’t make it any less of what it is.

A love story. Our love story.

Robin is surviving, but not living. She is constantly at war with herself, her past, and in trying to do good for others' future. She recalls a horrible yet defining experience in her childhood with flashbacks and as the reader, you can't help but hold your breath.

Jay is kind of scary, but he is also someone you know has a past that could break anyone else. You can see his strength in his character and you can also see the fear and loathing that he also holds near his chest.

John is the even-keeled character. He knows right from wrong and he also knows that he is the only friend that Jay has. They met when they were young and never really found anyone else.

While I knew early on where this book was heading and who the characters were becoming, it was still a good read that left you wanting to know more about them.

The story has a narrow focus. As a child Robin was kidnapped and held captive with a boy named Jay. Both all grown up, Jay has kidnapped Robin and with the help of his friend John, is keeping her as a way to heal both her and himself. And that is pretty much it in a nutshell.

Forget Me Not is one of those books that has lots of words on the page and very little actually happening. There is not much in the way of character development or depth either. The mystery of what happened in their past, what was happening now, and why John would involve himself in his friend's crime kept me reading. The problem was, once I figured out what has going on I lost interest and had to push myself to finish the story. Forget Me Not was not for me.

Willow Winters is a new to me author.

The blurb totally pulled me in on this one. I couldn't wait to read Forget Me Not. I was immediately sucked in, but somewhere along the way I figured out the plot twist and was left with a story that was barely holding my attention. The chemistry just didn't seem to be there, for me. I had questions come up that were never answered. I don't know if this was on purpose for the reader to assume or just that information wasn't important.

I definitely was left wanting more.

Willow Winters is so happy to be a USA Today, Wall Street Journal and #1 Contemporary Bestselling Romance Author. She likes her action hot and her bad boys hotter. She certainly doesn’t hold back on either one in her writing!

Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!
