Artifacts by Bailey Bradford Release Blitz

Artifacts by Bailey Bradford Release Blitz. He never expected to find his life—or his heart—in danger…

Aldric Beamer thought working in an antique shop would be safe and boring. He never expected to find his life—or his heart—in danger…

Being the low man on the totem pole is nothing new for Aldric Beamer. The youngest of three siblings, he was always the afterthought in his family, but Aldric’s trying hard not to let the little confidence he has sink any lower.

Aldric loves the job he manages to land at Intrinsic Value, so much so that he often works off the clock—or maybe he just doesn’t want to go home to his empty apartment. Just as he’s slowly learning to trust his boss and co-workers, he’s attacked outside the store, and all the security he thought he had vanishes with the force of a blow to the head.

San Antonio cop Darrell Williams takes one look at the beautiful, bruised man he finds in a dingy alley behind an antique store, and something in his heart melts. This weakness scares him, making Darrell gruff and indifferent when he should have been—and longs to be—compassionate and caring.

Aldric’s no pushover, though. He’s had enough of being ignored and treated like he doesn’t matter as much as everyone else. And he’ll make damn sure Patrol Officer Williams doesn’t dismiss him, in any way…

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of violence and assault. There are expressions of homophobia by several characters, mentions of non-nurturing parenting, references to addiction and a scene of attempted abduction.

Veronica – ☆☆☆
Aldric, with little money and in need of a job, sees a job advertised in the window of an antique shop. Elliot, the owner, hires him and takes him under his wing. Aldric is injured in an attempted robbery and meets cop Darrell and after an initially bad meeting, romance follows.

This book had some good points. I loved Elliot and seeing a business owner take on a young man to give him work and teach him. It was sweet. Elliot is such an upstanding guy it almost felt like he was from another era. I also really liked Aldric. Life wasn’t always good to him, but he kept on going and trying and I loved that about him. I liked that Darrell and Elliot had a bit of a struggle to get their acts together so they could be together.

I did have a few issues. There were a few story arcs that started to be explored but didn’t really end up being developed. In particular, early on in the story we see Aldric struggling financially and then he meets Darrell, and it is never mentioned again. I found this odd. It almost felt like bits of the story were missing. Also, it took me a while to warm up to Darrell and even in the end, I only liked him because Aldric did.

Overall, Artifacts was enjoyable, and I like the mix of danger, mystery, and romance the story offered, I just would have liked to have seen the story developed a bit more. Three stars from me.

Mr. June by Bailey Bradford

Ilias Hayes is coming to believe that there is truth to the saying ‘no good deed goes unpunished.’

Ilias Hayes was flattered when he was asked to pose in a charity calendar shoot. He was even more thrilled to participate when Perry invited his boyfriend, Terry, to pose with Ilias. Being one of the couples in the calendar would cement their relationship.

Except it doesn’t. Terry dumps him, and Ilias realizes just how warped that relationship was. He plans to focus on his career with San Antonio Police Department and work out why he stayed with someone who treated him so badly.

But a call from dispatch about a fight at a doctor’s office brings a very interesting, opinionated man into Ilias’ life. He isn’t sure if Doctor Torres is flirting or not, but Ilias wants to find out—if he can get past his own fears and escape someone who wants Ilias for themselves.

This is the sixth book in the series, and there is a thread running through all the books, although this could stand alone too.

Ilias has finally realised that his boyfriend is not a good guy and taken the unusual step of standing up for himself. As he is a bear shifter, this might seem a bit of a surprise, but he has a gentle and giving nature. Luckily, he meets Henry, a doctor, when he is called out to a suspected robbery at Dr. Torres’ clinic. The two men have a clear attraction and Henry has a willingness to give and take, which is a revelation to Ilias.

This is a sweet novella with a lovely couple finding each other under difficult circumstances and making a change for the better.

Mr. May by Bailey Bradford

Derrick Tovar thought posing for a calendar would be the most adventurous thing he’d ever do—boy, was he wrong!

Derrick Tovar has always played it safe. He had a secure job, a retirement plan, five- and ten-year goals… When he agreed to pose in skimpy clothing for a charity calendar, he figured that was one daring, out-of-character thing for him to do. It wasn’t that big a risk, really.

Except it almost got him killed.

He’s having a little trouble dealing with that, but he soon meets a man who makes him want to dream big and take chances.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the fifth book in the series, and there are references to earlier books, but you could definitely enjoy it as a standalone – and then maybe go back and read the others.

One of the calendar models who was seriously affected by the poisoning incident, Derrick is glad to be back to his well-ordered life... until a hot dog vendor entices him to break some more rules. This fun mix of two people with very different outlooks on life is very enjoyable, and the shifter element has a dual purpose of bringing out Derrick's more playful nature and scenting his possible ill health.

As sexy as many of Bailey Bradford's stories, but with a rather lovely, caring side to the passion and intensity as well. I really enjoyed this installment.

Mr. April by Bailey Bradford

Will is certain there’s truth to the phrase that no good deed goes unpunished.

William Blunt thought posing for a charity calendar would be fun. Instead, it’s kind of tedious and stressful, and his boyfriend begins to display some alarmingly jealous behavior. Once the shoot is over—again—he’s ready to move on to other things, one of which is, eventually, a healthier relationship.

Breaking up isn’t hard to do, and Will vows to learn from his past dating disasters. What he doesn’t count on is meeting a man whose smile turns his world upside down. Baz is gorgeous, but more than that, he’s intriguing and funny, and he seems to be as interested in Will as Will is in him.

But all is not smooth sailing, and a murder complicates the personal issues both men are already struggling with.

M/M Romance

Will is finally done with the calendar – thankfully. It took much longer than anticipated, but also showed Will how a true relationship, a healthy relationship, should look. He has had it with his over-possessive, paranoid boyfriend. When push comes to shove, Will shoves without mercy. He's done.

On a whim, he goes out and meets Baz. Baz is flirty, funny, and sexy. He also has a great personality and knows that sometimes, even without looking, you can find your true love. However, Baz also knows what love can do – he lost his mom to love.

Overall, this was a sweet story with a twist in the mystery of why all of the men who have participated in the calendar have not great luck in love. While the characters do shift into their animals, I wouldn't necessarily qualify this story as a shifter story. It was a quick, easy read.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆
This the fourth book in the series, and it would definitely help the reader to have read the previous books. I have to admit that even though I have, the shifter element surprised me again.

Will, having completed his model duties for the calendar, finds that he may have found a new love, but having just been burned, and after the other disasters which befell the calendar crew, he is skeptical. Baz is excited at meeting Will, but also concerned given he is a swan shifter and they tend to fall in love only once.

They are a fun couple though, and I enjoyed their romancing of each other, even if it is unconventional. I did, however, find the dramatic twist a little strange, even if it got us to where the story needed to be.

Sarah – ☆☆☆
The romance between Baz and Will is very sweet in this story. But the rest of the book left me a little bewildered with a few too many WTF moments.

I kinda like the idea of swan shifters but there is very little world building or explanation of the shifter elements of this story. A murder investigation pops up near the end and thoroughly complicates the book. And the characters: the ex-boyfriend, the neighbour, the uncle, the lonely colleague… Too many characters are introduced before either changing dramatically or dominating a couple of scenes before disappearing.

Because there is so much going on, there is little room for character development. Even Baz and Will feel like sketches and minor characters like ex-boyfriend Geoffrey remain cliché types.

There is some heat between Baz and Will and the book probably does work better as erotica than it does as romance. But again, there is too much going on in the story and even the erotic scenes could be developed further.

Mr. March by Bailey Bradford

Curiosity didn’t kill this cat…

Jason Eddings is a foreman for a construction company by day and a mountain lion at night. He got suckered into doing a calendar shoot. Little did he know that his sisters, Cindy and Anne, were hoping to set him up with Gregg, another man on the calendar shoot. That never happened, because Gregg met Albert.

Jason’s posing for Mr. March, working and running from some memories, and maybe even himself. One night, he runs right into a tranquilizer dart. When he wakes up at a wildlife refuge, he finds himself intrigued by the veterinarian who is watching him.

Casey’s a newly graduated veterinarian. He thought there was something special about the mountain lion, but he didn’t have a clue how much his life was about to change.

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/M Shifter Romance

Casey is a young vet who is trying to figure out how to pay his loans, love his job, and keep afloat in a market where being a vet isn't paying what it should. When he finds himself confronted with a mystery at the refuge where he works, he can't help but jump in feet first. He knows a shifter when he sees one and doesn't quite understand what's going on at his refuge – he just knows that the other men who work there seem to have an issue with his diagnosis.

Jason is a shifter who is a mountain lion. While running on his own property, he is tranquilized and brought to a refuge. When he wakes up, he knows this is not where he's supposed to be. He doesn't know how he arrived. The kind eyes that he sees are the only thing that keeps him from attacking.

The true mystery lies in how those other men were able to access Jason's property. How and why were they there and what did they want with him? This had a much better storyline within the romance – the mystery was good. For me, it kept the book interesting. I thought that the romance and chemistry was just okay. Overall, the mystery was great and I wish that we had more of that.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in the series, and whilst it follows on and runs alongside February's story, you could read this as a very satisfying standalone too. It does lead really nicely into a future including both these men, as you will find out.

Jason is the calendar model, but the action happens mainly when he is taken to a rescue centre after being darted in his mountain lion form. Here he has to decide whether to trust vet Casey, both after the incident, but also with his heart. As they heat things up together, they also find themselves in the middle of a horrible trade in shifters. I thought this was a good change of direction, which was cleverly twisted back into the calendar story at the end.

Another fun and sexy read in the series.
