Starring a genderfluid YouTube makeup artist and an Instagram famous male model, this is an almost painfully fashionable New Adult romance.

This is a fun and easy romance. It’s a celebrity romance for the Instagram generation. Instead of film stars or rock stars, it is the story of a romance that starts online between two famous online celebrities. The story is full of references to red carpet events, fans, affluent homes, first class travel, and endorsement deals. There are some sweet moments between Jamie and Tyler, but I found it difficult to believe in a deeper connection between the two image-obsessed young men. Honestly, Tyler’s dogs are the most genuine characters in the story.

I realised pretty quickly that I am far older than this story’s target audience and I know this coloured my reactions to the characters and their situations. I found it difficult not to dismiss both Jamie and Tyler as vain and superficial young people. Their entire lives are staged for camera. Their carefully edited photos, videos, and stories are curated to create idealised online reputations that somehow make the men rich and famous.

I’m sure younger readers will relate to these characters but to me, their lives seem pretty vapid and purposeless.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
Contour is a very enjoyable read, with two leads who are successful, self-made internet stars. I like their stories of success, and how they have grown into the roles. It is a fun take on the fame of today, and was the only reason they knew of each other's existence.

I think this is a really sweet story of two really cool guys. There is no massive drama, thankfully, just the odd misunderstanding and realignment, which makes for a nice change. I loved their spontaneity and openness; it was refreshing. A lot of the communications between these two men is by text, and it works well format-wise. They are also well aware of its limitations, which made them generally more thoughtful and careful.

I'd love a follow up story about these guys and their friends. Dan could definitely get his story, as well as Lorelai, or just more Tyler and Jamie would make me happy too!
