This is more about the other characters in the town where Mercy lives. I think that this was far more about Mercy's ability to roll with the punches and adapt. We've seen her in her "preparing" ways and this time around, we get to see how she handles being on the outside of the investigation – more part of the investigation than the investigator.
The characters in this story were less complex in a way, but their dynamic was more complex. It seemed that this was more about family dynamic than anything. I enjoyed watching it unfold.
This is a more in-depth story about her fellow citizens. There are secrets around every corner and the mystery within the story, while somewhat predictable, is a fun one to think about.
Overall, this was not as great as the previous book, but I am very intrigued to know where this couple will take the next story.
