The Enforcer by Kele Moon

They are the lost boys.

Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten.

Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his brother Nova was too smart to be forgotten, and too valuable to risk when he resists a life of crime. So they punished Tino instead. Forced into the cruel world of the Sicilian Mafia at twelve, Tino was broken before he was old enough to know the man he was supposed to be. Now he’s what the mafia made him.

The enforcer.

A trained killer forbidden to love, but he did anyway. He's loved Brianna all along.

Raw and beautiful, their romance was all consuming and far too dangerous. They were ripped apart a long time ago. It’s not until the borgata puts out a hit on her that Brianna falls back into Tino’s arms, churning up their dark past and unraveling all the Moretti brothers’ closely guarded secrets.

This isn’t the end of the story. It’s only the beginning, and it is brutal.

There’s a reason enforcers are considered too deadly to love.

“We have to be better than them. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Lost boys have to fly.” – Carlo Moretti, original lost boy

The Enforcer picks up just before The Slayer left off and we get a beautiful reunion for Tino and Brianna. The story soon takes us back in time where we meet 12-year-old Tino living with his brothers after the death of their mother. Their father is a mafia boss and steps in to take custody of Tino and Nova after Romeo is arrested and jailed.

We follow Tino through his teenage years. We get to see him meet his sister, Carina, for the first time and fall in love with Carina's BFF Brianna. But the centre of this story is what Tino goes through at the hands of the Mafia and how he becomes an Enforcer. Issues such as child sex slavery and drug use are centre stage, and at times the story is quite violent. To balance that, we see immense love and devotion of the Moretti boys and lengths they will go to in order to protect those they love.

I spent several days completely immersed in The Enforcer. I felt like took over my life. I am totally and completely in love with Tino and with Nova, who we see plenty of as well. I forgot how funny the Morettis are when they are together. Among the danger, serious issues, and romance there are bunch of laugh out loud moments, especially towards the end.

It has been a long wait for Tino's story but it is not over. I am dying to find out what happens next. I hope the wait for The Enforcer's Revenge won't be too long. I loved The Enforcer but I have a feeling the best is yet to come.

Tino's story! I was excited about this one. However, in the end, not so much sadly. The story starts with present time and then we are thrown back to go through a looooooot of history between the two main characters and what brought Tino to be the man he is. While I found a lot of it interesting, I felt like the whole romance and the story that was started at the beginning was completely lost. I think if perhaps it had started differently, I wouldn't feel so disappointed, and it does end with a cliffy of sorts, which leads me to believe there is another part coming out where we'll get some more answers and perhaps get to see the relationship and romance that was left out of this one.

I felt at times like I was lost and perhaps it was because it has been a while since I read another book in this series so I don't remember exactly what was hinted at or told that was about these two and their past.

And I hate to rate it lower than it probably deserves, I also felt like it just didn't work for me. I wanted the story of the characters we had in the beginning, and instead the book was about their past and we didn't get to really see what comes of what was started in the beginning.

It wasn't a bad story. Not at all. It was interesting to read up on their history and learn about Tino's pain. Which reminds me, the way Tino's situation with Mary was explained at times, just didn't work for me. It really left me wondering what she did and how they came to where they ended up at.

It's hard to say a whole lot without giving away anything that we learn and go through in the story, but even though I wasn't as happy with this story as I would've liked, I would pick up the next story just because I really want to know what happens next, and I'm dying for Nova's story.

This series is so powerful – it takes everything and turns it around, and messes with the head, the heart, and the soul of the reader...so you can imagine what impact it has on its protagonists. If you have not yet read the previous two installments, I highly recommend that you do. Firstly, because they are both five star reads, but also because they set you up for this book. Ready for Ms. Moon to tear up the rule book and give you even more to think about...

Not easy to think that I would be rethinking my feelings for Tino – not expecting the level of awfulness that he had to endure, to survive, from such a young age. I've read some dark stuff, and actually this is right there, and yet humanity remains in sufficient a quantity for it to somehow not quite be as bad – but wow, it is still so bad. The presence of Carina and Brianna in Tino's youth sheds light in what is truly a bleak and black life; thank goodness. Yet, they are a weakness that he has to contend with, just like Romeo and Nova contend with him, and each other. Their level of loyalty, protection and in reality, impotence in the face of the mafia is heart-rending. As the book travels from now to back in time, recording the details of just how warped their lives have been, we can only ever want this great love to be given a chance. I do hope that Ms. Moon has the second part of Tino's books well under way, as I need to know how on earth this can be resolved. I have every confidence that I will be made to suffer along with the leads as we edge ever closer – I am certainly as close to the edge as I would ever go for any author, and will hold the faith!

Absolutely recommend this to you – be brave, and expect to be blown away.

A freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.
