For New York Kings' first baseman Scott Harper, scoring
women is easy. He's ready to get naked anytime, anywhere. But when a hacker
leaks his nude selfies, he's unprepared for the scrutiny his full-frontals
receive.
Carrie McKenzie has a love-hate relationship with her body. No longer the fat chick guys can ignore, she wins the job as the Kings' clubhouse reporter. With her svelte new figure, she nabs an exclusive interview with Scott to get his take on the scandal.
However, the two are already on a first-name basis after Scott came on to her in the hotel bar, and she woke up in his arms. The problem is that Scott doesn't do relationships and Carrie doesn't date jocks, yet the way they burn up the sheets is deserving of more than just a one-night stand.
Scott shows Carrie that he has a sweet, caring side beneath all the swagger. But can she really trust her heart to the biggest player in the game?

"Morning, Care Bear. Sleep well?"
Scott sidles up next to me inside the coffee shop at the Tocumen International Airport, knowing full well that I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night thanks to him.
"Pass me the sugar, would ya?" I ask, pretending like we didn’t just shower together a little over an hour ago.
"So, we're back to this again?" he sighs.
"No. It's just that I don't know how I'm supposed to act around you now.” I take a step away from him, aware of what we must look like as his arm brushes up against mine. “Just so you know, my boss is sitting over there by the window. Not to mention there are New York Kings milling around everywhere. It was drilled into my head when I got hired that sleeping with the players is off-limits. So we gotta keep our distance from each other."
"But don’t you know how hard it is for me to stay away from you?” he says, bumping his crotch against the side of my hip.
I bite down on my lip, and he leans in to grab a napkin, giving me an enticing hint of my mango-scented body wash on his skin. My cheeks start to burn when I picture everything he did to me when his body was covered in suds.
Somehow, I find my voice. "Well, you're gonna have to. I'm not losing my job over you by having anyone find out that I’ve joined your long list of conquests. C’mon Scott, it's embarrassing."
His eyes darken when I tell him exactly what he doesn’t want to hear.
"Fine. I was really enjoying getting to know you, but if you want me to stay away, I'll stay away,” he huffs, pushing off the counter with his hands.
"C’mon, Scott. Don’t be like that. Yeah, I want to see where this is going too, but you have to knock it off with all the sexy talk. It's inappropriate."
"But I like making you blush, and I like kissing you even more." He steps toward me again before freezing mid stride.
"Sorry to be reachin' over you two. I just need to grab a stirrer." Jake intrudes, sticking his body between us.
"How are you doing this morning, Jake?" I try not to appear as flustered as I am.

I love this series. Being a HUGE baseball fan this series is right up my alley. Ms. West has an amazing way to pull you into the story going into perfect baseball details. Perfect Game is by far the best read in the series. So many elements brought this one together. Scott and Carrie, Alex and Bobby, Bobby's story alone is heartbreaking and let’s not forget all the drama surrounding the Kings.
Scott Harper has to be one of my favorites. He is the true meaning of a bad boy. He's a mega star on the field and a ladies man in the bedroom. His being gorgeous doesn't hurt to draw all the ladies to him. When someone hacks his phone posting all his private naked photos of both him and all his celebrity hook ups, the scandal brings the Kings and Scott under unneeded stress.
"Sorry, sweetheart, but you're not gonna change me. It's no secret that I'm a love-'em-and-leave-'em kinda guy. It's just how I operate."
Carrie McKenzie is the clubhouse reporter for the Kings. Carrie's not blind to how good looking Scott really is and after he showers a teammate with Gatorade during a post-game interview getting Carrie soaked in the process, Carrie falls to his charming ways. After their night together will there be a repeat? Can she give it all up and tame the bad boy? Can he turn into a one woman man for her?
This is one of those reads I don't ever want to end. I love Bobby's story and hope we get to see more of him in future books. March was a great release time on this one. I happened to be reading this while watching Grapefruit league games making this a perfect companion seeing as Perfect Game starts during the Kings Spring training.

One of the best books I've read in a few weeks. I love a good sports romance with a guy that can be redeemed. In this case Scott Harper is that guy. Known for his on the field plays and his off the field antics, it all comes to a head during the off season when his personal cell phone is hacked and his very private selfies are leaked to the public.
Carrie McKenzie is the new clubhouse reporter with the NY Kings and she knows that the only way to prove herself in the boys club is to keep it professional, while conducting her interviews in 5 inch f**k me heels. But there is something about the bad boy that calls to her and she to him.
Even knowing that their attraction could get them both fired or traded, they are willing to fan the flames to see how hot they will burn.

Unusually for me, I had not read the previous books in the series, but I intend to rectify that situation as soon as I have time. It was a brilliant read as a standalone, but I have no doubt that I missed nuances due to having no back stories for the characters. Oh well, another treat to come reading them in order!
Sports romances are a huge hit with me, because they give context to the storyline, but are generally not too tense in a life and death sense. There are also familiar story lines, which I enjoy, although new twists are always welcome. Here we get to meet a man who has surely experienced one of the most embarrassing revelations that any man can face. Even if proud of his body, it being made public in its full glory has to play on his mind. That Carrie causes him to re-evaluate his position on relationships at the same time, has to affect his thinking. Fun, hot and entertaining, their relationship unfolds before our eyes. Mine could not help reading till they ached, and then some more.
Definitely make sure you have a clear run at this novel; snacks and drinks by your chair; phone turned off etc. because you will want to keep reading ... just one more chapter, late into the night!
Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.
Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.
