Garrett by Sawyer Bennett Blog Tour

USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett hits the ice with the story of a playboy athlete whose winning ways lead him to a beautiful woman with a lot to lose.

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

The music penetrates the deepest, most satisfying sleep I’ve had in a while. I had set the alarm on my iPhone to go off at six a.m. and the bone-jarring tunes of White Zombie’s “Thunder Kiss ’65” blares at me, a song that never fails to get me motivated. Which I need if I’m going to tear myself away from the tangle of arms and legs that surround me.

I dislodge the woman’s head that’s resting on one of my shoulders, and rather than hit “snooze” or turn off the music, I hit the volume button and turn it up even more. Rob Zombie’s razor-wire voice and thumping bass vibrate within me, and the other woman, whose head is resting on my chest with one arm wrapped around my waist, jerks in her sleep.

“Turn that down,” she mutters as she pushes up off my body and looks at me with bleary eyes. Golden blond hair that comes down almost to her ass floats all around her body, and she is quite the vision. I think her name is Donna.

Shoulder-resting woman gives a loud yawn and also pushes up off me, swiping her equally golden blond hair from her face. “What time is it?”

Bringing one hand to her hip, I stroke her skin and give her my most charming smile. “It’s time for me to get on the road. I have to be at the arena in a few hours.”

She smiles back at me, but it’s filled with mischief and hunger. I think her name is Debbie, but I can’t be sure. Both women look eerily similar and could definitely pass as sisters, and hell . . . maybe they are, for all I know. What I do know is that they brought me home with them last night after we all posed in a photo shoot for a men’s fashion magazine. It was a cheesy spread, in my opinion, where they had me in a tuxedo and the women wearing nothing but thong underwear as they undressed me. As the photographer snapped photo after photo while saying things like “Oh, that is hot. You are scorching my lens” and “More lust . . . I must feel a little more lust,” I let my mind drift away to the upcoming training camp that would be starting tomorrow.

I was so ready to get back to playing hockey. This summer has been great and I’ve been spending my time burning up the golf course with Alex, my best friend on the Cold Fury team, and hitting the beautiful beaches on the coast of North Carolina. But that can sustain an athlete like me for only so long. Especially when I eat, breathe, and dream hockey.

“How about we give you a nice send-off?” Donna says.

Or is that Debbie?

No clue.

She lays her hand on my chest and scrapes her nails down to my abdomen. The other woman—shit if I know which one is which—leans down to swirl her tongue around one of my nipples.

Guy meets girl and instantly knows there is something different about her. She's not impressed with his fame or his looks. She treats him as if he were ... just another guy. That alone intrigues him.

Girl meets guy and sees him for the player he is. If she would let herself go, she would see that he is exactly what she needs. A distraction from the real problems in her life.

When Garrett finds out what Olivia has been hiding, he surprises them both by sticking around for the long haul. When Olivia pushes him away, he finds himself broken hearted and not knowing how to get her back.

I really enjoyed this book and the depth of emotion that the author put into her characters and showing how even through adversity, love finds a way.

Heartwarming book, starts with Garrett Samuelson, hockey player is the king of one night stands. Meets Olivia and falls head over heels. Only Olivia has a secret. She's battling lymphoma cancer. Sometimes we read books to escape so this book got real. Real quick. If you love a heart-breaking romance, then this book is for you. I'd rather read light-hearted reads, so learning that this woman had an incurable cancer was hard. Still this played out as a HEA! Overall entertainment is four stars.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It took me through the whole range of emotions, from tears, to laughter, to reading in envy at the passion and the pleasure. I love sports romances, and Ms. Bennett's writing is always spot on, so it was not really a surprise that it was so good! It is told from the POV of both Garrett and Olivia, and through their musings and telling of how things are, it is impossible not to get drawn in and feel too. Lovely side characters which add so much to the dynamics as we watch the story unfold.

This series is definitely joining my reread list, even only two books in, and as I see that it is Zack's turn next, I am clearly going to have to invest in another box of tissues!

I read this as a standalone without reading book #1, Alex, first. I was able to read without issue, most things were explained. I do want to read book one to get the full story.

Garrett Sawyer has the dream life, well for him anyway. He's making money doing what he loves, playing hockey. He can get any girl he wants. He is the king of one night stands. He doesn't do relationships, not because he can't but because he hasn't found a woman he wants to spend more than a few nights with.

When he sees Olivia Case he is immediately drawn to her, she's beautiful. Olivia doesn't do relationships either, but she really doesn't do one night stands. He pursues her relentlessly, he begins to show her that person he is that no one really gets to see.

The harder Olivia fights against a relationship with him the harder she falls for him. Can she keep him at arm’s length? Will she tell him all her secrets? Can she be the one to tame the bad boy?

Wow this one was emotional. I always love watching the bad boy get tamed. I found myself laughing and crying. I was so into this one, I had to know what was going to happen next. Such a good emotional read! Sometimes you just need that read that gets you right in the feels, this was that one for me. I truly wasn't expecting such a reaction to the story. Well done, Ms. Bennett!

Well bully for you Ms. Bennett, you made me cry. Several times. Are you happy now? I know I am because despite bawling like a baby, I loved every page of Garrett. Admittedly, I knew going in that this was going to a have sad moment or two because the blurb pretty much tells you that Olivia is dealing with a potentially fatal medical condition. So yeah, tears were anticipated. What I didn’t expect was for Ms. Bennett to rip my heart out, stomp it on the floor, and then shove it in a blender and turn it on high. This is a sports romance for heaven’s sake – angsty sadness is okay, total emotional annihilation, not so much. But Garrett was worth every single tear I cried, including the full-on blubbering that occurred when I read the subheading for the Epilogue.

Just like not all my tears were sad tears, not all of the emotions that Garrett elicited from me were sad. On the contrary, I found myself laughing quite frequently as both Garrett and Olivia had a wonderful sense of humor and had no problem whipping it out when the situation called for it, and even when the situation didn’t call for it. And a sense of humor wasn’t the only thing being whipped out… (Oh yeah, I went there). The chemistry between Garrett and Olivia is intense and as Olivia concluded, the sex scenes are “off-the-charts mind-blowing.” Whew! I really must start watching hockey because hockey-based romances have become my favorite type of sports romance.

Add a bit of angst and a whole lot of romance to the tears, the laughs, and the sex, and it’s no wonder I loved this book. I do enjoy an emotional rollercoaster ride when it’s the result of a good book and Garrett certainly took me through my emotional paces. I should note that while this is the second book in the Cold Fury Hockey series, it can be read as a standalone. That said, I am stoked that I snagged a copy of Alex on sale a few weeks back and now have to find time to read it because I loved Alex and Sutton and so want to read their story to find out how they got together. Reading Alex will also give me an excuse to reread Garrett, especially if I do so right before the release of the next book in the series, Zack.
