Icing by Kelly Jamieson

Hailed by Jami Davenport as her “go-to author for hockey romance,” the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series sets the ice ablaze with another sexy novel featuring the gorgeous men of the Chicago Aces.

Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he’s a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who’s a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she’s a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.

Amber is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

This is a sweet and sexy romance that I really enjoyed!

Duncan Armstrong is an NHL star who has just dumped his model girlfriend because the only thing she wanted from his was his money. He wants a woman that is looking for more, and since he can’t find it, he’s swearing off women for a while. Duncan’s teammate owns a bar and Duncan heads there to drown his sorrows, only to run into the new waitress, Amber, who has his attention immediately. Amber is a part-time waitress, part-time model, full-time student with big goals for her future. She’s had a rocky past with a boyfriend, who was a famous sports star, and she never wants to go down that road again. Her and Duncan spend the evening chatting without her realizing who he was and right after making the discovery, she finds out he’s an NHL player and declines his offer to take her out… but Duncan isn’t ready to give up that easily.

I really love how awkward Duncan is around women. I read a ton of sports romances and I love the strong Alpha male role just as much as the next girl, but it was refreshing to see something a bit different with this one. This is a good read and I look forward to seeing more from Kelly Jamieson!

This was a really sweet romantic story. Both characters have their own issues that they have to deal with. They are both forced to face them and work through them in order to figure out if they can even be in a relationship together.

There were some twists in the story that were surprising and nice, but it was just a soft, sweet romance for the most part.

I will say for me, the sexy scenes were so drawn out and long that they ended up losing a lot of their appeal to me and I started skimming through them to just move the story along. However, other than that I enjoyed it for the unique, awkward leading man and the woman with a past.

The second book in the Aces Hockey series – this time Lovey's brother Duncan is in the spotlight. After she paired up with Marc, his best friend, flatmate and captain, Duncan realises just how meaningless his current fling is, and ends it, swearing off women. That very evening he meets Amber at the Sin Bin bar...the rest is the plot of this book – and very enjoyable it is too.

As these two come to terms with their own issues, and consider whether trust is something that they really can do again, they indulge in some very hot and steamy encounters. The rest of the team feature large, and are a great foil to the couple. Amber fits in well with the gang, especially Lovey, and we get to learn much about her past and her plans for the future in conversation. Some of the scenes are really funny – especially when she is trying to learn the rules of hockey with her photographer flatmate. Nothing was too extreme, or left unresolved for too long, which was a step forward for both of them. I really enjoyed that they were good people and acted in character, even when under pressure. The chemistry between them was hot, but also deep and caring.

Ms. Jamieson has done it again with this book – now I have to be patient and find out who features next!
