To Die For by Caitlyn Willows

The sound of her voice saved a cop’s life… and put a target on her back.

Zoe White’s got a voice to die for and the full-figured body to match. Sad that it’s taken another officer’s near-tragedy to spur Detective Frank Ludwig into finally making his move. Now that he has, Frank’s determined to be Zoe’s hero when her unselfish act makes her a killer’s target. It doesn’t take him long to realize Zoe doesn’t need a hero. She’s a survivor, perfectly able to defend herself… and Frank, too, when the chips are down.

What’s a guy to do when his woman ‘mans up’ before he does?

Then Frank learns just how much Zoe has sacrificed to recover from past demons and how determined those same demons are to destroy her again. He realizes there’s more to being a hero than fighting bad guys. A true hero helps the woman he loves retrieve the final fragments of her shattered life. Yes, Zoe can clearly defend herself. Now he’s depending on her staying alive long enough that he can be the hero she needs.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of violence, light bondage, brief reference to incest and to a past relationship involving physical and emotional abuse.

Zoe is such a strong character, I absolutely loved her. I love seeing a woman who can take care of herself and isn't afraid to be the one to take action when needed.

Frank was incredibly endearing. He was so sweet and took care of his woman. Their 'love' was quick moving, but it still fit for me because of how long they'd actually known each other and interacted with each other. I love that even though he is a large, hulking man, that he also had this soft, tender side. He was afraid to be shot down, which you don't read about often, but it’s a very real thing men deal with. And since Zoe isn't afraid to take care of herself, his machismo gets wounded because he isn't the one saving the day, so to speak.

With both the hero and heroine being strong, determined characters it was so much fun to watch them deal with a psycho ex and other insane characters as the story unfolds. Their lovemaking was ground shaking and I absolutely loved that their passion was just off the charts and so hot that sometimes it simply couldn't wait.

Other very real issues come up in the story, like one of them wanting children and the other not and them having to figure out how that is going to going to affect their relationship. Or what happens when one wants to leave the other because of the danger being together puts the other in.

A very well written story that I enjoyed, even if at times I didn't like how easily every problem was solved within the relationship and how it didn't really take much to solve any of the issues they came up against.

This was a great story. Zoe is a strong person who helps save a few fellow police officers. However, after surviving a brutal past, she became her own woman – she isn't a waif of a woman, but can handle herself. Because of that, she is often ridiculed and snickered at by her co-workers. She really just wants to hide when her crazy ex comes looking for her. But, she stands her ground and stays to fight.

Frank is amazing. He's kind, sweet, shy, and a great father. While he doesn't really know how to get into Zoe's good graces, he starts laying the groundwork. However, Zoe's a tough nut to crack. When her crazy ex comes around, Frank sees his moment and takes it.

Zoe and Frank have good chemistry and their banter is sweet and funny. When the relationship progresses, there are very real issues that they have to face. He has children who are almost grown, Zoe wants kids of her own. Can Frank really start over? Can Zoe sacrifice kids?

While there was a lot that I liked in this story, there wasn't too much angst or emotion and the "issues" were tied in a nice bow for the whole story. It made it almost too clean. Now they can live happily ever after with everything worked out. Overall though, I enjoyed this story.
