Taking Fire by Cheyenne McCray

Protect

Trace Davidson is determined to protect Christie from her ex-husband who has ordered a hit on her from his jail cell. Trace will do anything it takes, including putting his own life on the line, to make sure Christie survives.

Persist

Salvatore Reyes of the Jimenez Cartel intends to make sure his ex-wife never makes it to the witness stand to testify against him. Christie is the only one with enough damning evidence to send him to prison for life. If he’s convicted, he’s as good as dead—the drug cartel will kill Salvatore if he doesn’t kill Christie first. Salvatore isn’t going to let her live another day.

Prevail

Trace and Christie end up on the run. They must keep moving to avoid Salvatore and the cartel’s men. In the midst of danger, Trace and Christie find love—but first they have to make it out alive.

This was a fast paced, on the run type story. Christie wants to live her life – nobody telling her what to do, how to be – she wants her independence. When she finds herself in a sticky situation, she not only has to think fast, but she has to accept Trace's help.

Despite the FBI's attempts, they are having a very difficult time keeping Christie from harm. Her ex-husband is supposed to go to trial soon and he is set on getting away – Christie is the one witness that can truly harm his case.

With bullets flying, running for their lives, and trying to stay a step ahead of the assassins, Trace and Christie have their work cut out. They do find some time to develop a relationship, but their chemistry was far better while running than romantically.

Everyone is pulling all the stops out – FBI, Trace and the CoS friends in order to keep Christie safe, but Salvatore is also pulling all the stops out – he wants to take Christie out.

I enjoyed this story a lot and felt that it was more of a thriller than a romance, but overall, really liked it.

Cheyenne McCray is an award winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who loves to torture characters—whether they’re misbehaving or not—and kill off deserving individuals. She also totally gets off on blowing things up. All fictionally, of course. She’d rather chew glass than write sweet and sugary. Give her a hideous demon or particularly nasty villain to slay any day.

Cheyenne enjoys creating stories of love, suspense, and redemption. She loves building worlds her readers can get lost in.
