Corbin’s Bend – Ever Lasting Hope by Maggie Ryan

Everleigh has waited for weeks for her fiancé's return. Rob had been overseas for six weeks and his absence was almost more than Ever could take. Even knowing that he was going to take her over his knee for ignoring his instructions didn't dampen her desire to have him home.

After a few weeks of constant togetherness, Rob sees a change in the woman he loves. As their wedding draws closer, his sweet Ever was threatening to turn into one of those horrid Bridezillas. He decides she needs a different project, one that captured her artistic spirit.

Ever is all for following this order but finds her original plans change when she learns of a project that will allow her to honor the men and women who serve their country.

The residents pull together to help these injured soldiers. Tory's husband, John, needs more than his wife's love and as a fellow resident of this special community, Rob takes on a project of his own.

Ever finds that art takes many forms and hope is everlasting as long as there are people in the world that reach out to help their fellow man.

Rob moved away to walk across the room to retrieve his briefcase. Placing it on the bed, he dialed the combination to unlock it. Ever couldn’t help a small flinch as the latches popped open. Opening the lid, he gave her a smile. “I brought you something.”

Ever moved to him, her eyes drawn to what appeared to be a riot of color filling his briefcase. She gasped as he lifted the item, giving it a small shake to allow it to unfold. Smiling, she stepped even closer, her fingers reaching out to stroke the fabric. It was a robe, the sleek, soft texture of the fabric telling her that it was silk.

“It’s beautiful,” she whispered, the design appearing as he held it out. The colors were vibrant and seemed to shimmer in the soft lighting of their bedroom. A huge monarch butterfly filled the back, its wings encompassing the sleeves to move around the front. Wearing it would be as if she were enveloped in the embrace of a butterfly fresh from its cocoon. “Thank you, Rob.”

“You’re welcome.” Rob smiled as he laid the robe on the bed, picking up another item and handing it to her. “Open it.”

Ever smiled as she untied the ribbon and pulled off the paper. Her face heated as she realized what it was. Lifting her eyes, she saw his grin. What man brought his fiancée such a gift? Suddenly, she smiled as well – her man did. Her wonderful, loving and dominant man had actually searched through some store or stall on his journeys and held this in his hands, thinking how it would feel to wield it against his fiancée’s backside. Just as the silk robe showed his love, so did this thin wooden paddle. She stroked her fingers against the carvings, the flowers and leaves beautifully done, intricate in their design and yet simple in their beauty.

“It’s beautiful, thank you.”

Rob took it from her, turning it over in his hands. Setting it on top of the robe, he took her arms in his hands. “You are beautiful.” With a final kiss, he slowly tugged down the zipper of her dress. Sliding the material off her shoulders, his hands guided it down her body, his fingertips brushing against the skin he bared. With the dress just beneath her breasts, he bent and placed a kiss on the nipples pressing against the lace of her bra, drawing a deep moan with each kiss. Sliding the dress further, the tip of his tongue dipped into the depression of her navel, her body beginning to quiver. Moving lower, the dress was tugged over her hips and allowed to fall to the floor.

Ever felt like a piece of art as she watched Rob sit back on his heels, his head slightly tilted as he stared at her as if she were a statue or a painting he had never seen before. She watched as he bent a bit forward and saw his grin widen. His eyes drifted up to find hers. Rob lifted his eyebrow in that special way that had her blushing and stumbling just a bit as he turned her around. She heard him chuckle and shivered as his fingers traced along the bow that spanned the width of her ass. Her eyes fluttered closed for a moment and she gave a small gasp as he bent forward to kiss the small area of her cheeks that weren’t covered by the lace before turning her back around.

“I repeat, you are beautiful. Love the undies, Miss Harris, new?”

We all know about Corbin’s Bend and what goes on there. Ever’s fiancé was gone on a business trip that ended up being extended. Ever only had a few rules to follow while Rob was gone and of course she broke those rules and the people of Corbin’s Bend were there to help her out and report back to Rob. What should have been a sweet reunion after weeks apart turned into a punishment for Ever. After getting back on track things started to get out of hand with Ever again and Rob had to figure out what to do to get his sweet Ever back again. When Ever was done throwing her Bridezilla fits and became focused is when the story got good for me. I will admit I actually cried when Ever and the other ladies presented their items to the men and women who they were honoring. Probably didn’t help I read this over Memorial Day weekend so the emotions were flowing. This was a good story and addition to the series.

Another winning addition to the Corbin’s Bend collection. I love how different authors bring their own style to the series, and yet remain faithful to the existing characters and scenarios. I am always fascinated to see how the spanking will fit into the relationship, and what it adds to them both. Here I laughed at Ever's belief that finding a wedding dress would be simple ... and was delighted with how things were resolved. It was a poignant story and reminded us all of what sacrifices are made to keep us safe. I felt it was a story told with dignity, as well as the usual heat and romance that we know and love from Corbin’s Bend.

I have always loved the power of words and getting lost in another world. Bringing characters to life in a book so that you feel you know them is something I love doing. When not writing, I love reading curled up in a chair with huge mug of coffee.

I write mainly historical, age-play, fantasy & Victorian spanking romances.
