Corbin’s Bend – Life’s Unexpected Gifts by Livia Grant

Violence has been part of Hallie Boudreaux’s life for too long. Deciding all men are barbaric abusers, she’s once again on the run away from danger. Desperate to feel safe, if even for a few days, Hallie remembers the only time she had felt truly happy in the last seven years were the summers spent at her Aunt Jenna and Uncle Calbert’s. Taking a chance her aunt might take her in, Hallie points her dilapidated car towards Corbin’s Bend, praying she makes it there before her clunker takes its last gasp.

Troy Jackson can’t wait to surprise his sister on her 30th birthday. He’s recently moved back to Colorado to be closer to his only relative, Traci, a psychologist living in Corbin’s Bend. The surprise is on Troy when his normally conscientious sister runs amok on her big birthday proving that even intelligent, independent women still need the stern guidance of the men in their lives. Having grown up with loving parents who practiced the domestic discipline way of life, both Traci and Troy subscribe to the founding principles of the Corbin’s Bend community wholeheartedly.

Hallie’s family is thrilled to have her in Corbin’s Bend, but can Hallie come to terms with living in a community based on its endorsement of spanking, a practice Hallie sees as abuse. Can Traci’s counseling help her overcome her fear in order to accept her new life in Corbin’s Bend, or is it Traci’s brother who ultimately has the power to show Hallie that not all men are abusers?

I love the Corbin’s Bend series, you don’t have to read each book but some characters from previous books do show up in other books. Troy is going to see his sister in Corbin’s Bend for her 30th birthday, it is a surprise. Hallie is running from an abusive boyfriend and from everything she knows. Hallie is trying to get to her Aunt and Uncle’s house when bad weather, a crappy car and some deer all contribute to a car accident. Hallie is lucky and gets out and tries to walk the rest of the way but isn’t dressed for winter. Let’s just say the way Troy and Hallie meet isn’t good. Hallie coming from an abusive past doesn’t understand the difference between abuse and domestic discipline but Troy is willing to show her. There is attraction between both Hallie and Troy but she is hesitant. This was a great story that dealt with a touchy issue and handled it with class. I love the Corbin’s Bend series and can’t wait to read more.

Once again a very enjoyable story from the Corbin's Bend series. Thanks to the talent of the authors who are creating a vibrant community in the hills of Colorado, each book is unique yet adds to the whole. Snippets of previous inhabitants and incidents are fun for the addicted reader, and must whet the appetite of a new one.

Here a romance unfolds from the most inauspicious beginnings – and even though they seem to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to spanking, time holds some interesting lessons for them both. I do hope that Traci gets her HEA soon though, as she has been sidelined for a while.

I do recommend that you give the CB series a go, and this would be a good starting point.

Author Livia Grant lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband and two sons… one a teenager and the other an 80-pound furry rescue dog named Max. Livia is blessed to have traveled extensively around the globe, but as much as she loves traveling, the Midwest and its changing seasons will always be home.

A big fan of the book The Secret, she set her sights on becoming a novelist years ago and has made good on that dream. As for the timing, Livia finally feels like she has the life experience to write a riveting story she hopes her readers won’t be able to put down. Livia's fans appreciate her deep character driven plots, often rooted by an ensemble cast where the friendships are as important as the romance… well, almost. – Goodreads bio
