Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his
brother’s stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his
Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy’s whole world has been turned
upside down—not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts
Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.
Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he’s drawn into the SF team’s investigation of his army colonel father’s corruption, he’s surprised to find acceptance and friendship—especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie’s opposite in almost every way.
With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can’t help but wonder why they’re trying so hard to be good...

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
This was my first Hard Ink book and my first by this author. Without reading the others it wasn't hard to follow what was going on, easy standalone. But now I am interested in seeing what got this group to this point. I think I need the back history. So yep I am adding the rest of Hard Ink series to my “want to read” shelf.
Even though they are fighting for their lives, Jeremy and Charlie are fighting for each other. When Charlie was kidnapped, Jeremy and his brother helped to save him. At that moment Jeremy knew there was something about Charlie he wanted to explore.
Even before the kidnapping Charlie had a difficult life with the fact that he was gay. You could say his father wasn't exactly supportive. He wanted Charlie to hide who he was, but now faced with Jeremy could he keep hiding? Or would he lose the one thing he's always been looking for?
Great little m/m love story. This was a good way for me to be introduced to the author’s writing style, I liked it. I usually hate reading books in a series out of order, my reading OCD goes crazy, but I am glad I did with this one. I loved Jeremy and Charlie's story.

This is a novella in the Hard Ink series, and really is best read after the previous books. The story picks up from the very dramatic ending in Hard to Come By (which I reviewed and LOVED).
This is (I fear) a brief interlude in the main plot, which is tense and exciting. Jeremy, whose life has been turned upside down by his brother's return from war, is getting used to his quiet life being invaded by a group of strong, dedicated men, and their women. One person in particular has grabbed his attention. Charlie, just rescued from kidnappers, has a huge crush on Jer ... and we get to see how it plays out. Let's just say that Ms. Kaye does not disappoint. Hot, sweet, passionate and loving – great way to spend some free time!

At first I was pretty angry that this was a m/m book, but after finishing it I feel a lot better. I felt like the author was forcing me to read this book since its part of a series and I didn't want to miss anything of this exciting series. Let me be clear, this book is not necessary to read for the story. It's almost like a time-out. Jeremy and Charlie have an attraction together and they act on it. I'm not one to read much male-on-male action unless there's a girl too. Parts had me pretending Charlie was a girl :) If you like m/m then you will probably love this novella. I gave it four stars because it was well written and even a little humorous.
