One Dom to Love by Shayla Black, Jenna Jacob, & Isabella LaPearl Blog Tour

Raine Kendall has been in love with her boss, Macen Hammerman, for years. Determined to make the man notice that she’s a grown woman with desires and needs, she pours out her heart and offers her body to him—only to be crushingly rejected. But when his friend, very single, very sexy Liam O’Neill watches the other Dom refuse to act on his obvious feelings for Raine, he resolves to step in and do whatever it takes to help Hammer find happiness again, even rousing his friend’s possessive instincts by making the girl a proposition too tempting to refuse. But he never imagines that he’ll end up falling for her himself.

Hammer has buried his lust for Raine for years. After rescuing the budding runaway from an alley behind his exclusive BDSM Dungeon, he has come to covet the pretty submissive. But tragedy has taught him that he can never be what she needs. So he watches over her while struggling to keep his distance. Liam’s crafty plan blindsides Hammer, especially when he sees how determined his friend is to possess Raine for his own. Hammer isn’t ready to give the lovely submissive over to any other Dom, but can he heal from his past and fight for her? Or will he lose Raine if she truly gives herself—heart, body, and soul—to Liam?

Raine has loved her boss forever. Macen has loved Raine from afar forever. Liam is Macen’s best friend, knows he loves Raine and tries his best to get the man to make a move. When nothing works Liam makes an offer to Raine and she accepts. What happens next is a roller coaster ride and so many emotions you just don’t know what to think. I wanted to slap people, scream at people, cheer people on and then hug people. I am not really sure how I feel about this book or even the characters because it was really hard to connect with them. But I will read the next book because I need to see how this story ends.

Characters: I couldn’t connect with any of them
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: BDSM
Would I read more by this author: Yes

I debated hard on how to rate this one. My issue was this: It kept my interest enough to read in one sitting, but I didn't feel like I could connect with the characters. They seemed to lack the depth I needed to really get into the story. Raine, well let’s just say Raine was not my favorite at all. Macen (a.k.a. Hammer) was supposed to be the "Dom" in charge, he just came off as whiny with no alpha in him at all. The "If I can't have her no one can" attitude. Liam, I don't really have anything to say about him, negative or positive, he just was.

I think the story held tons of potential, it just seemed to fall flat for me. There was more drama than any real BDSM action. I don't think just because a flogger or paddle is mentioned does it mean that it should be labeled BDSM. It seemed like the authors really wanted it to go there but skate the specifics. Less soap opera-ish more BDSM scenes, making Macen manlier, more alpha, less whiny would have helped too.

It is a good thing that this is the first of a series, as I definitely want to know where it goes from here. Fascinating set up, crazy scenes, alphas who struggle with control ... I enjoyed it a great deal, and whilst it was somewhat implausible, well, aren't a lot of these stories ... It is well written, face paced and light hearted. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment.

One Dom to Love is a book that I have read several times, but not since I began writing reviews. I actually stumbled upon it after reading a couple of books in Ms. Black’s Virgin series that she co-authors with Lexi Blake and I wanted to read more of her writing. After finishing One Dom to Love the first time, I was glad that I had. It is among my early forays into BDSM erotica and I still love it.

One of the things I enjoy most about One Dom to Love is the angst that all three main characters experience throughout the book. In most cases, I don’t typically enjoy the level of angst that is present in this book. However, the authors do an outstanding job of infusing so much emotion accompanying the angst that I often felt as if I was experiencing the characters’ betrayal, heartbreak, pain, and love right along with them. While Macen and Liam are most definitely alpha males and Doms, their actions toward Raine frequently demonstrate a lack of control. The love that Macen and Liam feel for Raine is apparent, even when their actions – especially Macen’s – cause her to question their feelings. Raine’s frustration with Macen is completely understandable as the man pushes her away time after time until Liam shows an interest in her, then Macen is literally all over her only to push her away again the following morning. It is no wonder that Raine doesn’t understand why Liam wants her as Macen’s unintentional head games have done a number on her already damaged self-image.

Despite this being a reread for me, I found One Dom to Love to be just as enjoyable as the first time I read it. I was drawn back into Raine’s world and the tug of war she experienced between Macen and Liam and wasn’t ready for it to end. At least when I finished reading it this time, the sequel is already available. I am looking forward to reading The Young and the Submissive to find out what happens next between Raine, Liam, and Macen.
