Rafe by Sawyer Bennett Blog Tour

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett comes a new story in her Arizona Vengeance series…

I was living my dream until one phone call changed everything.

As the second line center for the Arizona Vengeance, my mind has been on one thing—helping my team bring home a championship. But that all changed when I found out my dad had cancer and only months to live. In that moment, nothing mattered more than getting home to North Carolina to be by his side. That meant asking for the unthinkable—a trade to the Carolina Cold Fury.

Now I’m home and when I’m not on the ice with my new team, I’m helping care for my dad. And in the midst of my grief, I find comfort from the one person I never expected.

Calliope Ramirez stole my heart at a very young age. The beautiful, smart, headstrong girl next door, she was my first… everything. She has never forgiven me for leaving her, believing that I chose hockey over a future together. What she doesn’t understand is that every decision I made was for her, and I’ve never given up hope that one day we’d be together again.

Watching my dad slip away is a harsh reminder of how short life can be, and having Callie by my side makes me realize I was a damn fool before. That changes starting right now. Calliope Ramirez is mine and I’m not going to waste the second chance that I’ve been given.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

The Arizona Vengeance series from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett can be read together or separately.

Rafe is part of the new hockey team, the Arizona Vengeance. When he gets a call from home that his dad only had a few months to live; cancer sucks and it affects everyone close to the patient.

When Rafe goes to talk to the Vengeance owner, Dominik Carlson (who is yummy and you need to read his story if you haven't, sorry I love Dominik), about needing to go home. Dominik does all he can to get Rafe home, even trading him with one member of the Carolina Cold Fury.

Now that Rafe is home, he is picked up at the airport by Calliope Ramirez, the girl who stole his heart at a young age and they were going to live happily ever after. That is, until Rafe decided to leave her behind when he got drafted.

Calliope is not happy to see Rafe, she has to deal with all the old feelings coming back. But she will be there to help him deal with losing his dad in any way she can.

Can Rafe make Calliope understand why he left her when he was drafted? Will she forgive him, and they move on? Can they act on these old feelings and make a future together?

I love everything about the Arizona Vengeance series and this one will break your heart, but the ending is perfect. So sit back and enjoy this quick read from author Sawyer Bennet because Aaron Wylde is next.

M/F Second-Chance Romance

Rafe is heading home, but not for a particularly good reason. With his dad dying, Rafe asked to be moved to a different team so that he could spend as much time with his dad as possible.

Calliope loves Rafe's parents. Despite her relationship with Rafe, she has never let it get in the way of her relationship with his parents.

Rafe knows that he made a mistake when he left Calliope, but he isn't quite sure how to make amends. With his life being rearranged, Rafe knows that he wants to show Calliope how much she means to him and that he'll never hurt her again.

This is a quick read that really shows that sometimes, love really does allow someone to overlook a past flub. It was sweet and fun, but had real life moments too. I love these hockey players and can't wait to see more.

This could definitely be read as a standalone – as all in the 1001 Nights series – but if it is your first Arizona Vengeance, or Cold Fury story, I do hope that you go back and enjoy catching up on this highly enjoyable hockey world created by Sawyer Bennett. I can tell you that it is absolutely a worthwhile endeavour!

If you have read Dominik – the book which precedes this one – then you will know that Rafe has given up his spot in the Arizona line up to transfer to Cold Fury and finish off the season staying with his parents. His father is very sick with terminal cancer and does not have long. Here we catch up with him on his return and although he slots into the Fury team very quickly, facing life back home is tough. His father, who always worked hard and spent little time with his son, is now a shadow of his former self, and Rafe has to understand how to best use this time with him. His childhood best friend and ex-girlfriend, Calliope, whom he left behind when his career started, has the knowledge he needs, as a nurse, but the situation between them is tense.

As Rafe and Calliope spend time together, he finally acknowledges just how wrong he was to end it with her, but he had a reason he believed to be good. It is lovely to see that there is hope there, as the situation with his father is inevitably not good. It is beautifully written – it was a two-tissue element for me, so expect a tear or two.

There is a wonderful mix of hockey, romance, and family here – it gives us a good story within a shortish timeline, but the history between Calliope and Rafe makes it believable, and most definitely very emotional. That said, I would have clouted Rafe right at the end if I had been her... you will see what I mean!

Rafe's life is turned upside down when he gets a phone call from his parents telling him his father has cancer and doesn't have long to live. He needs to go home to be with his father and his team, the Arizona Vengeance, makes it happen. Being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury, he gets to continue to live his hockey dream while spending time with his family and his first love, Calliope.

He left Calliope eight years ago because he didn't want her to give up her dreams so that he could follow his. Now he realizes what a mistake it was to make the decision for the both of them rather than talk it out.

This is a nice second-chance romance story which combines heartache and heartfelt emotion.
