Wicked Secret by Sawyer Bennett Release Blitz

Those that truly know August Greenfield, will tell you that I live my life to the fullest. Work hard as part of the team at Jameson Force Security but play just as hard at The Wicked Horse Vegas. I have no regrets about my life.

Well, maybe just one.

Leighton Hale was my first love and the woman I wanted to spend my life with, but one day she was just gone. Vanished without a trace. Even my extensive contacts as part of the team at Jameson left me empty-handed in my search for answers. My single remorse is never being able to find out what happened to her, because no matter how difficult the truth may be, it can’t be as bad as never knowing at all.

Ten years later, a knock on my front door brings me face-to-face with the woman I thought I’d never see again and nothing in my life could have prepared me for the secrets she holds.

Here we are for another visit to The Wicked Horse Vegas, and it is just as much a thrill for me as the first time. Each book is a different couple but with some of the old characters that we all fell for.

August works for Jameson Force security in the Vegas office and he loves going to The Wicked Horse just as much as the next guy. He works hard and plays harder. He lives a full, fun life and has no regrets. Well, maybe just one. And that is the one that got away, she disappeared without a trace.

Leighton Hale had always thought that she would spend the rest of her life with August Greenfield. But when things happened, she and her father had to run and hide. Disappearing forever, never getting in contact with anyone from their past, not even the one she loved.

Now, ten years later, she is on August's doorstep looking for his help. And to tell him about a secret that might make him hate her forever. Will August listen to her and accept what happened all those years ago? Can she get him to understand that she needs his help? Will he forgive her for not contacting him sooner? Can they move past the pain and have a future together?

I love this series and look forward to each new story. I hope you give it a chance if you haven't started it yet. And if you have, then I hope you love August and Leighton too.

This is the seventh book in the series – you will benefit from reading them all, but this is a very good story in its own right.

August works hard and plays hard, so when his first love turns up ten years after her family disappeared overnight, he is confused, and when he finds out why she is there, also very, very angry. As time passes and they work together to save Sam, he realises both that she is genuinely sorry, that it was only ever what she believed to be her only option, and that he possibly should try and forgive her. I loved that there was some proper soul searching, as they all considered what had happened, why and whether it was indeed an ongoing threat.

I really am loathed to say much more, as it is best that you get to understand the story fresh. But I promise that it is well worth it. We certainly get to enjoy some time as voyeurs at The Wicked Horse, and August makes some unexpected discoveries about his hedonistic preferences. I am hopeful that we will meet them again and see how things have developed, and whether he has cravings that they choose to satiate together.

Thank you, Sawyer Bennett, for a very sexy, thought provoking, and ultimately, perfect ending.

August, I thought, was horribly immature throughout this book. Not only was he not truly ready to settle down, given his favorite pastime, but when Leighton comes knocking, he is thrown right back to when he was – 18 and fumbling through life. And even when he’s presented with all of the facts, he just is not really able to see past all that’s happened.

Then you have Leighton. She was tough. She took the tongue lashings that were given out, but because she’s a mom, she did endure anything and everything to make sure that her son was taken care of.

This wasn’t very fraught with mystery. And while they did have some steamy scenes, again, August was immature and even a bully at times, towards Leighton. It was a game of chicken and it made me so mad that he would play with her feelings that way.

Finally, the ending felt really rushed and not at all like an ending. I’m not sure if we’ll see more of them, but I felt that they didn’t get a very true story. I was left wanting more.
