Final Shot by V.L. Locey Release Blitz

Sometimes family is the light that leads you through the darkest parts of life.

Living the dream. That’s been Dan Arou-Kalinski’s life for the past ten years. That life hasn’t always been an easy one though. Dan has worked hard to get where he is and has faced some major obstacles on his road to success. It’s not always been a rose garden being married to Victor, but his love for his sometimes thorny husband has no bounds. His career has given him years of great success, memories, and championship rings. Yes, fate has been kind to Dan Arou-Kalinski for quite a long time. Looks like destiny is about to start calling in some markers.

The paybacks come due when a recurring health issue turns into a life or death situation and threatens to take him out of the game he loves permanently. Then there’s Victor’s son Jack, a proud and out nonbinary preteen who is living a daily nightmare in a small southern town. Juggling two major life issues is taking its toll on him, and just when he thinks he’s found the path out of the woods, Dan will face an unexpected and devastating loss that will require all three of the Kalinski men to pull together to help each other through the dark times.

Whilst this may be the second in a newly numbered series, I would definitely recommend that you consider looking at the Cayuga Cougars first and ideally, the Point Shot books too – so much goodness awaits you! This is the second of many, but is also a duet with book one, Rebound, which you really need to have read first. I was lucky enough to read them back to back and it was a lovely treat.

We rejoin the Arou-Kalinski household ten years after the events of Rebound. Vic's son, Jackie Blue, is still many miles away with his mum, stepdad, and sister, but he is finding life difficult with bigoted behaviour at every school he attends. Finally, things come to a point where it is best he move to Boston, even if the wrench from his darling sister and family will be hard.

As this plot is unfolding, Dan is also struggling with injury in the playoffs, and whereas in Rebound we get to hear Vic's side of the story, now we benefit from Dan's. And poor Dan is struggling with pain, and only prescription drugs are keeping him playing. It is harrowing to watch, and so much more so when we know what Vic went through and how strong Dan was for him. Oh, be ready for some very tough times and for, as Vic would describe him, perfect Dan, falling horribly low.

This is a really tough read, but also a very beautiful and important one. It is frightening how many innocently fall prey to the need caused by these potent drugs, and it takes a very strong person to acknowledge it.

V.L. Locey never shies away from the difficult or the messy, but it is always so worthwhile, for we get to see the real side of life and love.

USA Today bestselling author V.L. Locey – Penning LGBT hockey romance that skates into sinful pleasures.

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, Torchwood and Doctor Who, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a pair of geese, far too many chickens, and two steers.

When not writing spicy romances, she enjoys spending her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in one hand and a steamy romance novel in the other.
