Noah by Melody Anne

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Melody Anne continues her sizzling and heartfelt series about billionaire Joseph Anderson’s long-lost nephews.

Salt-of-the-earth Navy veteran Noah Anderson is just starting to understand what it means to be exceedingly wealthy. Since he and his four brothers received a huge payout from their long-lost billionaire uncle, they’ve been hard at work building a new veterans center—and hard at play with the lovely ladies in their lives.

Noah, in charge of designing the center, has been mostly focused on work. However, coarchitect Sarah Jennings commands more of his attention all the time. Sparks fly whenever they’re together, but she’s wary—even afraid—of love, and Noah isn’t the biggest fan of commitment.

When they reach a creative roadblock, Noah and Sarah decide to jet across the United States and study the buildings that most influence them. The trip quickly inspires more than just a love of architecture, and with a little help from Uncle Joseph, the reluctant couple gets ever closer to discovering what they’re really looking for.

Ruthie☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series, but links across many other series where Joseph Anderson does his best matchmaking to ensure all his family are happily married. I have read many of them and enjoyed them a great deal, but I have to admit that this group of brothers, who grew up ignorant of their absent father's family's wealth until recently, are not my favourite. Possibly because they are still rather dubious of accepting the money, let alone the dating advice of Joseph Anderson, given their father's poor behaviour, or just because they have a different mindset.

This book certainly starts unusually, in that Noah and Sarah are in a relationship when they are in a car accident and she is the most injured. Noah decides he is bad luck (based on people he cares about having poor outcomes) and he should leave her alone. Sarah decides that she was being punished for mixing business with pleasure and resigns from the project they were doing together. Her resignation is refused by aforesaid matchmaker Joseph, and we then experience the two of them knowing they like each other – because we have their inner voice telling themselves this repeatedly. There was a lot of description and not a great deal of communication, which I did find frustrating and slow to read. I really struggled to feel engaged or, after a while, even to understand why they did even like each other.

I have to admit I am shocked that I felt that way, as I have read dozens of Melody Anne books and enjoyed them all, and usually finished them in one sitting as I am so engrossed. It may be me, it may be the time I read it, but somehow this is a bit of a miss for me. And a few days after I finished it, I am still bothered that they went out to a restaurant (travelling separately) and after drinking a lot of wine, he let her drive home – stupid of me, but was totally out of character for both of them.

M/F Romance

Despite reading the first book in this series, I felt thrown into the story. I am still unclear how their relationship started and why they didn't continue after Sarah's accident.

Noah is working with Sarah on a veteran's center and it's a very big and important project. They have a history but know that keeping things professional is the way to start. Noah knows that he wants to have more with Sarah but doesn't want to scare her away.

Overall, this is just a ho-hum romance. I didn't think that it was really all that spectacular. Also, the "twist" is very odd. It felt more like it had been thrown in just for some type of conflict, but not that it really meshed with the story.
