Mr. Frosty Pants by Leta Blake Blog Tour

Can true love warm his frozen heart?

When Casey Stevens went away to college four years ago, he ghosted on his straight best friend, Joel Vreeland. He hoped time and distance would lessen the unrequited affection he felt, but all it did was make him miss Joel more. Home for the holidays, Casey hopes they might find a way to be friends again. But Joel’s frosty reception reminds Casey of just how hard he had to fight to be Joel’s friend in the first place. It’s going to take a Christmas miracle to get past that cool façade again.

Joel isn’t as straight as Casey believes, and his years of pining for Casey have left him hurting and alone, caring for his abusive father and struggling to get by. Unable to trust anyone except his rescue dog—and with no reason to believe Casey is interested in him for more than a holiday fling—Joel’s icy heart might shatter before it can thaw.

Can Casey and Joel’s love overcome mistrust, parental rejection, class differences, and four long years apart?

Mr. Frosty Pants is a stand-alone, Christmas gay romance by Leta Blake featuring a virgin hero, childhood friends-to-lovers, second chance romance, and romantically steamy scenes.

4 Holiday Stars.

Mr. Frosty Pants is a holiday romance, featuring friends to frenemies to lovers, alongside second-chance romance, laced with the angst of family disapproval.

Casey had always been in love with his best friend, Joel, who wasn't the most receptive of friends. Joel was slightly bitter and not always so nice, but deep down he loved Casey being around. This tenacity Casey displayed evaporated when he graduated high school and became his father's clone, moving away to study at NYU, completely cutting everyone but family out of his life.

In a way, Casey and Joel are living parallel circumstances due to their fathers' influences and abuses, but it's the financial differences that make the gap unbridgeable. Joel is from the other side of the tracks, the strain of being a small business owner forcing him to live far below the poverty line. Whereas Casey is from an affluent family, spending money as if it grows on trees, money he's yet to earn himself.

Casey is kind, giving, and compassionate, yet doesn't easily get close to others. Whereas Joel is bitter, the embodiment of Mr. Frosty Pants. Together, they bring out the best in one another, if only they'd get over their issues and accept it as fact, which is exactly what this yummy holiday romance is about.

I thoroughly enjoyed escaping my life for a few stolen hours, while getting a dose of the holiday spirit and an injection of hope-filled change. I'm also a sucker for a pup in a novel, so Bruno was my favorite character. Also a sucker for quirky teens, Angel was my second favorite character. I'd love to read more about her, alongside her stepbro – we need a book featuring the men Casey and Joel were set up with. That would be super fun.

This is a sweet and angsty new adult Christmas romance. It’s the story of two childhood friends who meet again as young adults. While Joel has struggled to support himself and his father since high school, Casey has enjoyed a life of easy privilege while away at college in New York. But while their adult lives are very different, neither Joel or Casey can ignore the attraction that has always pulled them together.

Joel is the best thing about this book. He’s surly, aloof, and almost deliberately miserable. The nickname Mr. Frosty Pants fits perfectly. But life has been brutal to Joel and his reactions make sense. I love the way his relationship with Casey helps him find the strength and confidence to own his life and grow into his skin. Casey is possibly an easier character to like but he has to check his privilege and do some serious adulting before he and Joel can work. The connection between Joel and Casey is pretty magical and these two are wonderful together.

I really enjoyed the other characters in this book. Everyone is allowed to be a bit more complicated than they first appear and I love that Joel and Casey’s relationships with their families aren’t quite as simplistic as they first appear. I also like that this isn’t just a Christmas book – it’s a character and relationship driven story and the holiday just pulls the characters together.
