Best Friends with Benefits by Candy Sloane Blog Tour

Seven minutes in heaven never felt so good…

Valerie Barkin and Alec Rogers survived bullies, awful parents, and seriously shitty social standing the only way best friends can—together. But with the unexpected sexual tension suddenly flaring between them, surviving their ten-year high school reunion might be a different story…

Val hasn’t changed. She still feels like the stringy-haired band geek the popular kids teased, but Alec has definitely changed. He’s now the front man for the Grammy-winning rock band Chronic Disharmony, with the sexual reputation to match. And he’s more than willing to help Val rock the reunion.

And then it happens—a drunken game of Seven Minutes in Heaven—and their fourteen-years-long foreplay comes crashing to the forefront…changing everything.

Seven minutes turns into a weekend of mind-blowing, no-strings-attached sex. But these best friends won't be able to leave their hearts out of it forever, not when the most meaningful benefit could change their relationship for good....

“I can teach you my ways.” He lifted his brows up and down comically. “The best way to get over a breakup is to fuck someone new.”

“Thanks, Confucius.”

“That’s Cock-fucius,” he tossed back with a wicked grin.

She shook her head. “I can only imagine what your fortune cookies might say.”

He opened his mouth to reply, and she pressed a hand over it.

“If you say it’s fortune nookie you get a punch to your namesake.”

Man up, Alec. Best friend or not, she is telling you to fuck her.

No more talking, no more thinking. He’d fuck her so hard she’d shriek the answer he’d waited for like it was the only word she knew. She’d forever equate the affirmative with the plunge of his cock. He reached for her. His fingers were inches away from those teasing nipples when she pulled back.

“I have rules.”

“What?” His voice was filled with shocked laughter. He pressed his outstretched hands against the bed. He should have known it wouldn’t be so easy.

“If we’re going to do this,” she said, her face so serious he thought it might crack, “there are things we need—”

“I have rules, too,” he interrupted. He didn’t at the moment, but Val’s maturity always did that to him. It was something he admired and tried, though usually failed, to copy.

“Mine first.” She focused her eyes on the mirror across the room and away from him. “I want an orgasm.”

I liked the beginning of the book, we have a high school reunion and our main characters, Valarie & Alec, are planning to attend together. They were best friends in high school, never anything more.

Both a bit on the nerdy side, they weren't part of the "IN" crowd in high school. Alec is a big time rock star now and Valerie is a concert flutist with the symphony. Both have something to prove and look forward to coming home to feed their classmates a little crow.

A quick game of spin the bottle and 20+ years of bottled up emotions, Val & Al end up in the closet for 7 minutes and the sparks start to fly. After that, I found the book a bit dry and slow going. I'm not sure what didn't work either, I just found myself skimming and disinterested. On a plus note, Alec is quite the seasoned dirty talker and I enjoyed their liaisons together very much. The rest of the "can’t quite get them together" off and on again stuff didn't keep me 100% interested.
