More Than Need You by Shayla Black

Book Two in Shayla Black’s sexy and emotional contemporary romance series More Than Words…

I’m Griffin Reed—cutthroat entrepreneur and competitive bastard. Trust is a four-letter word and everyone is disposable… except Britta Stone. Three years ago, she was my everything before I stupidly threw her away. I thought I’d paid for my sin in misery—until I learned we have a son. Finding out she’s engaged to a bore who’s rushing her to the altar pisses me off even more. I intend to win her back and raise our boy. I’ll have to get ruthless, of course. Luckily, that’s one of my most singular talents.

Sixty days. That’s what I’m asking the gritty, independent single mother to give me—twenty-four/seven. Under my roof. And if I have my way, in my bed. Britta says she wants nothing to do with me. But her body language and passionate kisses make her a liar. Now all I have to do is coax her into surrendering to the old magic between us. Once I have her right where I want her, I’ll do whatever it takes to prove I more than need her.

This book is the second in the More Than Words series. The books are companions, not serials, meaning that backstory, secondary characters, and other elements will be easier to relate to if you read the installments in order, but the main romance of each book is a stand-alone.

This book contains lines that may make you laugh, events that may make you cry, and scenes that will probably have you squirming in your seat. Don’t worry about cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed! (Does not contain elements of BDSM or romantic suspense.)

This is Griffin and Britta's story. It is the second in this series and it didn't disappoint.

Griffin has just reunited with his brother, Maxon, after years of hating him. They had a falling out and in the collateral damage, Griffin broke the only woman he's ever loved – Britta. What he didn't know is that he had left her pregnant and unable to get in touch with him because he was immature and running.

Britta has made a great life for herself and her son, Jamie. They work alongside Griffin's brother and have never had any issues because he and Britta had a shared hurt by Griffin, Britta felt that she was safe to work with Maxon. However, when Griffin and Maxon work things out, nothing is there to protect her heart against Griffin's assault.

When Griffin tries to see Britta and get to know his son, he has to bare it all in order for Britta to see that he's no longer the scared, young kid who ran from her all of those years ago. This story is rich in emotional warfare and at times, I truly hate Griffin for all that he was and sometimes, still is.

The secondary characters in this story are complex and integral, but Griffin's best friend, Keeley, is the one I identified the most with. Her love of music and being able to communicate through song lyrics was great and unique.

So, this is an emotionally charged story where the main characters have to figure out if past hurts are just too insurmountable to overcome. With a child hanging between them, Griffin knows that he'll always be tied to Britta, but will it be a tie that he can live with? Britta doesn't want to continue to be the naive girl who let Griffin break her, but with her feelings and emotions all over the place, is there a path for Griffin to find forgiveness?

I can't wait to read Harlow's book – she's a spitfire and I love her already.

This is the second in the series, and although it is a new romance, there is some crossover of time, so do read book one first if such things bother you. It will also prepare you a little for the story to come. That said, it is a good story in its own right, so if you can't wait to read Griff and Britta's story.

Griffin is a man who has made some pretty epic errors in his life, and finally, he is pulling himself together. Then he gets some completely unexpected news, and his life is thrown into turmoil. I felt that it was incredibly effective and could only imagine how stunned he was, and how easy it would be to revert to old habits. We get pretty much the whole story from his viewpoint, and he skirts very close to his trust and anger issues. Thankfully his womanising ways are immediately quashed as he knows who is really important to him, and that he needs to sort out his future.

In this book, Griff manages to move forward with his brother, as well as come to terms with how Becca should be a part of his future. His friendship with Keeley is key to his mental health, although as we learn, his trust, or his shame, is something he has shared with no one until now. I found his methods questionable at times, but he was certainly persistent.

Between both Griff and Becca coming to terms with the past, and struggling with their view of the future, there is a fledgling relationship growing. I found Becca's lack of close friends to be sad, but believable – but it gave us an insight into how much she had lost the first time around.

Really the ending is just the beginning and hopefully we will get more of their story as we get the next installment, which focuses on Griff and Maxon's little sister, Harlow.

This is the second book in the More Than Words series and it will break your heart, what Griff and Britta go through.

Griff was put through hell from his parents and they destroyed his being able to trust anyone. When he met Britta, he thought she was too good to be true. And he thought he couldn't trust her fully because she would somehow use him and hurt him in the end. And what happened was that he hurt her and broke her. Three years later, he has realized that he is the one that messed up and destroyed them both. Now he has to prove to her he has changed and wants another chance to prove he loves her and will love only her forever.

Britta thought she had found true love with Griff, until the day he broke her heart and left her. Now three years she is newly engaged, and Griff has shown back up and is trying to worm his way back into her life. She needs to talk Griff into leaving her alone and protect her heart. It's hard to protect her heart when the only man she has and will ever love shattered her heart three years ago.

What will Britta do when she learns about Griff's past? Will Britta give Griff a second chance to make things right? Will Griff get a chance to be a daddy?

This is a first for me from Shayla Black and I can't wait to read more from her. This story pulled me in from the beginning and kept me on the edge, wanting to know what would happen next. I will be going back and reading book one to see what happens with Maxon and Keeley and I can't wait for Harlow's story.
