Love, served extra dirty.
Jesse Murtagh loves his life as a wealthy bisexual businessman dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure. With a circle of friends he trusts implicitly, he enjoys a successful career in his family’s business and as co-owner of Under, an uptown speakeasy, with his friend with benefits, Kyle McKee.
Music teacher and part-time DJ Cameron Lewis lives modestly in a DUMBO loft and isn’t interested in serious relationships. However, he’s always up for some casual fun.
Doing a favor for his friend Carter Hamilton, Jesse meets Cam and is immediately charmed. When Jesse discovers Cam’s other life as a DJ, he is further intrigued. Viewing Cam as a challenge, Jesse pulls out all the stops, but his usual methods to avoid serious relationships fail. Though Cam has no intention of becoming attached, he begins to fall for Jesse, unaware that Jesse’s feelings are changing.
Afraid of heartbreak, Cam pulls away, leaving Jesse bewildered and hurt. They remain friends until a series of misunderstandings widens the rift to breaking point. When Cam steps in to help Jesse through a family crisis, they realize they care for each other more than they’ve been willing to admit. Jesse and Cam don’t want a traditional relationship, but can they build a future that makes them both happy?
Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of mmm ménage as well as references to homophobia and recreational drug use.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This the second book in the series – I have to admit I read book three first, and am now catching up, before book four releases soon! I really enjoyed Behind the Stick and did not regret going back to the beginning. Was very pleased to find out that Jesse was the lead in this installment.
Jesse is the money behind the speakeasy, partnered with Kyle, who is the genius behind the bar. He is a high-powered businessman, born and raised in a life of privilege. He is a hedonist and though he and Kyle often let off steam together, and with a third, he has no intention of ever settling down. He spreads his pleasure across a number of people, many of whom continue to be friends long after they move on and find love. He also has no trouble making it clear what he wants, so when he meets Cam deejaying at a nearby club, he shows his interest.
Cam is a school music teacher, and a DJ on the side. He comes from a happy, simple life out of the city. He shares a flat with four others and leads a fairly normal life, until he meets Jesse. Suddenly he is invited on rather a rollercoaster, glamorous lifestyle, but with absolutely no chance of commitment or permanence. He is enjoying meeting a whole new circle of friends, but always living on the edge of being out of it again. I thought it was really well described, and the flow of the story was beautifully paced.
The good news was that Jesse's friends were well aware that he and Cam could have a future, and they were prepared to force them to face the truth, communicate rather than make assumptions.
Another great installment, and puts Behind the Stick in more context for me – I am very much looking forward to book four and catching up with the Thursday night speakeasy family.
