Driving Whiskey Wild by Melissa Foster Audiobook Review

A captivating new sexy standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster.

Special Forces veteran and Dark Knights Motorcycle Club member Bullet Whiskey lives to protect his family, their bar, and the residents of his small hometown. He’s rough, unapologetic, and haunted by a secret, painful past. He’s also a master at keeping people away, and when his sister hires gorgeous and sweet Finlay Wilson to help expand their biker bar, he knows just how to get rid of her.

After losing her boyfriend and her father, Finlay moves back to her hometown to be closer to the little family she has left. She needs her temporary job at Whiskey Bro’s to get her catering business off the ground, and she’s determined not to let the gruff, arrogant mountain of a man Bullet Whiskey scare her off.

Finlay is everything Bullet has never wanted. She’s afraid of his dog, afraid of motorcycles, and sweet enough to give him cavities, but as she weaves her way into the hearts of everyone around him, he’s powerless to resist her charms. Passion ignites, but trust doesn’t come easily, and when their pasts collide, Bullet finds out the true meaning of protecting those he loves.

Angela☆☆☆☆
Driving Whiskey Wild is only my second Melissa Foster audiobook and I’m forced to admit that I’ve not read any of her books prior to this. When our blog was offered the opportunity to join the author’s audiobook review team, I borrowed another of her audiobooks via Audible’s Romance Package to get a feel for her writing. As there are three audiobook reviewers on our blog and I was the only one who’d not read her writing before, I wanted to make sure that I could pitch in in the event neither of the other ladies were available – both of whom love Foster’s books. Bear with me for just a little more background, I’m the individual who prepares and publishes the posts on our blog, which means that I get to read everyone’s reviews and because of that, I had actually added Driving Whiskey Wild to my ‘Want to Read’ shelf on Goodreads. Needless to say, when the first audiobook sent to us for review wound up being Driving Whiskey Wild, there was no pitching in for me, I was all over it and Foster and Woodson did not disappoint.

I’m a fan of MC romances, it doesn’t matter if it’s a one-percenter club or just a group of men who look for the camaraderie and sense of brotherhood a motorcycle club often provides, nor does it matter if it’s a dark romance, a romcom, an erotic romance, or a contemporary romance, if it’s well written, I can usually lose myself in an MC romance. In Driving Whiskey Wild, the Dark Knights Motorcycle Club is a brotherhood that supports its members and protects its community. Although nothing illegal occurs in the book, statements are made that suggest that if they were backed into a corner, the club would do what it had to in order to protect their own – especially Bullet Whiskey. Between his upbringing and his time in the service, Bullet has an overdeveloped need to protect others, especially those who matter to him. This sense of duty makes for a rather intense man on the outside, but the more we learn about Bullet, the more we realize that the man also has a sweet side, at least he does for Finlay. Well, when he can get his libido under control he does. I nearly choked on my coffee when the “Take you for a ride on the Bullet Train” line was uttered. As for Finlay, she’s not what one would envision for the rough-around-the-edges Bullet, and yet, she proves to be the perfect women for him, possessing a quiet, inner strength that serves her well when dealing with the prideful man. Witnessing the two conquer each other’s demons and tear down their walls made for quite a journey – one that made me laugh, bite my nails, swoon a bit, and anticipate the happily ever after ending Foster is known for. And Foster did not let me down.

As for the narration, I’m chagrined to admit that when I began listening to Driving Whiskey Wild, I wasn’t sure that I was going to enjoy Paul Woodson’s narration. You see, I had this idea in my mind of what Bullet Whiskey should sound like based on the guy on the book’s cover and at first, Woodson wasn’t meeting my expectation. But as I listened, I soon eschewed my skewed expectation and fell into Woodson’s performance. Not only did he become Bullet Whiskey, but he also became Finlay, as well as the huge cast of characters who are woven into the story – and there are a LOT of them. I thoroughly enjoyed Woodson’s narrative performance and look forward to listening to him in the future, which is likely to be sooner rather than later as I plan to back track and listen to the other two audiobooks in The Whiskeys series. Yep, Foster and Woodson have me hooked on The Whiskeys.
