What
I meant to do in Vegas: Let my hair down for once and celebrate winning a medal
at my first women’s hockey all-stars competition.
What I actually did: Got senior prom drunk and woke up married to Brooklyn’s
star winger, the great Neil Drake.
He’s the heir to a billion dollars, and I barely survived my childhood. Our
friendship is based strictly only on hockey, takeout food and smack talk.
And now holy matrimony. Although we both know it can’t last, especially once
his evil family gets wind of our Vegas shenanigans…
Contains: Meddling teammates, meddling parents, ugly jewelry and a
pretend-kiss that nearly sets the world on fire.

This is the sixth book in the Brooklyn series, and I have to say that this is a
really fun read. It is such a fun premise for a book, and there are plenty of
reasons to laugh out loud at the beginning of the book!
Neil is the black sheep of his very wealthy family, as he is a professional
hockey player. Charli is too – but the women's league means that she still has
to work to pay the bills. No silver spoon for her, she has as little contact
with her family as possible. So one would wonder about them getting hitched,
and that includes them!
It was huge amount of fun watching them realise what they had done, and for
Neil. in particular, there is a belief that this was his drunken self doing
what he had dreamed about from when he first saw Charli. But as they actually
get to spend time together, and in spite of the complications, they become
friends and more.
It was refreshing that Neil was a T1 diabetic and had to deal with the demands
of being a top athlete and the associated social life. His use of the new tech
solution and its habit of sending an alarm at somewhat inconvenient moments was
amusing too.
These two lovely people seem to have found their special person and we have to
only hope that they believe in themselves and each other, as the threats of
divorce lawyers are never far away. Another lovely story in this series.

Oh, how I love the Brooklyn Bruisers! Sarina Bowen does a wonderful job of
combining hockey and love – and the love of hockey. Neil and Charli's story is
no exception.
Neil did not make a good first impression on Charli when he assumed she was a
trainer for the Bruisers and "ordered" her to get him some juice.
Charli – a no nonsense woman with a huge chip on her shoulder – dressed him
down in only a way a female hockey player can – full on goal.
Fast forward a year and Neil and Charli are the best of friends and having fun
at the all-star events in Vegas. After Neil's last (and hopefully final) break
up with his on-again-off-again girlfriend and Charli's MVP medal, they get
drunk celebrating their wins. However, what happens in Vegas does not always
stay in Vegas.
It's only a matter of time before Neil and Charli give into the feelings they
both have been hiding for a while. However, both of families are hounding them
in different ways. The Drake family wants Charli out of Neil's life because
she's a "gold digger" and Charli's family wants to extort money from
her.
Neil's and Charli's story is amazing as the reader watches the slow realization
that love comes when and where you least expect it and it's amazing to have a
partner who accepts you for exactly who you are with no expectations of
changing the core of you.
