“I
know who you are, Michael, because you belong to me. You were born to be mine.”
~ Prince Alexei Vasiliev
Haunted by the death of his parents, Michael Blakeley wants answers. The twenty-six-year-old
martial artist seeks their killer, but he also wants to know why electronics
short out at his touch, and why his libido is a raging fire.
When a group of soldiers calling themselves Guardians rescue him from a back
alley ambush and claim to have the answers he needs, he agrees to go with them.
Especially when they tell him the attackers were vampires. But nothing in this
supernatural underworld is as it seems, and when the silver-eyed commander
cages him instead, Michael's answers slip further away.
Can Michael find safety from the vampire prince who claims him? Can he escape
the dark destiny he discovers is written into his blood? And will he break the
chains of the commander who keeps him captive? The one man he has no desire to
leave?
Dark Flame is the first pulse-pounding book in the Flame Born LGBT urban
fantasy series. If you like enemies-to-lovers, shifters, sexy vampire princes,
and scorching heat, you'll love this smoldering tale of bloodlust and magic.
Dark Flame has a HFN ending and is the first part of an ongoing story
with the same protagonist.
There is content some readers may find distressing. Meant for mature audiences.

I kneel and hang my head and wait. I have to. I want to. There’s an elation in my chest, as though I’m about to meet a secret beloved I’m only now remembering. My attention draws upward, compelled to the stunning creature. I couldn’t look away if my life depended on it, but I avoid meeting his dark gaze.
With unearthly grace, the vampire saunters toward me, his eyes riveted to my face. The closer he comes, the more the battle slips into the background. It could be only the two of us here in the steelworks. Weapons fly around him—bolts and swords whistle through the air, heading for his chest, but stop midflight before they can meet their target and clatter to the concrete. He doesn’t spare them a glance.
The nearer he stalks, the harder my heart pounds. My breath comes in shallow puffs. Cold sweat soaks my T-shirt. My nails puncture the soft flesh of my palms. I feel defenseless.
The prince stands in front of me, close enough to touch, a towering demigod, his immense wings creating a shadowed cavern.
I force my eyes down, fixing them on a patch of crimson blood painted across the concrete. I resist a baffling urge to lean and rest my head against his hip.
Strong, elegant fingers cup my chin to lift my face. I tense, my stomach twisting with panic. I’m certain that once I meet those black eyes, it’s over. His fingers burn hot against my chin. The touch tingles my skin like champagne. I melt into his hand and look up, finding two pools of darkest night. My resistance vanishes.
Master. The word hangs in my mind.
I will never let it leave my lips.

Dark Flame is the debut in the Flame Born series, and I'd do just about
anything to get my paws on the next installment.
Orphaned and abandoned, raised in the foster care system until he was
ultimately adopted, but then his adopted father passed of a heart attack,
Michael is alone in this world. Worse still, for the past three months,
unexplained occurrences have been happening around him. Electronics shorting
out, a dark shadow following him, almost being able to hear this shadow within
his head.
Michael is floundering in confusion, until it all comes to a head, drawing him
in a war between different supernatural factions.
Michael is confused as to what is happening, who he can trust, as he takes the
reader on a journey of discovering not only who he is but what he is.
I'm not going to lie. I still don't have a firm grasp on the world building and
magic system of the Flame, yet neither does Michael have a good grasp. The
reader is to learn alongside our hero.
A mix of supernatural creatures contributed to his DNA, a Whisperer of unknown
origin, Michael is held hostage no matter which faction he chooses to align
himself. Both sides wishing to use him, where it's a struggle for Michael to
not only come to terms with who and what he is, where he may have come from,
but also torn between his heart and head and the call of his kind.
Who can Michael trust when they're all using him?
The pages flew by, engrossed as I learned of this intriguing universe alongside
the narrator. Not only was Michael confused on his lineage but also his
sexuality. Complementary beings, Michael is drawn to Gabriel, in more ways than
one, confused as he has never once had sexual urges for the same sex before.
Layers and layers of intriguing tropes, hooked from page one, where I read the
book in a single sitting. I highly recommend to MM Fantasy fans and I cannot
wait for the next installment.

This is an exciting introduction to a fabulous new fantasy world. Michael has
always assumed he is human. But one terrifying night brings him into a new
world full of supernatural creatures. Caught between a Viking werewolf and a
vampire prince, Michael doesn’t know his true identity, let alone who he can
trust.
I found the world building in this book overwhelming at times. The author draws
from every possible supernatural tradition to create an enormous cast of
characters. The politics, abilities, and powers are almost impossible to
understand. I’m intrigued by the possibilities for this series, but my brain is
still spinning. However, readers join this world alongside Michael, who is just
as confused as we are.
I enjoyed the relationships that Michael begins to form in this first book. His
friendships are intriguing – as is the sense that he can’t really trust his
friendships. I’m still not completely comfortable with Michael’s relationship
with Flanagan. Their encounters raise all sorts of dubious consent red flags
for me and I think I’m even more suspicious of Flanagan than Michael himself
is. Michael’s prince is even more disturbing than his Viking. This is a love
triangle without love and two untrustworthy suitors.
I feel like this series has potential. I’m eager to read the next book but I’m
really needing some clarity if I’m to fully engage with Michael and his
supernatural experiences.

I think I am probably one of a few that didn't like this book. I can't put my
finger on why, I just didn't. I couldn't connect to the characters and it felt
like too much was going on at times. I had to keep re-reading things to see who
was who and what they were doing. It probably didn't help that I just read an
amazing series and was still in awe over that one. I am sure it's a great start
to a new series, it just wasn't for me right now.
I’m a simple northern English lass
with an addiction to writing, as well as all things romance. Also addicted to
cats, cat videos, and anything with, you know, cats in it. And there's
chocolate, and tea, coffee too, and rainy Sundays. Okay, I have many addictions.
But my first love has always been story in all its forms, from movies to books
to anecdotes told over a beer at the local pub. If we're sharing a story, I'm
all ears. And if it's fantasy with sexy heroes and vampires and lots of angsty
luuurve, I'm probably drooling.
Come in, pour yourself a tea, and kick your shoes off. Let me tell you a story.
