She's
not a secret. She's a second chance.
Shay
Six years ago, the good, upstanding men of Stonecut County ran me off. I took a
secret with me. An inconvenient truth they wanted buried.
Actions have consequences. Their perfect golden boy maybe wasn't so perfect
after all.
Then life hands me one too many lemons. I'm forced to go back, and in Stonecut,
nothing ever changes.
Kellum Wall is still golden.
I'm still unwanted.
And falling for his cocksure smile will most certainly ruin my life all over
again.
Kellum
I believe there are still good men left in this world, and I strive to be one.
I was raised to live by a code. God and country. Protect and serve.
I always do the right thing, even when it's hard—and yet, somehow, I've made an
unforgivable mistake.
I want what I lost. The woman, the child, the white picket fence. But it's not
gonna come easy.
Shay's a survivor. She doesn't believe in happily ever after, and earning her
trust might be the hardest thing I've ever done.
She's got my heart in her hands, though, and this time—I'm not letting her slip
through my fingers.
Hitting the Wall is a steamy, small town romance featuring a secret baby
and a second chance at love. It's the first book in the Stonecut County series.

It’s her.
The girl with the auburn hair. From the night at the bonfire.
My heart slams into my ribs, adrenaline surging through my veins. My hand is on the door handle. She’s standing there, skin glistening with sweat, hip cocked, foot turned out, in a pale pink blouse and brown patterned skirt, shading her eyes.
It’s her. There’s no doubt. Those round hips and trim waist. That stubborn chin. I swallow past a lump lodged in my throat, and I get out of the car. I remember my hat a second too late.
What’s she doing back here in Stonecut County? By the side of the road?
I wipe my hands on my thighs. Square my shoulders. The heat hits me like a brick wall, stealing my breath.
I see the moment she recognizes me. Her entire body goes rigid. She grabs the little girl’s upper arm and tugs her close to her side. The action draws my eyes down.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Shay was always the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. When she goes to
stay with her grandpa for a summer, she doesn't realize how much her life is
going to change. Despite knowing that her grandpa loves her, the small town is
a toxic environment for anyone who isn't from the right side of town. When the
city confronts her and her grandpa, she isn't willing to let her grandpa pay
for her mistakes. Shay picks up and leaves without looking back.
Kellum has always been seen as the golden boy around town. He has rose-colored
glasses on for anyone he has known for his whole life, including his own
family. Now, as a deputy on the police force, Kellum is faced with some harsh
realities. Everything isn't so great in his hometown. Not everyone tells the
truth and there is something dark lurking just below the surface.
When Kellum sees Shay again, his past and his present crash violently together.
He sees what he missed out on, and Shay sees that Kellum was just another
victim. The town has a lot to answer for and there will be some hard choices to
make.
This is a good second-chance romance with a lot of angst and drama thrown in.
You'll want to slap Kellum upside the head more than once and you'll want to
yell at everyone that surrounds him. Nobody is what they seem, everyone has a
hidden agenda. Finally, despite how much Shay has grown up, she has to decide
if one truly can't go home again, or if some changes are worth the sacrifice.

I liked this book, but not as much as I hoped I would. I understand the whole
"wrong side of the tracks" romance and all, how it takes a lot to
overcome those kinds of prejudices.
Shay is from the wrong side of the tracks, street smart, and gets caught up in
the fantasy of starting a new life. Unfortunately, the condom broke and now the
boy's (man's) family is there to run her out of town. Being 17, she caves and
goes back to an even more dire situation in South Carolina.
Meanwhile, the man in question, Kellum, oblivious to the drama unfolding around
him, goes on with his life. He marries the "right" woman and tries to
build a life. The only time he stood up for himself was when he divorced his
wife due to her uncontrollable spending.
My thoughts are this: It's a small town. If Kellum's family heard the rumors,
he should have as well. If he didn't, he's not a very good police officer.
There're a few people in that town that aren't in the pocket of the Wall-Price
family that could have spoken out and probably did. Take it from someone who
lives it – there's nothing like a piece of juicy gossip, especially when a cop
is involved.
Am I going to read the second book? Yes. I do want to see how the Wall-Price
family is impacted by the revelations about Kellum's uncle and county sheriff.
