I’m a massive Lily Morton fangirl and I loved every word of this short story collection. It’s a collection of scenes featuring the couples from several of my favourite books. Each extract is prefaced with a little note from the author explaining the context behind it.

As always, the stories contain a wonderful mix of snark, humour, heart – and a few teary moments. I think I love Morton’s writing more with each book, but it was amazing to go back and revisit old friends from books I haven’t read in a while. All the characters in Morton’s books are interlinked and this collection is organised in a way that makes even the most tenuous connections a little more clear.

A word of caution – this collection adds a little something extra to Morton’s previously published books but it really won’t make any sense on its own. New readers need to start at the very beginning of Morton’s backlist with something like Deal Breaker or Oz and read through the author’s books before they can appreciate this collection. The books are all fabulous and this one is a little cherry on top.
