Sydney has a strong will and a fantastic heart. She has dropped everything to be the guardian to her almost teenage niece, Haley. With the loss of family, nothing is every simple or easy. As these two find their new normal, what Sydney isn't expecting is to see the one person she didn't think she'd ever want to see again... Kyle.

Kyle is the playboy of the family when you first meet him in previous books. He's happy with his bachelor status and almost proud of his non-commitment in life. And while he's a bachelor for everything, there's something that he is jealous of when it comes to his siblings. He wants to have the happily ever after.

Kyle knows that he messed up before. When Sydney comes back and is needing someone to lean on, Kyle wants to be the one she turns to. But he also knows that grief and loss can be tricky and doesn't want to push too hard.

Haley is your typical almost teen and when she and Sydney hit a few rough patches, will Kyle stick around to help them through or will it prove to be just a little too much commitment?

These two will have you wanting to cheer them on. You get to see the previous heartbreak, their friendship blossom, and their love rekindle. It's a sweet story that will give you faith in love.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the sixth book in the series, but I must admit my first – do not fear, I will definitely be going back to rectify that, as I loved the inhabitants of Magnolia Sound, and could tell that there were some rich stories told in previous installments.

Kyle is the ultimate player – we find out that this is in no small part because he let his first love, Sydney, go and has not really been interested in settling down ever since. Then it turns out that she is back in town and guardian to her niece, who is newly orphaned. What's more is that he will be working on restoring the house that they are living in.

Sydney has given up her life in Boston to come and parent her teenage niece, Haley, now that her sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car crash on a date night. She is suffering from grief at their loss, sadness for her niece, and for the career and life that she has had to leave behind. But she is devoted to the task and even Kyle turning up on her doorstep and working on the house cannot be a distraction.

As the two of them form some form of tentative friendship, and she learns how to set boundaries for her niece, things start to get both complicated and better. I loved the care with which the author wrote of the heartbreak and grief, of the unexpected events or items which bring on a moment of deep sadness, and the guilt at feeling happy, even if only briefly. It is moving, and deals with difficult issues in a caring and loving way.

As they heal from the past and try and move forward, possibly as a couple, they have to grow together, and include Haley in their new relationship. I definitely recommend this story to you.

At one time, she had been his past, his present, his everything. She was the first beautiful girl he’d ever really and truly loved. And the last.
