Macy is trying to keep her head above water. Now that she's the sole guardian
to her half-sister, Hannah, Macy is trying to make sure that she's setting the
correct boundaries, limits, and giving her sister all of the love she should
have. And even though it's hard to do with a sister who doesn't really want to
listen, Macy knows that she's what's best for her sister.
When Jaxon is caught with yet another girl, his family, his agent, and his team
isn't happy with him. Jaxon has been shaped by a father who only valued
football and essentially shunned and abused his other kids when they wouldn't
fall in line. Knowing that he has to change his ways in order to save his
career and his family from more trouble, Jaxon just has to settle down.
With Macy needing some help with Hannah's sneaky mom coming back in the picture
and threatening to sue for custody, Jaxon needing to seem to settle down, these
two hatch a plan to get married so that they are both helped.
Family drama, teenage drama, manipulation, and love are all present in this
twisted tale. You'll love how protective Jaxon becomes of both Macy and Hannah
and you'll also love how Macy opens her heart even though she knows this might
be a big mistake.
These books are fun, full of love, and only have a little drama, which makes
them quick reads. You'll love the relationship among all of the characters.
Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in the series, and I would recommend that you read them
in order, but this could be read as a standalone too. If you have read the
stories of the Dare and the Prescott families, then you will really enjoy
reconnecting with them and watching the next one fall in love!
Jaxon is still plagued by the abuse he received from his father – a major
league baseball player, but not the footballer his father wanted him to be.
Even now, as a successful adult, his dead father's words still mess with him.
His reaction is to be quick to join in a fight, and to be seen with a constant
succession of women. His team need him to clean up his act, or he may need to
leave Florida or his sport.
Macy is best friends with Jaxon's sister, Bri, and so she spends time with the
family at parties, weddings, etc. A chance conversation with Jaxon, when she is
worried about retaining guardianship of her half-sister, results in them
agreeing to get married to further both their needs. The fun twist in this
story is that they have great chemistry and are prepared to acknowledge that
fact – even if they have never dated and have no desire to do so! So they
choose to marry and be faithful and active in their marriage until such time as
they agree to end it...
I really enjoyed this openness between them, and how they fell into being
together so well. Neither has had an easy upbringing and both are struggling
with events that they are in now – but as a couple they are wonderfully in
tune, and yet in a way, totally oblivious to how special that is. Such a fun
concept and really enjoyable to read.
Another excellent book in the series – and the return of doctors without
borders brother, Braden is going to give the next book another unique and
interesting take. I am already looking forward to it!
