Twist of Fate by Jill Shalvis Blog Tour

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes a new story in her Heartbreaker Bay series…

When the one you want…

Daisy doesn’t believe love is ever-lasting, so it’s ironic as hell that she parlayed a business degree into a wedding planning business. More ironic still is her latest job bringing her back into contact with the man who’d taught her that love can’t last.

Is the one you can’t have…

To say Diego has been taught the hard way to bury emotions is an understatement. But when he’s called home to help the brother he hasn’t seen or spoken to in years, that’s one thing. It’s another entirely to also come face to face with the first woman he ever loved. First and only…

Can love conquer all?

Daisy’s learned to depend only on herself, and Diego is and always has been an island of one. And yet when they’re together, even when they’re bickering, still wary and haunted by memories of what was… it’s magic. The question is, how to find their way back to each other?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

This is a Heartbreaker Bay novella (identified at 8.5) – you can definitely read this without knowing the rest of the series, and if I am honest, I don't think this showcases just how FABULOUS the series is. It is a sweet story, but the other books in the series are exceptional.

In the first instance, our impressions of Diego are really not very good, but as we get to understand just what happened to him, the level of understanding and sympathy definitely increases. The best moment though, is when he finally realises that he did to Daisy just what happened to him, but he never saw it that way. As he grows through this, then he definitely deserves the happiness that the ever loving Daisy might still be prepared to bestow upon him.

An enjoyable read as a short story, and I am hoping that we will see them again in the next Heartbreaker Bay installment, as I think they will fit in really well.

This is a great Saturday afternoon read. Diego and Daisy's story is set in the world of Heartbreaker Bay. The book is a standalone, but it does give you the sense of what the series is.

Diego and Daisy's story is an intricate one, further complicated by the time Diego has been gone from Heartbreaker Bay. Daisy knows why it’s hard for Diego to come back home but what she doesn't expect is Diego's anger towards her.

Diego's feelings for Daisy haven't changed in the years he's been gone, but he knows that making a relationship work will be difficult, but he's willing to put his heart on the line.

I loved this book and can't wait for the next book in the series.

M/F Second Chance Romance

Daisy loves her job. She is good at it and while her boss is sometimes a bear to work with, Daisy knows that she can handle it. While Daisy loves her job, she isn't necessarily someone who believes in forever. Daisy's past experiences have taught her that even if she tries her best, sometimes her best isn't good enough.

Diego is a hard character to get to know. He's so closed off and he is kind of a jerk. It is hard for me to like him, and that makes me want to cheer for Daisy to find someone worthy of her. Diego has some deep issues with his brother and coming home is something he resents. But he's being the dutiful brother and has agreed to be the best man.

While Diego is less than happy at being home, he's blindsided by seeing Daisy sitting chummy with his brother and future brother-in-law. Just another person who has left him in his life, Diego holds a grudge against Daisy.

With the past still eating away at both of them, they'll have to decide if their past can help direct their future. Also, with a meddling friend and brother, they'll have no choice but to face their grudges and hurt.

This is a sweet story with more funny than romance. I do wish that there had been more dialogue about their relationship. But since this is a novella about another series that I have not read, I can understand why their past wasn't discussed more. And while I can appreciate the second-chance romance angle, this almost felt like a second-chance lust-fest. I didn't really see their relationship develop that much.
