Kinky Sprinkles by L.A. Witt

Their biggest challenge is balancing one's vanilla with the other's kink.

Joel has finally walked away from his abusive ex and is ready to meet new people. But that isn’t easy for a guy who’s shy, self-conscious, and struggling with his body image.

Andre has wanted Joel since the first time he laid eyes on him, and finally Joel is single. But Andre is a Dom and a sadist, and Joel is unapologetically vanilla. There’s no happy medium—either Andre reins in the kinky side that took him years to accept, or Joel grits his teeth and subjects himself to kinks that aren’t his thing. No matter who bends, someone’s going to be unhappy.

They agree to walk away, but they keep circling back to each other. Though their kinks might not line up, the chemistry between them sizzles and the emotional connection keeps getting deeper. But none of that will get them anywhere if they can’t find some kind of middle ground in the bedroom.

Andre is an experienced Dom who is looking at his friend in a whole new light. Joel has been someone that Andre has admired since Joel and his old Dom entered the club. Now that Joel has taken stock of his life, gotten rid of his abusive Dom, Andre sees his chance – he wants to have a relationship with Joel.

Joel has lost a lot in his life. When he kicked his abusive Dom to the curb, he was embarrassed and shy to go back to the only friends he had – the ones at the club that he no longer wanted to really be a part of. But his friend, April, pushes him to get back out there – to come back to the community of people who will not judge him.

When Andre and Joel finally figure out that they have a mutual attraction, Joel knows that kink is not something he really wants to explore again – he's had enough to last a life time. But he also knows that he could really have a good, long relationship with Andre. Andre doesn't want to change Joel and understands what Joel needs, but he also can't deny the dominant side of himself either.

The relationship works out somewhat, because both parties are open to allowing each other to have what they need most out of their personal relationship, while seeking out what they may not receive within that relationship. Andre is able to play with others at the club, as long as Joel is aware and there is no sex involved, while Joel is okay with small bits of kink – his kinky sprinkles...

Overall, this was a sweet story where everyone wins.

A very fun sexy novella! At 140 pages that flew by, I really became invested in Andre and Joel!

Joel is just out of an abusive BDSM relationship with an ex-Dom, Rob. He's become a bit of a recluse as Rob really kept him under lock and key, so to speak. Rob made it so Joel had no friends other than the other subs at the club and Rob's own friends. After leaving his abusive ex, Joel decides to take another submissive's invite to the club’s "munch" (a lunch get together). In walks sadist and uber hot Dom, Andre. He's someone Joel has admired from afar all those years, but thought him out of his league. The sparks fly off the pages as Joel learns that Andre had been interested in him for years also! The two have some issues because Joel was only a sub for his ex, he's not really into the whole D/s lifestyle and only did it for Rob. Joel calls himself vanilla with "kinky sprinkles" (yea, I thought that was cute too!) and Andre, well, he is a downright sadist. The two can’t stay away from each other despite the huge differences. Their story is fun and sexy. Enjoyed it completely!

What if the man you can’t stay away from doesn’t share your kink and isn’t able to meet your needs in the playroom? This is the dilemma facing Andre when he finds himself fiercely attracted to Joel, a former sub who has left the lifestyle after a very difficult relationship.

This could be the most realistic BDSM story I can remember reading. More time is spent discussing and attempting to align personal kinks in this story than is spent describing elaborate scenes (though there are a few wonderful scenes – including some mesmerising Shibari).

The conversations about kink and partners and limits and non-monogamy aren’t nearly as monotonous or drama soaked as some I’ve encountered in real life, but the fledgling relationship between two men who are compatible in the bedroom but not in the playroom is a more honest study of the BDSM lifestyle than I’ve read before. For Andre, accepting Joel’s “no longer interested” response to the lifestyle is incredibly difficult. And Joel can’t trust Andre until he fully accepts Joel’s hard limits and stops trying to push him.

While the author gingerly courts the idea of non-monogamy, I felt that her caution was more about a fear of alienating traditional romance readers than something that felt true for either Andre or Joel. I wanted the author to be braver and fully explore the layers of complicated commitment options available within the lifestyle.

This isn’t the sexiest BDSM story I’ve read, but it is one of the most honest. Joel and Andre feel real and I loved the complexity of both men. The chemistry between them is brilliant, the sex is beyond hot, and I enjoyed watching them build a fledgling trust and establish a relationship that works for them both.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn't lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don't tell Lauren. And definitely don't tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut...
