Drantos by Laurann Dohner

For most, a plane crash means the end of life. For Dusti Dawson, it’s just the beginning…

Dusti and her sister Batina survived the crash, thanks to a couple of brothers who are equal parts menacing and muscled. She’d be grateful…if they hadn’t turned out to be delusional kidnappers, who believe Dusti’s grandfather is some monstrous halfbreed creature bent on murder. Turns out Vampires, Lycans, and Gargoyles do exist— and they’ve been crossbreeding to form two hybrid races. Drantos, the man Dusti can’t stop lusting after, is one of the most dangerous of all.

VampLycans Drantos and Kraven were sent to eliminate a threat to their clan. But when that threat turns out to be mostly human women, clueless of their lineage, plans change—especially after Drantos gets a taste of Dusti’s blood. Now, he’ll die to protect her. Even if that means walking away from everything he knows to keep her at his side.

Is her strong desire for Drantos reason enough to endure danger coming from all sides? Or should Dusti cut and run the first chance she gets?

Author Note: VLG stands for Vampires, Lycans, Gargoyles…and breeds in between. Living in Alaska’s harsh, pristine territories, these creatures live and love fiercely. These are their stories.

Angela☆☆☆☆☆
When I first learned that Dohner was writing a new series, I was equal parts excited and annoyed. I was excited because it meant new books with new characters and a new world. I was annoyed because it meant I had to wait on more books from her other series – all of which I read. But as I’m always happy when a new Laurann Dohner book is delivered to my Kindle, I couldn’t wait to read it – even if I had to wait a couple of weeks after its release because of the holidays. Needless to say, I was tickled pink when I was finally able to start it and were it not for that pesky human need for sleep, I would have read Drantos in one sitting.

Although this is a new series and there is some world building to do, the author opts to drop the reader straight into the action as the plane that Dusti and Batina are on is about to crash. As the pilots failed to turn off their mics and the passengers heard the entire dire conversation, the sisters say their final goodbyes as they don’t expect to survive the crash. Before the plane crashes, the two muscle-bound men Dusti had suspected of following them in the airport, force their way into the sisters’ aisle and cover them as they all brace for impact. I have to say that I do believe this is the first time I’ve ever laughed while reading about a plane crash – between the pilots’ mics being left on, Dusti’s concern that she’s about to be molested mid-plane crash, and Bat’s acerbic tongue, I could not control my snickers. As the dust settles, literally, the sisters are now faced with a new set of problems, surviving the Alaska wilderness and determining whether or not they can trust the men who saved their lives. A situation made worse when Dusti begins to question her rescuer’s sanity once he starts talking about vampires, lycans, gargoyles, and hybrids of the breeds –sexy with some screws loose. It’s largely through Drantos’s conversations with Dusti about the different breeds and the truth about her family’s heritage, including her grandfather’s actions in his quest for power, that Dohner builds the VLG world. This made for an interesting way to introduce the reader to the series because some of the information is provided whilst the characters are dealing with the ramifications of the different species’ worlds colliding, as well as while Drantos is trying desperately to convince Dusti that he’s not off his meds (lol). The best part is, this was merely the beginning of Drantos and Dusti’s journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Is it my favorite Dohner book? No, that honor actually goes to Fury. But I loved this book as much as I’ve loved each and every one of her books and it will most definitely be reread. Drantos offers the level of action, romance, and seriously hot sexy fun times that I’ve come to expect from this author, with the added benefit of a new cast of characters I look forward to learning more about. I loved that Dusti didn’t immediately fall into Drantos’s arms and literally fought with him in the beginning. Even when she began to feel attracted to him, she wanted little to nothing to do with him depending upon the situation. Yes, she did fall for him quickly time-wise, but there was a LOT going on during their first few days together and she got to see the “true” Drantos sooner than he would have liked. What kept the story interesting was that the author didn’t stop it at the most convenient place to give the couple their happy ending. No, surviving the plane crash and making it to safety wasn’t the end of the story. The couple had to overcome attacks, abductions, and gaining the clan’s acceptance of Dusti, all while trying to thwart a war and form a mating bond. It’s no wonder I kept returning to my Kindle every chance I got while I was at work – I had to know how their story ended. Although I would have liked a bit more to the ending (and I pretty much say that about every book this author writes because I’m never ready for the story to end), I felt Drantos was a great start to the VLG series and I cannot wait for the release of book two.

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

I'm a full time wife, mother, and author. I've been lucky enough to have spent over two decades with the love of my life and look forward to many, many more years with Mr. Laurann. I'm addicted to iced coffee, the occasional candy bar (or two), and trying to get at least five hours of sleep at night.

I love to write all kinds of stories. I think the best part about writing is the fact that real life is always uncertain, always tossing things at us that we have no control over, but when your write you can make sure there's always a happy ending. I love that about being an author. My favorite part is when I sit down at my computer desk, put on my headphones to listen to loud music to block out everything around me, so I can create worlds in front of me.
