Closet Confession by Kindle Alexander Blog Tour

Dr. Derek Babineaux is intelligent, dedicated, and one of the best ER physicians in the fast-paced world of critical care at Tulane Medical in New Orleans. Always on top of his game, he's thrown off balance when the newest medical staff member finally unleashes his hidden desires.

Justin Delacroix's job at the inner city's busiest hospital might be just what he needs to ease back into civilian life after a long stint in the military. High-performing shifts make working as a trauma nurse at TMC the perfect way to utilize his skills and quick reaction times. There's only one problem, his attraction for one sexy ER doctor is off the charts, but he has his reasons for not returning Dr. Baby's night shift advances. Or maybe he doesn't.

This version includes Bonus Scenes adding an additional ten thousand words to this edition.
Closet Confession was previously released in the Night Shift Anthology.

“I’m starting to think you might have a crush on me, Dr. Baby.” His own crooked smile spread, hoping he was getting past the too quiet remark from earlier. He didn’t want Derek to see him that way

“Then quit dodging me and let’s play doctor,” Derek growled. Justin could feel Derek’s heated gaze on him, but refused to look his way.

“I don’t mix business with pleasure,” Justin playfully fired right back, like he had every night they’d worked together. Besides, Derek had to know he was such a liar. It took everything in him not to jump the smug doctor right there in the hallway and show him exactly how well he played with others.

“I’m not buying it. Besides, if you don’t want to play with me, then why do I always catch you eye-fucking me?” Derek cockily countered. The doctor grabbed his forearm, stopping Justin in his tracks. Derek turned toward him and their eyes locked in an instant. Justin wondered if Derek could hear his heart pounding against his chest as he held his challenging gaze.

This was new to the game.

I'm a big fan of Kindle Alexander and Closet Confession had a few things I really enjoyed. I liked the hospital setting and the twist on hot doctor and the sexy nurse. Derek is a good, fun guy and I really liked him. Derek and Justin are a sweet couple but I felt we didn't really get to know Justin. The story that was told probably would have benefited from being a full length novel rather than a novella. The extra chapters at the end felt like they were tacked on just to add pages and while they were nice, as a whole the book felt disjointed.

I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story and it took me a while to catch up. While I enjoyed the story, I found myself going back and re-reading pages to see if I missed something.

What worked/what didn't: I liked the hospital setting and how everyone worked together. What didn't work for me was the way the two main characters seemed to not to know each other at all and then wham! the closet meeting.

All of this took place in the course of one night shift which made the pacing a little fast for the limited backstory.

Derek is an ER doctor. His life is fast paced. Everyone wants him to find that special man, including his aunt – who is a great character, that fakes illness to try and set him up. Justin is the new ER nurse, he's just out of active duty and trying to fit back into civilian life. Sparks fly between the two.

Let me start off by saying I am a huge Kindle Alexander fan. I jump at the chance to read anything she has written. This is the first title that really didn't do anything for me. I get that it was a novella originally within an anthology but it just felt incomplete and backwards with the added scenes that happened before the original story but were placed after.

This was a super short story, even with the additional chapters at the end. This story had so much potential but fell short for me. I actually liked the additional chapters better than the original story. The whole thing just seemed rushed and thrown together. Of course the sex scenes were hot but that was about it.

Characters: Well written and easy to relate to
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: No
Genre: M/M Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

I am a big fan, and once I had got past the twist was a lot happier than before the reveal. Admittedly I was a bit jetlagged, so didn't catch on fast enough, but it was shocking from Ms. Alexander, as usually hers are such sweet reads. Anyway, once I got with the programme, I relaxed into what was a lovely story. I liked that we got more background at the end. I would have preferred that the story started at the beginning and all the other publication information had been at the end.

A quick, fun and sweet read, and a clever play on words in the title.

I will start by saying Closet Confession is my first book by Kindle Alexander. She has a large fan base within our review group, so I thought it time to pop my cherry, so to speak.

I enjoyed the easy flow of the author’s distinct voice and the writing style. The setting of the scene was very descriptive, allowing the reader to get a feel of the hospital and the narrator.

Noting something I’ve noticed time and time again: the generational divide between the narrators and their elders. Many books have 20somethings to 30somethings with elderly parents. In this situation, Dr. Baby has an aunt who just turned 83… 48 years his elder, his mother’s sister. That’s what I meant by the generational divide: we’re missing an entire generation somewhere.

The elderly aunt was a fun addition to the story. Meddlesome, ornery, yet sweet and loveable. Her need to find her nephew a date was cute.

Within a few pages, we meet Justin, a nurse and our other narrator. His fellow nurses are lusting over the newcomer, and Dr. Baby (Derek) finally pays attention to him.

I realized that when the content of the story started so far within the book that there would be an instant connection between the two as there was no room otherwise to build up to it. But this took instant to a whole new level.

One interaction- and they are locked in a closet together, already so lust-filled with the other’s hotness they can’t help themselves. [Where readers will be confused and turned off, Justin kept speaking/thinking of his partner – his fellow nurses said he had a live in partner… so Derek (a doctor) flirting with him after that known fact is odd. And odder yet is Justin, who is beyond introspective and quiet, going against his own nature and his relationship to flirt back. But not only flirt…]

This all happens so quickly that there is absolutely no buildup. It’s just BAM! Closet.

Now, obviously if you’re reading this review after reading the book, this is explained. But it’s a bit jarring to read when in the ‘closet’ so to speak. I won’t ruin the twist, but by the time I figured it out… shrug.

To be honest, since this is my first KA book, I’m willing to try a full-length novel, as this short story’s pacing was on crack, with so much left out or simply told versus shown, and I’m not sure of the scope of the author’s storytelling abilities from this bit I just read.

Length of book: It started at 14% & ended at 63%. Only 49% of the book was the finished product. Followed by scenes that weren’t included into the overall story. It was just an odd format for me, leaving me feeling disconnected from the story in general. I would have enjoyed the story if it had been told in a linear fashion, as the twist wasn’t that shocking. But being written in the fashion it was, the twist actually put me off from reading it (the narration was unreliable in the beginning because of said twist). If any of that makes any sense.

Just my overall thoughts on Closet Confession.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It's always a surprise to see what's coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.
