Night Fever by Jessica Hawkins Is Now Available & Reviewed

Lola Winters’ heart already belongs to Johnny, but for him, she’d sell the devil her soul. Unfortunately, the devil wants something else.

Beau Olivier is the kind of wealthy that buys anything—even people. When he makes Lola a proposition, she finds herself tempted into a seduction that will have her walking the line between comfort and humiliation, desire and resistance. He would own her—for one night. She would be his—for a price. It was wrong. It was scandalous. It was the opportunity of a lifetime.

Sex, music, neon on the Sunset Strip—right in the middle of it all, he would have her. Come sunrise, he would let her go. At least, that was the plan.

Night Fever is an erotic serial of three books. Reader discretion is advised.

On the sixteenth floor of the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, Beau and Lola exited a gold elevator. They’d been quiet since the car. At the end of a long hallway was a single black-lacquer door with a knob in the center. Her heart beat faster. It’d been nine years since she’d been with a man other than Johnny. And about that long since she’d wanted to.

When they reached the door, Beau pulled out his key and unlocked it with a click.

Lola’s stomach was beyond butterflies—she was sure an entire zoo had been released inside her. She stared at the doorway, which was a threshold, a point of no return, a choice plain and simple. Sweat beaded on her upper lip.

“It’s too late to turn back now,” Beau said.

She didn’t look away. “Not if I give back the money.”

Beau let the door close. “I know what you’re doing.” He walked to her, his steps deliberate. “If I force you into that room, then it isn’t your choice.”

“Nobody forced me here,” she said. “I made every decision. I had to. That doesn’t make my choices right.”

“Lola,” he said. “You don’t have to put on a show. Tonight is about you and me only. Take control of what you want.”

She glanced up at him. “You think you know what I want?”

He moved forward until the wall was at her back. He pushed a hand in the neckline of her dress. “You’re right,” he said. “I have no idea what you want. Since your nipple isn’t hard between my fingers. And you weren’t wet earlier as you sucked me off.”

“Just because you manipulate my body’s reaction,” her voice wavered, “doesn’t mean I want this. You can’t control my mind or my heart no matter what you say.”

His hand stilled. The muscles in his jaw flexed. “You’re so fucking concerned about your heart? Keep it. I’ll use your body. I won’t be gentle. And when I’m finished, you can have it back.”

He could take what he wanted. It wouldn’t mean anything to her. It shouldn’t. But his words were even more erotic than his touch. Her legs trembled from them, threatening to give out.

Lola tried to push him off, but he grabbed her wrist with his free hand and pinned it above her head. “This is what you want, isn’t it?” he asked. “For me to take your choice away? Then no one will have to know that you want this just as badly as I do. That you wanted it the night we met.”

She shook her head rapidly. His nearness smothered whatever sense she had left.

“Let me help you out,” he said when she didn’t speak. “You say, ‘Yes, Beau.’ Then I open the hotel room door. And every time I tell you what to do, you say…”

She fixated on his bowtie, breathing hard.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. Can you speak up?” he asked.

She looked up at the sharpness of his tone. “Yes. Yes, Beau.”

What is one night with a stranger worth?

Hey Joe's is an LA landmark, a staple on the Sunset Strip, well it used to be anyway. Hey Joe's is going under, but it still has those customers and employees that believe in what it used to be. Knowing it will take some work and someone that appreciates its history to get it back to that point. Johnny and Lola believe. Believe that if the right people own it, it can be saved. Johnny and Lola have been managing a relationship and Hey Joe's together for years.

Beau Olivier is not the typical customer at Hey Joe's. He's more upscale than the bar is. After meeting a potential investor he decides to stick around just to talk to Lola more. When Beau offers Johnny enough money to buy the bar and make his dreams come true, will it change everything? Is it worth the risk? Will anyone be the same when the sun rises?

I lost myself in Night Fever, but think I am rooting for the wrong man, I was team Beau throughout this book! Johnny's action proved the type of man he is. Not saying what Beau did was honorable but at least he laid it out there. I want to say so much about the relationships but I can't without spoilers, but I will say this is a good, quick read. Definitely worth a try!

I can't wait for Book 2!

At the end of the book, I just wanted the next one to be available already. Inevitably memories of the film Indecent Proposal came to mind at the beginning – but actually this is already much deeper and interesting. The insight into both characters is fascinating, and the chemistry is incredible. I found myself really engaged with the characters and the scenario, and really just want to know what happens next.

Good news is that the serialisation is only over a month, so I will not have too long to wait!

I almost stopped reading this book because I was kind of bored and it reminded me of the movie Indecent Proposal. I am glad I didn’t. The chemistry between Beau and Lola is undeniable. Lola keeps saying how much she loves Johnny and how much he has done for her, blah, blah, blah. However, it just seemed like she kept saying that to convince herself. Johnny’s feelings seem to be hot and cold depending on the situation in the book so it is hard to get a connection with him. I don’t want to give away what happens but it didn’t turn out like I expected and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Characters: The characters were well written and believable.
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

Our couple, Lola and Jason, receive an indecent proposal style offer from Beau, a patron of the bar they work at – $500,000 for one night with Lola. The cash will make Jason's dream of owning the bar a reality.

The author does a great job taking time exploring the issues surrounding the proposal and looking at it from all angles. I was really sucked into the story and I found myself wondering what I would do. I can't wait for the next instalment.
