If you haven't read Fate's Demand, please do not read this book yet. You will miss the first meeting between Rett and Emma. And what a meeting it was.

This book takes us to the heart of New Orleans, where Rett is the king and he wants Emma to be his queen. There are secrets, lies, and plenty of people you can't and should not trust. And don't forget the ghost and spirits talking to the housekeeper.

This one is filled with mystery, some steam, and a load of wanting. The want is what you as the reader will be left with when you reach the end because that ending will leave you wondering, what just happened?

This is a typical Aleatha Romig story, she will draw you in and keep you there and have you so into the story that you don't realize that it is over until the end. This is what makes it an AWW... kinda story.

So make sure to read the novella first and then jump right in and enjoy the ride that is the first book of Devil's Duet. Looking forward to book two.

Emma and Rett actually meet in a novella set as this first book’s beginning. You can read that one first to see how their first meeting actually goes. While it's very short, it does give a little insight in to each character.

Emma is someone who wants to make it. She wants to have what she does from doing her best. When she meets Rett, he sweeps in, makes her somewhat confused with his prowess and pull. Emma's past is somewhat tragic and as she learns more and more about her past, she's more and more confused.

Rett is king in New Orleans. He knows what he wants, knows how to get it, and isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty to get it. Seeing Emma, he knows he's going to win this one. With mystery surrounding him, people out to take his place, and Emma in the dark about so much of her life, Rett needs to play his hand early.

Romig leaves you, as the reader, on the hook with more questions than answers. I can't wait for the conclusion of this book!

This was a perfect mix of drama and romance with dark-ish moments, all within a mafia-type story. As we learn about the characters, questions come up. As can be expected from Aleatha Romig, as soon as you feel confident that you know what's going on, everything is flipped, and you realize you know nothing!
