The Undercover Cowboy by Lori Wilde

If you love Jennifer Ryan or Maisey Yates, you won’t want to miss this Twilight, Texas novella from Lori Wilde!

Allie Grainger appreciated eye candy as much as the next gal, but she never expected to be rescued by it! On her way to a job interview, she was nearly trampled by a small herd of Texas Longhorns during Twilight’s Wild West Cattle Drive. Luckily for her, a shirtless cowboy actually swept her off her feet and onto the sidewalk. Perhaps she should walk and text more often.

But Kyle Richmond was no “mere” cowboy. Sent by the FBI to uncover an art theft ring, he was in Twilight, getting leads on a series of robberies that went from one end of the country to the other. Soon his clues lead him right in the direction of tempting, irresistible Allie. How can so much trouble be tied up in such a delectable package? And what will happen when Allie discovers the truth about this undercover cowboy?

Allie is looking to jump into the world of art. She knows that she does not want to move back home with her parents, but also knows that it will become a reality if she can't land a second job. However, while walking to her interview, she's almost run over by runaway steer.

Kade is undercover as a play actor in the city and when he sees that Allie is in trouble, despite the fact he's supposed to be keeping himself out of the spotlight, he rushes to rescue her. When he sees her coming out of his targeted area, he's even more intrigued.

What follows is a quick relationship, mystery, and wrap up. This was a fast read and I quite enjoyed it. There was very little buildup in the relationship, but it didn't deter from the story at all. I wish that it had been a little more elaborate, but given the short length of the book, it was well done.

This is a novella set in the Twilight, Texas series – and fans will enjoy the quick-paced and romantic short story.

For a short book, this manages to pack quite a punch with a dastardly art criminal gang targeting Twilight's Fourth of July Pop Up Exhibition, as well as a rather sweet and fun romance.

Kade has some serious ethical issues to contend with when he chooses to spend time with Allie, who has just got a job at the exhibition. Especially the issue of wanting to sleep with her – and given how much he likes her, how to explain how he has broken her trust. Luckily it doesn't stop him becoming involved, and we get the ending we desired – but perhaps more because Allie has a positive response to everything when it all comes out. And whilst that is her somewhat fatalistic attitude in the beginning, she does develop a more healthy approach to life by the end.

A romantic and entertaining read for an afternoon and evening.

Kade aka Rick is working undercover trying to find the person responsible for a recent string of art thefts. Allie is looking for a second job so she will not have to move back to Dallas and admit defeat.

Their meet-cute is one of a kind and it totally works for them. Rick and Allie strike up a friendship and there is a lot of flirting going on. Kade knows that it goes against everything he's been taught during his training as a police officer. Allie is working at the prime suspect at the pop-up art gallery and having a relationship with her is off limits. Yet he can't stay away.

What will happen when the truth comes out? That is the $64,000 question.

This is a good afternoon read and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
