Fated Hearts by Garrett Leigh Blog Tour

He’s not a wolf.

Devastated by the death of his best friend, Zio is a soldier with one thing on his mind: revenge. Consumed by a conflict that’s raged as long as he’s been alive, he’s had little time or inclination to learn the legends of the shifter world he was raised in.

And he certainly doesn’t have time to deal with a shifter of a different kind, even if it’s for the good of the war effort. For the good of his pack. The fact that he’s already crossed paths with the new face in his unit is almost irrelevant.

Almost.

Do no harm. Give life not death: it’s the oath Devan was reborn to live by, so when he’s sent abroad to embed with a wolf pack as their resident healer, he doesn’t hesitate. In the supernatural world, some bonds are instant—soldiers become brothers, pack become family. But others run deeper and before long, Devan’s at the mercy of instincts he can’t control.

Zio’s inner wolf is desperate to be with Devan, while Devan struggles to keep the pack safe. But as the war escalates, and new love is tainted by anguish and pain, the battles within might prove the toughest of them all.

I won’t let him die.

It's a war-torn world between the shifters/weres/vampires, and the humans turn a blind eye as long as they aren't involved in the fallout. There is peace between most factions, with the exception of the northern and southern wolf sectors – this peace is maintained by not taking sides as those two factions continuously duke it out amongst themselves.

The northern faction just lost their healer, a tactical maneuver from the south. Maintaining their pact, Devan is sent to become their new healer, as that is what he was trained to do. Think first, heal those wounded though his own natural affinity with the magic he creates and in the world around him, as well as give another perspective than those who are always battling can give. Wise. Compassionate. Empathetic. Firm, almost to alpha degrees.

Zio is a young wolf, not born that way, nor changed when he mated with another. An accident as an infant, where looming death was intercepted by his alpha. His personality is brazen, a weapon without a safety on the trigger. He's aggressive, grieving over Emma, the healer they lost.

A chance encounter in a club adds loads of angst, the push-pull of frustration and animosity, almost to love-hate levels. Forbidden romance is thrown into the midst as the war wages on, drawing political ramifications to the connection Zio and Devan feel for once another.

Read in a single sitting, I couldn't get enough of Fated Hearts, having to know what happened next. Even after I read The End, I wanted to get my hands on more in the series ASAP. There was a perfect balance, a blending of personalities, between Zio and Devan, complementing one another, lending an air of hurt-comfort to the other delicious dynamics of their relationship.

What I enjoyed the most, and it actually did my head in a bit, I saw Devan as a more submissive character – maybe the healer aspects of his personality. With Zio being the young pup who demanded to be in control. But that is not how it played out, and I was pleased by this. Devan is older, more worldly, and this helps Zio mature in the short while they're in each other's presence. The fact that the animal Devan shifts into sparks terror in the wolves, when he's a gentle sort (when not in his animal form) also amused me, because of this dynamic.

I highly recommend to those who are fans of the author and shifter romances, and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

Zio and Devan were steaming hot from the get go. LUST, LUST, LUST. While the world building was good in this book, I wanted more Zio and Devan. I wanted less pack BS and more Zio and Devan. See a theme here? This book was good, and any fan of the author will love it. I love paranormal books and when two main characters are total opposites, I love it even more. Highly recommend this book.

Fated Hearts is set in the world of shifters and as a reader, it isn’t a world I enter often. But once I started reading Fated Hearts I didn’t want to stop. Zio is a young wolf and a soldier, fighting a war that has been ranging for many years. Devan, a healer and a shifter, joins Zio’s clan when their own healer is killed.

The connection between Zio and Devan is so strong right from their very first meeting and the desire and chemistry between them was captivating. Zio and Devan are dealing with new and strong emotions swirling around them in the midst of war. It seems that there are more important things than their overwhelming need to be together but staying away from each other just isn’t possible.

The danger and violence of the war Zio and his clan are fighting had me feeling like I was only a page away from something terrible happening. It kept me on the edge of my seat and there were times the action had my heart racing.

If like me, you don’t often read shifter stories I highly recommend giving Fated Hearts a go. It is a fabulous story that will suck you right in and I honestly loved it. Fated Hearts is the first book in the Shadow Bound series and I hope the author doesn’t keep us waiting long for the next one. There are clearly many more stories to be told about Zio’s clan and I am looking forward to reading them all.
