The Other Book by Roe Horvat Blog Tour

It was supposed to be just sex... Famous last words.

Tyler doesn't overthink pleasure and avoids complications. He knows it might be stupid to get involved with his closeted boss, but the temptation is too great. At first, the cold and beautiful Joel Sandstrom seems to loathe Tyler's guts.

Except one late night at the office, his reasons become clear... and his control breaks.

Every time they touch, Joel's stony face comes alive, harsh lines smooth out, and for a minute, he looks serene. Happy, even. Just sex – dirty, intense, spectacular sex.

During their covert encounters, Tyler discovers the power he has over the lonesome man, and it's a heady feeling. What if he could set Joel free and give him peace of mind? When Tyler realizes how much Joel needs him, he doesn't regret breaking his own rules.

Gay erotic romance. Contains explicit scenes and sexual interactions between more than two partners. For adult readers only.

This book is right up my alley. Why, you ask? Because of all the hot sex! Holy crap on a cracker. There was a lot of sex. I love these types of books because to me, they are mini vacations to a fantasy island where anything can happen. Does this stuff happen in real life? Maybe, but not to me. LOL. There are certain times when I read books I don't want a deep story or deep characters, I just want hotness and this book delivers the hotness. Will it be everyone's cup of tea? Probably not, but I will be the first to say that when I read reviews and someone says there is tons of sexy time, it is an add to my to-be-read pile!

This is a quick read with quite a sweet story – but at its heart is 90% sexy action. I am not criticising, just be aware that this is not suitable to read anywhere but in private. It is most definitely erotic, if not downright pornographic, and highly readable!

I felt that we get some insight into Tyler, partly as we see him interact with his best friend/ex and his new boyfriend. But Joel is really a mystery, other than his issues with his father. I wanted to know more, even about the business, especially given that Tyler seems to have been responsible for some of his success.

If you are need of heating up (I write this as the polar vortex hits Northern USA), this would certainly do the job!

Roe Horvat is a new-to-me author.

The Other Book was a super quick novella, which I read in an hour or two this afternoon. Light, even with darker emotions of grief due to the abundant erotic content.

Joel is an in-the-closet boss, who has to keep a firm grip on his emotions to control the lust he feels for a freelancer at his company, because his dying, bigoted father affects his bottom line. Freelancer Tyler is out and proud, living his life by his own terms, with a natural authority that draws Joel like a moth to flame.

I enjoyed the start of the novella, quickly engaged and wishing to know what happened next, especially with how Joel and Tyler interacted at the start. However, no matter the darker emotional content leveled at me via the author, it was dramatically lessened by how the few pages of character building content was interspersed with nothing but redundant between-the-sheets action, with a gratuitous ménage scene tossed into the mix for titillation factor.

If you're looking for an erotic novella, The Other Book will surely fit the bill – 90% between the sheets action, 10% content. There was definitely sex and more sex, but for me, the much-needed tension and connection kept me from calling this book smoking hot, scorching, or filthy. Maybe I just read too much, so all these scenes just meld into sameness after a while.

Definitely not my cup of tea, because I need a bit more depth and true steam, so I'm on the fence about trying another book by this author. However, I do recommend to readers who are looking for an erotic MM Romance novella, since what titillates us is as individual as what we enjoy in a book.

Tyler is a successful director who is amazing at his job. While he loves working freelance, he is not super thrilled to be working for the man who never smiles. Despite loving his job but not his boss, Tyler knows that he's missing something in his life. Tyler also has great friends – he is friends with an ex-lover who now is in a committed relationship, but that doesn't mean that they don't let Tyler come and play with them too.

Joel is a serious person. He has a business to run and despite his personal life, he knows that Tyler is amazing at his job. When Joel's personal life becomes too much, he turns to the one person he shouldn't.

This is a story of lust, lovers, friendship, and ultimately, love. While this book is teeming with steamy scenes and a lot of sex, the character development is lacking. You get a glimpse into Joel's life, but that is not really to develop Joel, only to further the story of why Joel is closeted. It would have been nice to see more of the development of the characters rather than just all of their lustful encounters. However, if you're looking for a short, steamy read, this is your book.

So there’s romance. There’s erotic romance and then there is erotica. For me, there were moments that this book pushed past erotica into smutty porn territory. Which isn’t a bad thing – it just wasn’t what I was expecting. And I probably wouldn’t have chosen to read it on a crowded train if I’d realised. But I love a little smut and once I’d read the rather foreboding disclaimer at the start, I had to finish the story.

There is a little bit of story mixed into the smut. Joel is Tyler’s sorta boss and he’s all conflicted and closeted at the start. Many pages of gratuitous and inventive sex later and Joel has worked through many of his issues.

So, this is definitely sexy and steamy. I think the sex is better written than the attempts at storyline and character development. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for careful characterisation or complex plot structures, but I can promise that it will get readers more than a little bit hot and bothered.
