Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis

If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

This is the seventh book in the series and is just as fabulous as all the others... perhaps even better! I love that within minutes of picking up the book, I am back there, amongst the gang, and remember all the characters, the crazy and the lovely. Such is the level of detail that I am really revisiting friend after a gap, rather than picking up a book!

Caleb and Sadie get a really lovely, perfect-for-them story. Their interest in each other has been under the radar for a while, but thanks to a stray dog in a storm, it is all set to change. The joint dog ownership is an inspired touch, to force them to acknowledge each other – but most important of all is that Sadie, in getting to know more about him, has to change her view of him. She has a very low opinion of herself, but has put Caleb, aka Suits, on a pedestal, due to his brains and financial success. However, she finds out that her assumptions of his life were wrong, and she has to review her ideas.

We get to catch up with the rest of the gang, and enjoy all the ongoing relationships too, which was a bonus. As always, the book, though full of pages, did not take me long to ingest, as the writing style is so smooth that the pages almost turn themselves. Another great read, thank you, Jill Shalvis.

I loved this book. They way the characters interact with each other, especially over co-owning a dog. It makes both Caleb and Sadie take long hard looks at themselves and what is important in life.

The frenemies-to-lovers was written well, with just enough snark and smoldering kisses.
