Bishop by Sawyer Bennett

Meet the Arizona Vengeance, hockey’s hottest new team. They’re burning up the ice—until a one-night-stand with the coach’s daughter freezes one player in his skates.

Bishop Scott, co-captain. Not too shabby, huh? It’s all part of my fresh start with the NHL’s latest expansion team, and that means new teammates, a new coach, a new city, and a big new contract. Basically, I cannot f***ing wait to show my old squad what they’re missing.

But first, I decide to check out the town before the grind begins. Turns out Arizona chicks are totally smokin’, and I’m fortunate enough to meet one who’s looking for the same thing I am: a night of anonymous, unforgettable, no-strings-attached sex.

Fast forward to the Vengeance arena. It’s the last place I expect to see her again—let alone in her own office. Then bells go off and I finally realize who this girl is: Brooke Perron. My new coach’s daughter. All of a sudden, we’re picking up right where we left off, which means our hands are all over each other. That’s when her dad—my boss—walks in. And before I can get a word out, Brooke’s introducing me as her fiancé.

Sure, she just saved my ass. So why do I get the feeling Brooke’s going to turn my world upside down? Maybe it’s because this fake relationship feels way too real...

This was a really fun read. To cover for a misjudged hook-up with her father’s new star player, Brooke lies her way right into a fake engagement. The premise is a little bit farcical and it isn’t entirely original, but the story is well written and I really enjoyed the characters.

Bishop is a NHL veteran – and he’s a bit of a player. The feelings he has for Brooke confuse him and the fake engagement sends him into a tailspin. I love that he’s pretty soft under his alpha exterior and I love that he becomes more likeable as he spends more time with Brooke. Brooke becomes more interesting as the story progresses. She is good fun and she’s got grit. I like the friendship that grounds the relationship between her and Bishop.

This is yet another hockey romance full of slut shaming and clearly delineated good girls/bad girls/crazy girls. It’s not a sisterhood affirming read but I enjoyed the story and I liked both Brooke and Bishop.

For fans of hockey and girls that do anything for their family, this book is for you.

Brooke is the new coach's daughter and Bishop is one of the hotshot players for the expansion team – the Arizona Vengeance. After meeting in a bar, Brooke and Bishop hook-up, going their separate ways the next morning. Each not knowing that their lives are about to get a little more complicated.

When Bishop finds Brooke at the corporate offices, he can't believe his luck. Wanting to pick up where they left off, Bishop kisses her like he means it. And then the Coach walks in....

Fearing that her father will treat Bishop horribly, she makes up a story on the spot that they are engaged. Bishop goes along with the story and soon finds himself enmeshed in a story that has taken on a life of its own.

Pretending to be in a relationship is harder than it looks and before long, both Brooke and Bishop are in a real relationship, only they are unsure how to come clean with her father. Scandal ensues when a former co-worker of Brooke's comes to visit in Arizona and Bishop steps up for Brooke like no one else has before.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters are well written and I can't wait to learn more about the Vengeance organization and players.

This is the first book in a new series of hockey hotshots – and gives us some links to the Cold Fury days too, which is fun. As a big fan of sports romance, and Sawyer Bennett's style, I am delighted at this new series!

The story of a mistaken identity hook-up pre-season is not entirely unique, but Brooke's solution when caught by her coach father is to say that they are engaged – something which shocks her nearly as much as it does Bishop! But nonetheless, in the interests of a successful start to his time with the team, and because for some reason one night with her was not enough, he plays along.

There are some great comedic moments thanks to this crazy ruse that neither have any experience in pulling off, but luckily, they are so happy playing out the fantasy that it is not a hardship. I love Brooke's father's approach to the situation, and he comes out of the whole story very well – so I hope that he is on the list of people who will get a chance of new love too. There are plenty of other candidates who clearly need the Bennett treatment, but Bishop was the perfect start for the series.

Lighthearted, goodly amount of hockey, and engaging characters, this is a promising start to a new series of entertaining novels.

I was so excited to see that Sawyer Bennett was releasing a new hockey series and I’m equally as excited to say it’s awesome! It’s a plotline that’s quite unique and I think that makes the story all that much more enjoyable.

Bishop is a hockey player who has recently been traded to a brand new hockey team. The day before his first day meeting everyone from his new team, Bishop winds up having a one-night stand with a woman, Brooke. When showing up the next day to his new team offices, the first person he runs into is Brooke and Bishop doesn’t even care why she’s there, he’s just happy to pick right back up where they left off… only they’re interrupted. By her father, the coach of the team. In a panic, Brooke proclaims that she and Bishop are engaged and have known each other a while. Bishop begrudgingly goes along with the plan but only if Brooke agrees to continue sleeping with him…

I think my only complaint about this book is that Bishop is a bit demanding about the fact that he and Brooke will continue sleeping together through their little agreement; however, Brooke doesn’t put up much of a fight (like at all), so it’s not as bad as it could have been. Bishop is kind of an a$$ some of the time but he and Brooke are just so perfect together that he grows on you. I’m already obsessed with the supporting characters in this book and can’t wait to see whose story we’ll get next!
